I stopped by the yarn shop and bought size 6 circular and wool yarn for a hat. I haven't used circular ones before, I hope it goes smoothly.

wow - how did i miss this thread?
i taught myself how to knit a year ago and have been at it ever since. after several scarves, i'm finishing up a baby blanket now. i also just made fingerless mittens for 3 people (for xmas) and for myself. after i'm done with the blanket, i have another one to knit up quickly as my friend is due in march. plus i want to make a felted bag for myself. i love circular needles and dont really use straights any more. so if anyone has questions, feel free to ask. for those of you with scrap yarn, please consider joining in this effort: http://www.savethechildren.org/publi...orts/kit11.pdf |
I knit, and crochet, but my first love is tatting. You may have known your grandmothers or aunts or other older relatives who tat, but I can assure you that tatting is not a lost art! It's a nice, portable craft and it makes lovely lace.
I also do bobbin lace and have tried some needle lace, but I always come back to my shuttles. |
I must have missed this thread, too! I love to knit. I'm hurrying to finished a scarf for my mother-in-law for Christmas, and I have a charcoal scarf in the works for my husband.
Knitting blogs are cool! My favorites: www.yarnharlot.ca and www.scrumptiousliving.wordpress.com |
Bumping this up...
Anyone working on an exciting project? Decided to start knitting or picking it up again? I finished an afghan last weekend, finishing another french press cozy today, and I've got some other random projects (socks especially) to work on. Is anyone here on ravelry.com? I have the same username over there, we could have a group for greeks who knit, since there's a group for everything. |
Oh, what a nice thread. I love to knit and crochet, but have not had time for either lately. I started crocheting in 2005, and then learned how to knit about 6 months later. My last big project was crocheting a king sized blanket.

This is a needlework project to raise awareness about coral reefs. Look closely at the picture. http://www.theiff.org/reef/index.html |
It's time for a barter. One of you expert knitters make me this http://needled.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/owls2.jpg and I will stitch you up a nice wall quilt that incorporates one of your org's symbols.

I love this! My step daughter knits, but she has a two year old, so it could be 16 more years before she could get around to it. |

As for knitting, I'm pondering trying to teach myself how to do it. I learned the basics at 16 but just didn't get into it. |

Now you all have gone and done it!
I need to go find my yarns and crochet hooks (I actually know where my size 10 knitting needles are even though I haven't used them in over 20 years) and get busy! I have a slight problem though: I want an afghan hook, but I'm having problems finding one with a flat front. I've gone to my local Michael's but they don't have any. Something like the ones in this pic:

All Shades of Pink
For anyone out there who likes to crochet, I have a wonderful organization that could use your help! I know this is the Knitter's thread, but this is a great philanthropy. All Shades of Pink is a non-profit organization of crocheters who make "comfort blankets" for breast cancer patients at my hospital in Prince George's County, MD. These blankets are given to women when they come in for their surgeries, and all of the patients have been absolutely thrilled with these blankets. These women are amazing. I'm going to start making blankets for them when I am between new nieces and nephews. If you'd like to help, go to their website, www.allshadesofpink.org.

Okay so this thread is 2.5+ years old, but I just started loom knitting last month and I love doing it! It's great for me - I'm not crafty and I've failed in the past learning to knit/crochet with needles. Loom knitting rocks!! I have the 10" and the 28" AKB looms and so far I've made 2 scarves and I'm just getting started on an afghan. I'm on ravelry (paulam43054).

Can you tell us more about loom knitting? And where did you find classes?
|
On an unrelated note, a school in my hometown just won $25k for knitting items for Special Olympics!
|
Awesome, AGDLynn! The Special Olympics Wonter Olympics scarf project is ongoing right now, BTW.

No classes - the boards come with a DVD that shows you the basic stitch and it's really easy to pick up (if you can weave string every other peg and flip the board, you can knit). It's double knitting which means it doesn't have a front/back - both sides are finished. I did my first scarf in a few hours! Here's a video - it's from HSN but if you watch minute 4 it gives a good overview of just how easy Loom Knitting is! |
Bump because quilting thread and I don't quilt, but do knit.
I learned by watching YouTube videos. Still a beginner, but have done scarves, hats, socks, and one single lonely slipper so far. It makes my train rides go so much faster. |
Yay for a knitting "bump." I'm trying to make more time for knitting. I love it but rarely set aside the time. Here's to a fresh start!
It sounds like you are well on your way. I like to do baby items because they are small, but I get to practice techniques. |
I do most of my knitting while on the way to work - it's nice not having to drive!
|
I've done very little knitting recently. We added a kitten to our family a year and a half ago, and I'm worried about knitting around him, for two reasons - it's very bad if a cat swallows yarn (read: trip to the vet), and I don't want him destroying my yarn :p So I knit when I'm at the doctor's office.
Any ideas for knitting around cats? |
