LuAnn Rhodes
First, I just want everyone to know that our sister, Luann Rhodes (Alpha Mu - Penn State), is very sick and in the hospital. She has been in since Friday at Dekalb Medical Center but she is not up to visitors. Please remember her in your thoughts and drop her a card to wish her well. Her mom and sister are with her.
If you PM me, I will give you her home address. |
Dear sisters,
I am sad to say that Luann Rhodes lost her battle with cancer last night around midnight. She had slipped into a coma and then entered Chapter Grand. She had lung cancer which had spread and then her condition deteriated quickly in the hospital these last couple of weeks. I have information that the Atlanta Panhellenic President through the AGD Atlanta Alumnae Chapter President passed on to me. There will be a memorial here in Georgia, but the date is unknown. The funeral will be in the Mechanicsville PA area. |
Hey ladies,
A gentleman friend of mine named Nathan was just diagnosed with Hodginks Lymphoma... please pray that he stays strong ( I know he will, he is a terrific guy!) as he goes through a few surgeries and chemo for a few months. They believe they caught it early and it is treatable, but I hate it that he is going through all of this. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a great guy! Thanks! |
Last night, after The Living Circle, I checked my home phone voice mail messages to find out that my mother had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday. Her friend who had called me left the number to the hospital and it was too late to call by the time we were finished (especially with the time difference). I didn't sleep a wink last night as I worried. She has emphysema and is on oxygen and heart medications as a result. I called my mom from the train station this morning to find that the blood levels of one of her medications had gotten too high which caused her heart to go into fibrillation. Her neighbor called 911 and they got things under control. Thankfully, my brother was visiting from Arkansas and I'm so relieved that he was since nobody knew how to reach me except my mother, who had the information on her email, which she couldn't access while in the hospital! She was discharged this morning and I've talked to her several times today, and she sounds very tired and a little disoriented (when I told her I was at the train station, she wanted to know why, not remembering that I was in Chicago). She will start getting home health services tomorrow, thanks to my brother's diligence (it helps that he's a CEO of the hospital and made a point to give his card to the discharge planner). Her health has been very shaky since October so I am asking my sisters to keep her in their prayers. She is the only close family that I have in Michigan, she is my best friend and my emotional backbone. She has always been "The Wind Beneath My Wings" and I don't know what I'll do when she's gone.

Dee, so happy that your mom is better. Wed. morning I found out that my sis-in-law was taken to the hospital due to high blood pressure problems Monday. She spent 2 days in the hospital. I haven't talked with her yet cause we keep missing each other.
Tuesday was their anniversary. They were planning a night out in Atlanta. Hopefully, they can do that soon. |
Frances Hammond Funderburk
I received an email that Frances. They took her to South Georgia Medical Center Sunday night. The doctors have been running tests and we may know more by tonight. They are preparing to have caregivers come to the house once she
is released from the hospital. > She is not receiving visitors at the moment, but pm me if you want her address. I know cards and prayers are welcomed. As soon soon as I know something, I will let you all know. Frances was PDC when Gamma Tau was chartered, I believe. Lynn |
For all of our 'bama sisters, especially at USA (University of South Alabama) in Mobile, and sisters living in Mississippi, New Orleans or Pensacola, that Ivan doesn't do too much damage to them, their families or their homes.

Great news...sad news..
Update on Frances Funderburk...Frances was released from the hospital and is now home. She is definitely on the road to recovery. One of the first things she asked was "how was recruitment?". Frances was extremely touched by all the cards she received. She just could not believe it!
Sad news...found out tonight that Nancy Tuneski, PDA Prov 5, has had her cancer return. I think Sherry Cox said it was in both lungs. Nancy had previously succeeded in conquering breast cancer so let's pray she will win her new battle. If you would like Nancy's address, please pm me. Will miss Sherry Cox who is moving soon to Destin Fl. I'm saying a prayer that her house and beach condo don't get damaged...we want to have an Atlanta Alumnae meeting there, lol. Lynn |
