Musiq, you missed on this one

Anyone else feeling Musiq's latest, Soulstar?

Aside from song 6 --"Whoknows," which is a great song -- the rest of the album is .....booty. And it's surprising because both his earlier albums were tight.

You really think so? This is my favorite Music CD thus far. I didn't care for the second one quite as much. I love the "Soulstar" intro and Track # 8 "Miss You" the most.

Other than that, still blasting KEM and old Maxwell CDs on a daily basis - mad that I can't find my Heather Headley CD.

Conskeeted7 04-28-2004 11:44 AM

I have to agree that Musiq missed the radar with this latest project. There are a few good songs on there. I like #5-7, 9, 12, and 15. But that doesn't compare to his first or second CDs, which I could listen to all the way through.

Why is Monica's latest song just horrible to me? I think she's another one with a great voice. Oh well...

The song sounds good to me. I'm not that much of a Brandy fan, but her voice sounded a bit more mature.

I forgot the name of the song.

The song is called "Talk About Our Love". I also like it, but I agree Kanye is starting to be EVERYWHERE!!

Anyway, after all this time of waiting for it, I thought that it would be better. I heard her on Russ Parr and she was stating all the turmoil on the label, etc. They really didn't do her any justice. I mean, she only has a 15 minute set on the Ladies First tour. She said that she will expand on her next album and do more ballads. I can't wait (whenever that may be). She has a beautiful voice and I love her singing slow jams.
I didn't care for Tamia's cd either, the only song I love was "still". She featured too many rappers and wanna be Ashanti beats. I hate when artists like Toni Braxton do that, it takes away from their real talent. I do like Amel L. new CD, she has some really beautiful songs on it.

AKA2D '91 05-12-2004 02:13 PM

Are there any other new releases other than Teena?

I know I'm late, but I picked up Kanye. IT'S hott! :D

Tony, I like the cd. Of course, it's not as good as the first and second album to me, but it's grown on me.

Hmm. I was considering buying the CD on the strength of Who Knows. Not a fan of the first song he released from the CD.

Soulstar is aight, but his 1st CD was his best to me. I can groove to the 2nd one, too, but the first was the best. Poparatzi is my jam.

Maybe I'm late, but I heard that Mase's new song is getting play on the West Coast. I think it's called "Welcome Back".

I just don't agree with this whole comeback situation. :(

They played it on Russ Parr show this morning and it's pretty good. It sampled the Welcome Back Kotter theme and it had a good hook

1savvydiva 05-13-2004 10:21 PM

What is it about? Nothing really?

RBL 05-13-2004 10:52 PM

There is not one real theme..but it's a really positive sing. Basically Mase is putting down the current state of Hip Hop

Jill Scott Update

HIDDEN BEACH RECORDINGS JILL SCOTT RETURNS WITH HER LATEST CD, BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN: WORDS AND SOUNDS, Vol. 2

The Platinum Plus-Selling Soul Singer Unveils Her New Body of Work

Fans have been waiting for it. The music industry has been anticipating it. And now three time Grammy-nominated vocal sensation Jill Scott is set to deliver yet another collection of luminous and poignant songs as her new CD, Beautifully Human, Words And Sounds Vol. 2, is unveiled August 31 on Hidden Beach Recordings.

Scott, who after nonstop promotion of her 2001 multi-platinum-selling debut CD, Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sounds, Vol. 1, took time off to exhale. She married her soulmate and enjoyed life as a newlywed. Scott, a former Broadway actress (Rent), also quenched her thespian thirst by doing some acting and, of course, she carved out some downtime to write and create music. After embarking on other creative outlets, the multi-talented performer is ready and excited about expressing herself again through song. While Scott got back into the mindset to craft enchanting music and inspiring lyrics, she appreciated all the positive vibes and patience her fans gave to her.

This alluring wordsmith has again created songs that are nurtured in the heart and sung with love. In fact, the first single, "Golden," talks about freedom and empowering oneself to live to the fullest, to look at life as if it is golden. Scott will shoot the music video for "Golden" in the coming weeks.

For this CD, Scott turned to some of the same producers from Who Is Jill Scott?--James Poser, Andre Harris and Vidal Davis, Ivan and Carvin ("Mama's Boys"). She also sought a fresh approach by going into the studio with producers she had long wanted to collaborate with such as Ant Bell, P-nut, Pete Kuzma, and Raphael Saadiq.

Taking her music back to its grassroots, Scott will debut her new work at intimate listening sessions across the nation. And though Beautifully Human has yet to be released, Scott is already receiving media coverage. She will be featured on the cover of the August issue of Essence magazine. During her three-year hiatus, Scott remained in the public eye. She completed a movie for Showtime titled Cavedwellers with Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, and appeared in an episodic arc (4 episodes) of the UPN's series "Girlfriends." She also secured a publishing deal with St. Martins Press.

But Scott's focus now is pure music. Her vision is Beautifully Human.

That studio joint released with Experience: Jill Scott 826 + with that song "Gimme" doesn't count as her second?

Now, I dig a couple of songs from the CD...but yeah, overall wack compared to Brown Sugar, which I still bump.

Jill should be fine, but it's been awhile. I think of India Arie. I personally like her 2nd CD more than the first. But, I'm in the minority.

RANDOM NEWS: The greeks in the Dilated Peoples video, This Way are really greek. They belong to undergrad chapters in SoCal.

Kim from AI3 ---what is her name???

I know somebody spoke on it earlier but whaz up with Kim ?? from AI3's new album? I saw it at Target the other day, but didn't pull the trigger. Somebody said it was country or country/western?, which definitely would put it in the no-buy category for me no matter how fine she it.

abaici 05-16-2004 05:39 PM

Her video is currently in MTV rotation. It's so hokey. She has a lovely voice, but again...corny.

CrimsonTide4 05-16-2004 06:09 PM

I liked the 2nd Jill track better than the first but neither of them was I feeling like I did with most of the songs on Who Is Jill Scott?

I appreciate the sound and what he was going for. I do love the rough sound quality of it. It's like listening to an album. However, beyond Devil's Pie...it was not as good as the first effort.

I can't even give that CD away(currently in a shoebox with the rest of the disappointing CD's...keeping Mama's Gun company). I bought it b/c Brown Sugar was soooo good. Send it On was the only GOOD song on the CD. i didn't understand it lyrically or musically.:( :( :( :(

RBL I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands, since it is gathering dust.

You can send em COD.

Mama's Gun wasn't as big a disappointment as Voodoo(close though)..... it was a far cry from Baduizm. I'm all for artistic maturation and growth but DANG!!! :(

I gotta disagree STRONGLY on both opinions.

Granted, neither album was as accessible or catchy as previous efforts, but they were still BEAUTIFUL pieces of music. Devil's Pie and Left and Right were perhaps the only songs I disliked on Voodoo, and on Mama's Gun I can listen to the whole album without skipping a track.

SKEEphistAKAte 05-17-2004 04:47 PM

Is Mama's Gun the one with the song "Danger"? If it is, I like that CD. It is not Baduizm which is one of my favorite cd's but I still like it. It is definitely better than the previous album she put out. I can't think of the name of it. That one was garbage.

Naw, that's "Worldwide Underground". :D

OHHH!! Ok, then I agree, Mama's Gun was straight lukewarm garbage.

Senusret I 05-18-2004 07:24 PM

now THIS is the ish I listen to!

This right cherre is the type of stuff I LOVE....mash-ups:

This Way, Girls (Dilated Peoples "This Way" vs TLC "Girl Talk")

(It's an MP3 file)

And no, that's not men singing...that is TLC played at an extremely low pitch!

AKA2D '91 05-19-2004 08:10 AM

Jill Scott comes out in August. I think the 31st, not the 21st.
