Okay no one has mentioned the best SEC yet... who has the best fans and most loyal fans... Who has the most SEC Championships... Who has the most NCAA Basketball National Championships... I mean come on people.... UK. Let us admit that UK should not have been the number one selection committee team but when it came down to who the favorite was... it was UK, just because we are UK.

Our fans travel worldwide to be at games... that is why we are known as the BIG BLUE NATION. That is also why at Sunday nights game, other teams fan's were cheering against UK.

As to the weather, I've been to 42 states and three countries, I've lived in 3 southern states and though I loved each state for something different...
Louisiana... the culture... Texas... the... (I'm drawing a blank, I'll figure something out...) and North Carolina... the green green beauty of the mountains.... But Kentucky is the best... we have mountains but not really over powering ones, we have the BLUEGRASS, we have all four seasons, that last just long enough to soak them all in and our summers aren't as hot as Texas and we get just enough snow to please me. We also have a saying... "If you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes, it will change." Like it did on Saturday... I spent the morning working in the garden (70 degree's outside) and by Sunday it was snowing.

Okay... I'll stop rambling about my favority SEC state.

ETA: We also have the best Cheerleaders in the world... again dominating the championships both at the collegiate level and on the high school level.

BUT, My Pittsburg State (Kansas) Gorilla Mascot was one of the top 10 Playboy Picks for Best Mascot!:D

Thank You For Allowing This Unpaid Announcement!

Please go on with the discussion!;)

I know who has the most National Football Championships! :D

Roll Tide!

And, for the record, most Alabama and Auburn alums don't hate each other that much. In my experience, Auburn alums hate Georgia more than Alabama, and Alabama fans hate Tennessee more than Auburn.

I will say that I can't imagine having gone to Auburn... it's like a gigantic trailer park! But that's just my UA snobbery showing through. lol

Also, I didn't say that UA was ranked #1 in either academics or "partying" (the University brass has taken great pains to lower its "party" standings). Just that we make both lists. And that UA has more academic All-Americans than any other school.

I don't claim that the University of Alabama is all things to all people. It definitely isn't for everyone. But saying that Vandy is the "best" SEC school is crazy! :P

Alcoholics? Nooooo.

People who appreciate the social aspects of drinking and can (for the most part) hold their liquor? Absolutely!

Bourbon -- never go to a football game without it. ;)

By JIM NAZIUM, Associated Press Writer

(AP) GAINESVILLE - The University of Florida has announced that it will play all home football games on Thursday nights, starting with the 2005 season. "We realized that any school with the colors of a fast food restaurant, really should not consider itself part of college football" explained Jeremy Foley, the schools athletic director. "We are still proud members of the SEC, although we would gladly consider a change in our colors if the ACC should offer us membership. Then we would truly be a part of college football."

The1calledTKE 03-23-2004 01:20 PM

The ACC can have UF if they really wanted it. Don't think you would have too many SEC fans complaining. :p

TSteven 03-23-2004 01:22 PM

ESPN pays to move games to Thursday evenings.

Walking through the parking lots days before games through RVs of people already grilling out and playing football. Amd you can't beat downtown nights before games (and after) when all the streets are flooded with people.

TSteven 03-23-2004 01:33 PM

Yep. The SEC is too busy getting bigger bucks for ESPN Saturday night games - often on espn2 as well - and then there are all those games on CBS. The SEC isn't hurting when it comes to revenue. :D

Espn figures Thursday is the only day normal sports fans will watch the ACC games. Because Saturday everyone is watching the SEC because its the best football around. FSU and probably NC State were the only decent ACC football teams. Now that Miami ,VT are joing the ACC FSU might have a real challenge and won't be able to claim they are the best in the ACC as easily. Wonder why FSU isn't playing VT in the 2004 season. NC State and even Wake Forrest is playing VT and Miami. :p

And that's been proven. :p

I really want to go to an SEC football game this summer when I visit my relatives to see what the hoopla is all about - I still think the UW team could hold their own against these schools.

ALSO Marquette football definitely still rules. :D

Oh it still does, 50 years later. :D We keep joking we can't have football now because there'd be nowhere to house all the new students who'd want to come here if we had it. We already pretend to be Notre Dame all the time anyway, so why not add football? ;)

A few years ago, Sports Illustrated did a whole story on the Uga lineage at UGA and rated him the #1 mascot. Uga also graced the cover of the issue, which was the first picture that I posted.

As far as hatred goes between SEC schools, I don't hate any school like I hate UF, but I think that comes from living in Florida. I have friends who are Auburn, LSU and Bama fans that I don't talk to until a couple weeks after the game is over because it's just too sore of a subject for one of us. With that said, I will always root for an SEC team if they are playing an out of conference opponent :)

AHHHH!! I grew up being a HUGE Kentucky basketball fan! And I still pull for them unless they're playing us (and in that case it usually doesn't matter anyway cause our b-ball team usually isn't that great).

Kentucky cheerleading! I would've given my left leg to cheer at KY! I was a competitive HARD CORE cheerleader in HS and I had a few friends who ended up cheering there. It was like a dynasty until this year and they finally got beat after something like 8 years---?

Tennessee Women's basketball also has an excellent reputation. Head Coach Pat Summit is the most well-known womens coach in the country. I went to see Pearl Jam at Thompson Bowling Arena once and Eddie Vedder looked around and said "It doesn't take a genious to see tham women rule around here" or something like that.

YEA SEC!!

Better ? Maybe. Have more supplies and men? Definately.

Grant made the difference because before him becoming head of the army the North lost almost(notice i said almost) every major battle.

The North won yes. The South knows this and is glad to be apart of the United States. It's the Northerners that can't seem to get past it all and like to talk about they won. ;)

Most the Army now is stationed in the South and West so go figure.

Oh and go SEC ;)

I'll put aside my petty competitiveness to agree with you that you do have the best cheerleading. I used to watch ESPN when I was younger, and you just kinda knew that Kentucky was going to win.

And your basketball team is consistently good. Then again, we did beat you once this season, but we have a good team this season, anyway.

Some SEC love for ya.

SMSUBear 03-23-2004 08:54 PM

I love the thread I have created...muhuhuhahahaha

I'd like to see Arkansas join the Big 12. I know it will NEVER happen, but I loved watching the Capital One Bowl this year. I wish we could see some Mizzou vs. Arkansas action on a more common basis. Especially at Faurot Field.

You guys were talking about not getting into the games, is that a real problem for students too? I was thinking about transfering down to an SEC school through SMS for a semester or two (either Ole Miss or Alabama, I'd probably go with Alabama), but if I can't even enjoy football there, I would be very irritated. I'd have to say seeing the Iron Bowl would be an awesome experience which I would really want to do if I was down there.

You guys could give the Big 12 Arkansas, pick up Tulane or something like that, and then the Big 12 could get rid of some excess weight, like Baylor. YEEE HAAA!!!

SMSUBear

Edit: NC is not SEC. The SEC is: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU, So. Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Vanderbilt, Ole MIss, and Mississippi St.

hottytoddy 03-23-2004 09:02 PM

Taken from Playboy Website:

SEC schools in the Top 25 party schools:

Georgia
Florida
Vanderbilt (I know you are all thinking that this one shouldn't be on the list...but I've been to some of their parties and those smart kids know how to party)
Mississippi --Ole Miss has produced more Miss Americas than any other school.

What does the Princeton Review know about partying????? I'm pretty sure playboy has a more accurate analysis. :D

The Iron Bowl is AWESOME. If it is a home game, student tickets are like $5. Most students get tickets to the games, but you do have to order them in a package before the season starts. Current students order theirs in the spring and freshmen/transfers order in the summer. I have never heard of someone not being able to get student tickets if they order within the time frame. It is harder to get away tickets... there are only so many away tickets that are allocated to students. If you want away tickets, you can ask for them, but they are based on senority (how many credit hours a student has earned at UA).

I grew up going to Alabama football games. My best friends went there as well and i even went to a few games while I attended Ole miss. I probably can tell you any player, coach and stat about Alabama football during the 80's and 90's...and I ended up going to Ole Miss. Alabama has a huge tradition with football, however...

Their ain't NOTHING like The Grove. I'm not even going to try to explain it..there's no way i can..you just have to be there. Sports Illustrated named us #1 in Tailgating.

This past year when we played South Carolina we met a group of guy from NYC who get together every year and go to a college football game, They'd been EVERYWHERE!!! I mean everywhere! ANd they said someone told them to go to Ole Miss. We invited them to tailgate with us and all...after like 10 minutes in the town they said they'd officially seen it all...from then on they weren't just going to go to a college game every year...they were coming to The Grove every year. Not only that...2-3 weeks later when we played LSU...they showed up again! Decked out in Ole Miss gear...they said they couldn't wait a year. LOL!
