Mullet my boys all read the gtown article on that yale site and when we hung out tonight, 75% of us had no issue popping collars (the other 25% were worried about that whole...gay thing). Panties dropped for 50% of us, 100% of the collar poppers. My hot expensive girl dropped because she knows the collar means i can buy her pretty shiny things. I just wanted to let you know. I think you should pop your collar and wear a tight burberry polo. -Rudey --Good deal |
Is this an example of the popped collar?
A scan from Details magazine...

Put me down as anti-popped, sorry everyone :( I just don't like it :p
People get beat up for wearing stuff like that.....heh |
p. diddy is sporting a popped collar (granted it's a jacket collar) on TRL today
|
I saw an older woman (75+) in Ann Taylor yesterday with a popped collar.
It wasn't funny. Speaking of shirts...Rudey. My new boss wears Polo. Would it be wrong for me to wear something better? |
What's wrong with Polo?
I am so out of the loop. :( |
So what exactly would be the proper polo shirt to where, and more specifically, to pop the collar of?

Help me I love preppy boys! |
The only thing about Lacoste is, their sleeves are slightly shorter than Polo brand sleeves. Don't know why they would skimp there, but if you have long or a more muscular arms, it might matter to you. At least, it matters to my son.

Now the only thing about Lacoste that bothers me is that it's French. Sometimes I just get the urge to burn all of mine. -Rudey --I'm so ashamed that I buy French |
I have a black Lilly Pulitzer one with the hot pink palm tree. People ask me all the time what the palm tree is.

Lilly Pulitzer has all kinds of pink and green going on!! I want this dress.. ADORABLE! A girl in one of my classes had a pink and green Lilly polo. So cute! :D /hijack Back to the popped collar.. I think it only looks good on some people. There are far too many people on my campus that it pop their collars, but it just looks silly on them. |
PlymouthDZ, there was a girl wearing that exact dress two weekends ago on the sunset dinner cruise we went on in Charleston...it was sooo cute! THe thing is that she was wearing it as a prom dress (which we didn't think was too cute!). But I do love that dress!

And, I would like to say I've outdone all of you, b/c today as I was driving on campus I saw a dude rocking THREE layered polos. Not one or two....Three. White, black, and neon green. The Solara almost went on a sidewalk rampage to take him out. |

I don't expect to see any "popped" collars though! Y'all KNOW how slow "SOME" of us are here in the South!!!;) ....I just don't think it's going to fly...yet! |
Lacoste is WONDERFUL - they make such cute, classic little things for girls. Think of Gwyneth's dresses in "The Royal Tenenbaums" - so retro, they're cool!

Yeah, those dresses. And no, you can't wear them ALL THE TIME, but once in awhile, it can be just adorable - perfect for a kitschy date to the zoo or a county fair (do county fairs still exist - I've never actually been to one).

I'm poppin' right now. I had to wash and starch the collar a few times, but it's great.
I did see one sorry joker wearing two tight IZOD ones today. Blue and white. Sometimes people try so so very hard. |
i've been popping since '01 - it probably makes me a tool, but...
i don't so much do it to look cool or anything or b/c any girls are going to like it...it actually just feels cool so i don't care much if it looks cool...i'm too self-involved to care if other people think it looks cool ;) i like it...i pop, i wear aviators, and i listen to 80s revival music (Faint, Bravery, Franz, Futureheads) http://www.phatpimpclothing.com/hi/p...llarpoppin.jpg |
Popl it and don't stop it.
|
Definitely popped is the way to go... some brands are better for it than others though. I find that my Burberry and Lacoste polos are too soft to properly hold a pop. Vineyard Vines and Polo work pretty well though, and I actually prefer the fit of them (yes the CHEAPER polos) over my more expensive ones.
Nothing makes me happier than wearing a white A-line skirt, a nice polo with the collar up, Rainbows, and some oversized white sunglasses. That's KY preppy for you. :D |
I pop, but I'm into the whole "half popped" look. Basically pull on the shirt and however the collar falls, leave it be.
UKTriDelt...you miss the point. Popping the collar is only effective if the shirt is expensive. Interestingly enough the whole point of popping the collar at a very subconscious level is the idea of conspicuous consumption. Wearing an expensive polo disheveled, or destroyed jeans is a sign of wealth. Essentially, you have enough money to buy jeans that a poorer person would have thrown out long ago b/c they were full of holes or faded or whatever, or you have enough money to spend a lot of money on a designer polo but wear it in a manner that isn't proper...b/c face it, if it ruins the shirt you can always go buy another one. Also popping the collar draws attention to you since it's out of the ordinary, so people can see you spent a lot of money on your shirt if it has a crocodile or tiger or penguin or polo pony on it. If you're popping a collar on a cheap non-logo-ized shirt, what youre saying is that you can't afford the high quality goods, but want to pretend that you are well off. |
