We call our formal "Golden Anchor Ball" and we don't really have a semiformal..we had a date party this year though...

our chapter of Sig Eps had their Founders Formal
but the Eta chapter has Sweetheart Ball

My particular chapter has a Black and Gold Ball and a Beautillion Gala.

I have seen other chapters call theirs the Sphinx Ball and Pharaoh's Ball.

My Chapter calls our formal the Emerald Ball. Which is a month away and I can't wait. I love my dress! :D

We have Fleur-de-Lis semi-formal, and Sapphire Ball for formal.

Ours is called Red Rose Formal others on campus are:

Gamma Phi Beta: Cresent Ball
Alpha Phi: Bordeaux Ball
Sigma Nu: White Rose
Beta Theta Pi: Beta White

Sigma Kappa: Violet Ball or Pearl Premiere

we have the Carnation Ball in the Spring (this saturday actually, but i will be at the Kenny Chesney concert ) and the fall formal is called Phi Formal (it's where we give out all of our new member awards)

It varies from chapter to chapter, and also might depend on whether it is held jointly with another group, such as SAI.

We call ours the Red Rose Formal, since red is both a sorority and school color, and everyone wears red.

Ours doesn't have a name. We do it with Phi Mu Alpha though, which is fun. :D We just pick a different theme every year.

Ours is April 3. I have my dress, shoes, jewelry, a sister is doing my hair, I'm doing my makeup, and now I have a date. I'm excited. :)

Our other rose being buff, I suppose it's just as well that Alpha Gams don't have Buff Formals. <vbg>

Perhaps an all-Greek event could just be called the Horticulture Hop for convenience.

we call our spring formal, "formal" and in the fall instead of having a semi formal all the chapters on my campus get together and have the Presentation Ball where each chapters new members are presented to the others.

I think the grand majority of Tridelt chapters call it this; we use it too and I haven't ever heard of any other name.

We call our Fall formal the Rose Ball and our Spring formal the Ruby Ball.

I know that AKL names their spring one the Yellow Rose since alot of AOII's are in attendance.

our formal is called Sapphire Ball too. (its not in two weeks though) Don't know how many other Phi Sig chapters call it that.

Our semi-formal is called Winter Banquet (not too creative) :p

My chapter calls formal "Sapphire Ball" also. But the chapter I advise simply calls it formal. So it's not a Phi Sig wide thing. ;)

Our chapter calls our fall semi-formal the Diamond Cocktail, and our spring formal the Killarney Rose Ball.

we have Winter Formal in fall , and the date dash which replaced our semiformal in spring is called Deepher Dash.

We have winter informal and then Starball in spring.

We just call semiformal "semiformal" (in November) and then our formal is called "Saphire Ball" and thats in the spring! :D

We have a winter formal which is sometimes called Snowflake ball, but mostly our spring one is "Beaux and Arrows" and is usally on the gateway clipper, the dinner cruise that goes out of Piitsburgh. its way fun

But the most fun i'v EVER had at a formal was at TKE's formal Red carnation ball...those boys know how to party... :)

I've heard of chapters of Phi Psi and FIJI jointly throwing formals as the Jefferson Duo, both being founded at that school. Same goes for Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi-the Monmouth Duo. There are many schools around the country where Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta have a joint dance, Kite and Key, apparently because both were founded on the same day (?).

Lambda Chi Alpha will often hold a White Rose Formal. Not all chapters do so, but if there was a more or less universal event it would be split between White Rose & something we call Founder's Day.

As a practical matter, Founder's Day doesn't get anywhere near the support that the formal receives.

we have always called our spring formal the "Dream Girl Formal" because that's when we announce what girl we've chosen. we just have a semi-formal in the fall with no particular name.

Hey, you know I could be mistaken...I said most chapters because I've run across a few chapters' web sites that have pics from their "Fireman's Ball" formals, but perhaps it isn't most chapters at all...hmm...

well I guess it doesn't matter either way, since we also reveal/announce who our Dream Girl is at that particular formal...

It was always Roseball...it was always very elegant.

Our semi-formal is in the Winter and it doesn't have a name. Our formal is in the Spring and is always called White Carnation Ball.

FIJI has Purple Garter(fall quarter for my chapter) and Black Diamond(spring quarter for my chapter). I think pretty much every chapter hosts at least one of these formals. For purple garter, each guys date receives a purple garter with info from the event embroidered on it. We usually did Purple Garter in Vegas and Black Diamon on Catalina Island.
