Ok, Ok, I'll admit "Creep" was a bad choice of words, but sheesh, give me a break.

Ok, seriously, i'm sick of this damn ANWAR Red Herring that's being thrown around.
Developing ANWAR as an oil source isn't the destructive and horrible thing you people make it out to be. How many of y'all that are so opposed to the development actually have any emotional or physical attachment to the area? How many of y'all plan to visit it? How many of y'all that are opposed to it have spent more than 7 days continuously in a National Park or Forest in the past 5 years? Are you seeing what i'm getting at? Only 1.5 million acres of the 17.5 million acres in ANWAR is being considered for development. That's only 8% of the land. When you take into account the growth of jobs, the economic impact and the reduction of our foriegn dependence on oil that this will have, it's a freakin no-brainer. Oh, it's going to affect the animals? According the the Department of the Interior the population of the Central Arctic Caribou Herd at Prudhoe Bay(a similar site already under development) has INCREASED during the last 20 years of production from 3,000 to over 20,000. Seeing as how only 8% of ANWAR will be drilled, i don't see that being an issue on the remaining 17.5 mill acres. http://www.absc.usgs.gov/1002/section4part1.htm In closing, i was a Parks and Rec major at A&M. That's what my degree is in. If you want to know what i think our greatest enviornmental issue is, it's the commercializing of our National Parks. In my opinion, if you have such a hard-on to see the Grand Canyon, you should be expected to put forth the effort to hike, bike, or horseback in. All the man-made structures in these parks should be eliminated and they should be allowed to return to their primitive states. ANWAR drilling could benefit the entire country. Building roads, concession stands, restrooms, cement paths through Yosemite so that the weekend tourist can drive through and not have to get out of his car defeats the purpose. So bash Bush, but don't give me this damn "drilling is evil" nonsense. Kitso KS 361 |
Kitso, I didn't read where anyone said that 'drilling is evil' in this thread. I just think that there are other ways for Americans to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. I think that a combination of alternative sources of fuel and energy conservation are viable options.

Three years ago I was a millionaire (on paper) and would have been a lot more than that at retirement. Now, I'm about half that, and a lot closer to retirement. My inlaws made a pretty fair amount of money when they sold their farm, used a very good professional financial planner, and did well living off of the interest from investments and other things. When the "recession" hit, they had to start digging into the principle. And, just out of frustration, I really am steamed that I've been paying into a system for 40 years, from which the government said I would get certain benefits -- and then potentially get nothing. |
I like how nobody knows about anything and everyone talks about everything.

Hmmm....Maybe that's why they call this area Chit Chat. Just a thought.
(ETA, I mean General Chat) Of course, with the exception of TV and a few other things I've lived through first hand, I don't claim to know much of anything. |

i have a huge problem with you referring to a pure accident (b/c if you had actually read the article talking about it, you would've read that several accidents had been at that intersection and that the stop sign she ran was hardly visible) then making it sound like she killed someone intentionally and left them in a ditch or something. not at all what happened.....hopefully you never experience something as horrible as that and then later have someone make some snide comment about it to merely try and make a "point." on topic: i just wonder about kerry b/c he just doesn't seem strong in what he thinks is right for the country as well as what the people want. when the whole gay marriage thing came up in mass., he was all, "well, personally, i, uh, don't agree with it....but...." to me, if you're gonna vote for something your party favors....SELL IT...convince me you're right. don't try to play to both sides, ya know? bush may not be able to get through a speech without a stutter, but at least everyone knows where he stands on issues. i like the person i am voting for to have a strong sense of character....and while i don't agree with everything he does/says (i know you're shocked, but it's true ;) ), i think he "sells"/is strong better than kerry and his ever-changing views. i agree with this war and it's purpose, and to pull troops out of iraq will un-do everything that's been accomplished. the fact that these countries we somewhat fear have leaders who want kerry in the white house also freaks me out......kerry just generally makes me nervous. i want someone in there saddam didn't like, ok.....is that too much to ask....? ;) |

Saddam doesn't like Americans period. So saying Saddam probably likes Kerry because he doesn't like Dubya is just a Repblican scare tactic. Even Bush is backing down about bragging about his fight for terrorism and Iraq because for the first time his numbers are falling in those categories. I think the two former administartion members coming out against Bush, the 9/11 commission, and the now famous memo have damanged his crediablity at least for now this early in the election season. I am sure the big rise in american deaths and kidnappings don't help either. |
no, tke, just kinda going off about past saddam loves.....he celebrated when clinton took out papa bush.....so really just re-stating that i like the idea of having a man in office that saddam doesn't like. not really trying to say he "loves" kerry or whatever, though. i do know that kerry was bragging, or stating...whatever you wanna call it ;), about leaders in other countries wanting him to win, but then he wouldn't say who. so my personal guess (which is only a guess and could be so wrong) is either some middle eastern country or france....neither of which have an opinion i care to mimic. i think, yes, that osama and saddam and company hate America and Americans.....but i think they really hate us when a bush is in office b/c they know that they won't put up with any of their isht and that they will fight it full force.
my .02.....i still love ya, tke, even if ya tried to flame me a tad. ;) :D :) |
