When I was younger I wanted a Quarter Horse sooooo bad...but of course any kind of horse would have sufficed. :p I never got it, but hey, my sister has one now so I can play catch-up.

There were the typical stupid kid things. My mom had this issue with the game Mousetrap. I thought it looked so cool and she had this aversion to buying it for me, probably because of all the tiny parts. I now have two young kids who want the same damn game and when I think of it all I can picture are a million little plastic pieces all over the house. I wanted a canopy bed and I never got one. Then I wanted a waterbed (hey it was the 70s) and I never got that either. I did get a brand-new set of "adult" furniture with a big bed when I was 12, so I guess they made up for that.
The one that really hurts even now is my VW Beetle. Right after I turned 15 I started campaigning for what kind of car I wanted. I had been obsessed with Beetles since childhood and I even had those VW magazines I had torn pinups out of with the really cool restored Bugs and the requisite bikini models all over my room. Well my dad never let on that he took it seriously so I didn't know what to expect. And then, as my birthday approached, the new model year cars came out and I remember the first time I laid eyes on the 1988 Camaro Iroc-Z.....it was the coolest thing I had ever seen! I talked about that car incessantly, not knowing that my dad had already found me a perfectly restored '67 Beetle in Miami....flawless paint, upgraded sound system, sunroof......he had put a deposit down to hold it and when I started going on about the Iroc-Z he thought I didn't want a VW anymore. So he cancelled!!!!!! I didn't find out about this until like a year later. Needless to say I didn't get the Iroc, he thought that was a little too much car for a 16 year-old. I ended up getting an '85 VW Golf that I drove until my 18th birthday, when he decided I was finally mature enough to handle a sporty new car. I've still never satisfied my desire for a VW Bug. |
I wanted an Atari since a few friends and my next door neighbor had one. I begged and pleaded, but I never got it.

when i was a little girl....an american girl doll (samantha to be specific). they bought me all the books instead (and in retrospect it was a good idea....i only wanted one because a bunch of my friends had them, but i never really played with dolls as a kid)
for the past three years....a new bed. :( |
I would tell my parents for years that all I wanted for my birthday was a baby panda cub.
Of course back then I didn't know they were on the endangered species list :p |
A Go-cart!!
http://www.hanleycompany.com/images/go-cart.jpg Never got one though :( I'm still bitter. |
Braces-They said ...get this...my FACE would grow to match my TEETH! Real comforting to a kid.
However, they were right. Now I am known for my smile and people always say I have such beautiful teeth! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...y/biggrina.gif |

I always wanted an Easy Bake Oven too. Parents said no way. So I used to sneak into the kitchen at night and bake weird concoctions b/c I wanted to bake. I'm still surprised that they never broke down on that one.
One of my good friends really wanted a Light Brite and for some reason her parents wouldn't get her one. A few months ago she bought herself the Light Brite Cube. She is so happy with it and her parents still don't understand why she's obsessed. |
A Lite Brite. My mom said I'd eat the pieces and choke on them.
I finally bought myself one in college. And I put the pieces in my mouth. They tasted like candy. |
I have to agree on wanting a horse. I wanted one so bad from about 7 to 12, but alas I never got one!

I had the Lite Brite and was always loosing those peices! |
I think that my expermentation is why I am a good cook today. I figured it all out myself and instead of being limited to the weird mixes and the size of that oven I had a full size oven and everything!
Of course, my mom used to come out in the middle of the night cuz the smell of baking would wake her and I'd get a nice lecture :) |
TR3 or TR7??
Black and white sports car!!
That and a decent record (yes, record) player. |
dance lessons. Ballet or tap.
We were always moving with dad being transferred (USAF) that my parents kept saying NO :( wah!!!! If I weren't so "old" and "decrepid" I would take them now. |
This will date me but...
I wanted REAL Cherokee shoes, not knock-offs, and REAL Chemin de Fers, not knock-offs, but my parents refused to pay for either when there were perfectly good knock-offs, missing only the nametag (which was, of course, what really mattered). I'm still a little bitter about this.

I have two things:
1. An Atari - My brothers insisted on getting Intellivision (anyone else have this??) and my parents wouldn't buy a second game system. I wanted to play Frogger sooooooo bad. 2. A trampoline - My mom thought we would kill ourselves on it. If we got one today, it would probably have to be something like this. http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/74/57/54...66_500X500.jpg |
Oh and one other thing...a RABBIT JACKET!! Man, you just weren't cool in my elementary school unless you had one. :(

I wanted a prostitute.
Didnt get one tho. :( My parents NEVER let me have any fun. <lifesaver kicks the dirt with his toes in a big ole aww shucks kinda way> |
My dad has had just about every kinna car a man can dream of...
He had: This in 1970: http://www.americandreamcars.com/1970xkecoup.jpg This is 1972... http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/co..._crm_lsfvw.jpg This in 1980: http://www.pbca1.com/show2002/pbca2002b_0014.jpg This in 1995: http://www.planetmotorcar.com/BMW%20...onv.%20frt.jpg And in 2000 he bought a black 1988: http://www.angelfire.com/fl/FieroGT/...6gtconvert.jpg And finally this in 2001: http://www.mertinis.de/Autos/Mercede...0SL%20mini.jpg He said I could have the '72 Volvo if I made all "A's" on my report card in the 3rd grade... I never did... But that's another story for a different day. Anyhow, he wound up having to liquidate all his 1970's and 1980's vehicles because of a tax audit and lien... The IRS nailed his a$$et$... In 1998 my dad gave my younger brother the 325i. My brother drove that chit into the ground, jackin up the engine somehow (don't ask--let's just say curbs get in my brother's way). AND my dad put the phat "Momo" rims on the car!!! Besides, I can't really drive a stick without burning the clutch on these kinna cars... I speed shift anyways... |
Oh and I always wanted a dog... But I got a "pet brother", fish, the occasionally lizards, skunks and possums that visited my house. And once a "rattlesnake"... But I never got a dog.
Mom said that when I was a baby, we had a dog. I dropped my rattle, the dog pounced on the rattle. That was the end of the dog... Now, my husband is a vet. He won't let me have a little dog. Sez he's not that secure with his "manhood" to walk a toy poodle down the street... He also sez just 'cuz he's the resident vet doesn't mean he has to take care of the dog... Even though he can buy all the meds the dog would ever need... He doesn't want the dog to go "pee pee" on the carpet... |
a puppy- but my mom hates dogs so that wouldn't have worked out, plus my parents were always saying that my sister and I would have never taken care of it, which may have been semi-true.
|
I wanted the Barbie Power Wheels Jeep thing.
|
I wanted a pony more than anything in the world! I could never understand why one could not live in our backyard - geez - it was already fenced in and dad would never have to mow the grass again!
|
I almost forgot about the Barbie camper. Never had it, always wanted it. My friend had it and I was very jealous.
I did have the Barbie loves McDonalds playset (the one which actually looked like a McDonalds restaurant with the hole in the roof so you could play in it), and the Barbie swimming pool, so I guess I wasn't too deprived there. :) |
