New Mascara!!

I just got the new Lancome mascara I pre-ordered and I love it! Go buy Hypnose!! It makes lashes look full and glossy! :D

I also got a sample of Urban Decay Skyscraper mascara. It makes my lashes look curled and pretty! Perfect for everyday wear.

hottytoddy 04-03-2004 04:04 AM

OK so today I loaded up on the Estee Lauder samples. Anyone know of any of their products that I need to try? I am still learning about most of them.

UKDaisy 02-06-2006 04:37 AM

I wanted to bring this thread back to life. A.) b/c its fun and B.) B/c I need rec's on a good mascara.

My favorite mascara is Prescriptives False Eyelashes, Plush Mascara or the Prescriptives Eyelash Curler Mascara. I just recently switched from Clinique to Prescriptives, only for the mascara. Oh, and I also really like their mascara basecoat, you should try it!

AOIIalum 02-06-2006 08:12 AM

Sephora waterproof mascara is wonderful!

Anyone else use Bare Minerals makeup or Philosophy skincare? I just got the monster 32 oz. Purity through QVC for for around $36! I've just started to use Hope in a Jar and Eye Believe and really like both.

Beryana 02-06-2006 08:56 AM

I too have been looking for a new mascara. My old favorite was discontinued and I really don't like what was brought in to replace it! WHY do companies go and do that - they have a great thing (and there are LOTS of people out there that think so) and then go and change it.

I'm also looking for a good foundation. I have tried MANY and most don't seem to stay - even those that are supposed to (i.e., Mary Kay's Medium Coverage). They either disappear or rub off. ARGH!!! I was told yesterday by the Clinique person that was doing the return (after she looked down her nose at me asking why I didn't not take it back to the counter in the town it was purchased) that it didn't stay because I wasn't using their skincare, that you should be using the foundation from the line of skincare you are using. I definitely did not go into the 'I've done that and it still doesn't make a foundation stay' discussion (or that I DO use a moisturizer and plenty of it, etc). Anywho!

Some of my must-haves:

Mary Kay lip gloss in Beach Bronze and Cocoa Creme
Lancome Resolution eye (definitely takes care of the circles, puffies, and lines!)
Lancome and Mary Kay brushes
Lancome Vinefit lip (though discontinued)
Aveda Phlomolient (sp?) - a wonderful light-weight styling foam
Mary Kay Microdermabrasion
American Beauty lipstick in Napa Berry

That's about it for my must-haves! I have been both a Lancome Counter Manager and a Mary Kay Consultant which will explain the trend - oh, and I live in a small town so I am basically limited to Lancome, Estee Lauder (iritates my skin), clinique (causes me to break-out), Elizabeth Arden, Kohl's lines, and various home party companies (Mary Kay, Avon, BeautiControl, etc)

Ok...So I just HAD to bump this thread! I have pretty oily skin that breaks out, plus I have red cheeks, so finding makeup that doesnt A) make my face look like someone struck oil, and B) actually covers up my skin without it looking dry and flakey is pretty hard to find! I've been using Neutrogena Healthy Skin powder for about a month now, and I must say, I absolutely LOVE this powder! It was like 10$, but honestly, I'd still buy it if it were 20 or 30 just because it really covers! Normally when I put my makeup on within a few hours it's already looking oily and yucky-but tonight, I put my makeup on around 4, and 7 hours later my skin is STILL looking pretty great! Not really oily, the red is showing through a little bit, but it's sooooo much better than how it was!

So a few questions for yall;) Any recs. for a good foundation that will cover my redness but won't make me look like an oil slick?:P Also, has anyone tried the new Almay Skincare line? I really wanna try it, but it's a little expensive for a d/s brand, so I wanna know that it actually COULD work for me before I shell out the $$$$ for it, lol.

adpiucf 03-24-2006 10:57 AM

I have just discovered Arbonne skin care products. The woman I bought them from said I should sell for them because I've been pushing the product on all of my friends. LOL. No thanks, I'll keep my day job-- but the stuff is great!!!

jubilance1922 03-24-2006 11:00 AM

I just discovered MAC's StudioFix liquid foundation and I love it!

KatieKate1244 03-24-2006 11:14 AM

Rimmel's new Recovery foundation is really nice. I bought it because it was supposed to take the look of fatigue out of your skin, and by george, it does. Rimmel's Stay Matte power is also really nice, and give it gives great coverage. Rimmel is kinda weird though, because your shade you buy looks wrong until you put it on.

AOIIalum 03-24-2006 02:49 PM

A few months into my Bare Minerals experiment and I'm hooked. It doesn't feel like foundation and it covers my redness pretty darned well. I think I'm a convert.

Oh my gosh I LOVE Bare Minerals! On my way back from Spring Break vacation, I went to the Bare Escentuals store in the airport in Atlanta. I'd never tried Bare Minerals before, but I got the starter kit (only $75 for a ton of stuff!) and some other stuff. I'm seriously addicted to the stuff.

JennRN 03-24-2006 08:06 PM

So fun!! I love:

St. Ives Apricot scrub, and also their new Apricot Cream Cleanser

Smashbox Foundation Primer in Clear and Bronze

anything by Benefit

Nars Orgasm Blush

Benefit Bad Gal Mascara

L'oreal Voluminous Mascara

Palmers Cocoa Butter chapstick ( so cheap, yummy, and it works!)

Olay Quench Body Lotion

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Lotion in Vanilla/Jasmine

Stila Convertible Eye Liner/Shadow

Tarte Cheek Stain in Blushing Bride

Tarte lip glosses and eye shadows are great too!!

Face Spa Pore Shrinking Mask with Astringent-this really works!! It does everything it says it will, and after I used it the first time, I ran right back to Eckerd's and bought everyone they had left. I LOVE it!!

So, I do need a new foundation though-I have not been loving the last 2 ones I tried-I need oil control in a big, bad way! Any suggestions?

KSUViolet06 03-24-2006 10:43 PM

St. Ives body lotion
MAC StudioFX powder
MAC Lipglass (in any color)
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
Dior Addict lipstick
Aveeno facial moisturizer
ProActiv solution
Victoria's Secret body wash and spray (Love Spell)

UKDaisy 03-25-2006 12:12 AM

I'm going to add my new fave!!!!

Chanel Precision Gommage Microperle Eclat - or more humanly known as Gel Exfoliant - Makes my skin look radiant and fresh and smells like roses!!!!

mark. Glow Baby Glow lip gloss - Its very easy to apply over and over again, which comes in handy when I get ocd about my lip gloss.

I love Philosophy stuff - i buy so much of it through sephora.com! The Purity face wash is so gentle, yet it really does clean your face really well. Since using the Hope in a Jar moisturizer, my face glows. I just got the Microdelivery Peel from them too, and it is awesome. It just wipes all of the dead skin cells and build up right off your face. Color me impressed with the Philosophy line!

hehe...i suffer from "chapstick ocd"-i LOVE lip glosses and whatnot, but i have pretty full lips (bigger than i'd like honestly!) and i think making them all shiny just makes me look like a clown or like i went out of control with my makeup ya know?:P hehe

ilddd3 03-25-2006 10:34 AM

What do you want to know?

KatieKate1244 03-25-2006 02:11 PM

For those who are using Jergen's Natural Glow or something like it:

Are you putting it on your face? I've been testing a spot on my stomach using the Neutrogena Summer Glow, and I like what I'm seeing. (I can't use the Jergen's stuff for the face because I'm allergic to that lotion). Or should I just use a bronzer? I'm basically planning to use it on legs, arms, chest, and friends are telling me to put some on the tops of my feet, the back of my hands, tops of ears, and my neck, because if it's supposed to look like a tan, it'll look weird if you've got some pale places.

Denise_DPhiE 03-27-2006 02:23 PM

Katie - no I haven't put it on my face but I love the results it gives my white legs!

Jergens has a facial moisturizer that does the same gradual tan thing.

PhoenixAzul 03-27-2006 08:07 PM

One word:

Aveda.

I'm an Aveda addict. If it wasn't so bloody expensive, I'd use everything they make.

But I absolutely NEED the Self Control Styling stick for my hair (short 'n shaggy ;)). I like the rosemary and mint shampoo too.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Bare Minerals, and actually asked :)

Well, BE/Bare Minerals is mineral makeup. :) It gives me good coverage without feeling the makeup on my skin, which always drove me insane about foundation. BE is a more natural product without a lot of the chemicals you find in other products. Also, the minerals provide a natural SPF protection (most are SPF 15 but the Summer Bisque multitasker/concealer is SPF 20 I think?) That's always a good thing. Also, a little goes a LONG way with BE, so the stuff lasts. I bought my starter kit last fall over Thanksgiving weekend, and I've still got plenty to use up!

I also like it because you can get a variety of shades and it's easy to custom blend foundations, all overs/blushes, and eyeshadows. It's also VERY forgiving--if you apply too much or the color is off, it's easy enough to buff it down. I love the "radiances" and the "all over face colors" the most, even more than the foundation. Good brushes are your friend. The BE ones are okay, I like the soft focus and concealer brushes a lot.

It's really important to make sure to exfoliate and moisturize when you use mineral makeup. I was using the Aveeno Positively Radiant skincarewhen I first started, but I got a sample of philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser when I got my BE starter kit. Now, that's a cleanser, but that's another story for another post! I've switched to philosophy for skin care and am really pleased with my skin from using that and the BE. Also, the buffing is what warms up the minerals to your skin and is crucial. I usually pre-conceal by just patting on Bisque where needed, then use a Kabuki for foundation (I've got the medium kit foundations), then instead of the mineral veil (makes me itch) I do a *light* covering of clear radiance. I can wear Warmth (many people can't, use an extremely light hand with Warmth!), but prefer either Glee or Trudy. Really, Warmth is a bronzer and you only need a couple of grains of the stuff. BE won't ever call Warmth a bronzer though! :D

There are 3 BE shows on QVC tomorrow, so if you can watch you'll get a lot of info and tips about the products then. Also, if you're thinking about trying BE, get the starter kit from the BE website and not Ulta or Sephora. It's the best deal out there, period, because instead of just the 3 brushes/2 foundations/warmth/mineral veil/how to dvd--you get the baby buki brush AND well rested. Well Rested originally was an eyeshadow, but it also works to conceal and just as a great shadow base. I've got dark lids and WR really lightens and evens out that area for me. It's a great value for the price.

Just about anything else you'd ever want to know about the makeup at http://www.beaddicts.com/BEFaqs.html. Also there's http://forums.delphiforums.com/bareescentuals/start (message board community of BE users) and
http://community.livejournal.com/bar...w=86203#t86203 (great application tutorial)

Oh, if you want to try samples, I can vouch for http://www.colorfulsprinkles.com/. Great customer service and prices and generous samples.

ilddd3 03-27-2006 10:11 PM

Thanks :) That was quite a bit of info. Definitely didn't find that on the website.

ilovemyglo 03-28-2006 01:51 PM

I am also a huge addict of Bare Minerals makeup.
I loved the Benefit playsticks, also, for something creamy like, but it goes on creamy and then stays put- it doesnt rub off like most makeups... but it is nothing compared to Bare Minerals.

I bought the starter kit from Ulta, but I am probably going to go ahead and get the kit from them. I also have some of their eyeshadows, the summer bisque (for concealing) and an extra foundation to blend the colors right. I started with the medium which does well for everyone in my family, including my aunt that has had skincancer before- she is super paleand has pink undertones. My mom has a yellow undertone that darkens quickly in sun and they are sisters so like I said just about everyone can use it.

The great thing is it really does cover! Any pimples or discolorations are GONE and yet, it is so light it doesnt feel like makeup at all, it doesn't wear off or wipe off.

the other great thing is because they are natural minerals you can fall asleep in it and not feel guilty... I am infamous for doing that.

For Mascara, let me recommend three types- depending on your type.
First one is Bad Gal lash by Benefit- I think it costs $22 but it is like fake eyelashes in a tube. It lengthens and gives tons of volume.
I also really REALLY was surprised by Max Factor newest mascara Lash Perfection. The wand is not like any other wand I have used and it grabs EVERY lash and looks terrific. I use this for everyday wear, plus it is cheaper. Its great for work and doesn't look as exotic as the Bad Gal Lash.
I also have Bourjous mascara with the click additions. I like it for weekend use, I use it with the Bad Gal for extra length on the far ends of my eyes as well as the color additions for added oomph when you go out to the clubs or whatever. The green looks great on my eyes but I also have the blue.

Skin care stuff- I have HYPER Sensitive skin, as in ANY oil will break me out. I used to use the expensive oil free moisturizer from Clinique but now I am using Johnson and Johnson acne oil free moisturizer. It works well and absorbs well.. for cleansing I love the Loreal stuff in the blue bottles- forget what it is called right now- it is a great exfoliant and the toner really works well.

I do makeup on the side anymore for weddings and stuff for people I know... for makeup brushes, invest the money and buy good brushes- if you dont want to go too expensive try Japonesque. Honestly even some cheap makeup will look better if you use the GOOD brushes.
Hope that helps!

AlphaFrog 03-28-2006 01:54 PM

Pro-Active...seriously when I get a monthly breakout from the joys of being a female it clears me up in a day.

Yep I put it on my face, but I wouldn't recommend it for people that are prone to break-outs. They make the stuff specifically for your face, but I just use the regular lotion because my face doesn't usually break out. You should put the lotion anywhere that you would naturally tan, or else it would look really odd.

PhoenixAzul... I agree with the Aveda comments!! I switched to their hair care a few years ago, and have been a devoted customer since. I use the Scalp Benefits for everyday use, and Sap Moss if my hair gets a little dry. Rosemary Mint is awesome too.

Chanel eye make-up has been my favorite to date, and I pretty much stick to that. Plus I LOVE their Glossimers.

ZTAMich 03-28-2006 08:19 PM

I just found out the bf gets a discount at the Estee Lauder Company store here in NYC thru his work. That's SO many brands!!!

Stila & Aveda & MAC OH MY!

What to buy first? I'm a little lost HELP

I'm allergic to the Jergen's formula, so I can't use the stuff for faces. Bascially, I've been putting a tiny bit on my face, and it's seems to be working so far.

33girl 04-26-2014 05:22 AM

Big ginormous bump! What do you say ladies?

Pretty much all the things I listed are still faves, except those that hwve gone to that great cosmetics counter in the sky.

A few additions:

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette - I swear this was made especially for me. Every single shade works.

Nars Orgasm illuminator. (If I could buy Nars everything I would.)

Nivea body wash in the white container

Scent - Lady Stetson (still crazy after all these years), Ralph Lauren Pure Turquoise, Rare Gold, and Hanae Mori Butterfly.

Tulip86 04-26-2014 09:43 AM

Oooooh how have I never seen this thread before? Make-up junkie!

Nars blush in Orgasm, the lipgloss is great as well.

Max Faxtor Smooth Effect foundation, very light, oil-free

Dior Diorshow waterproof mascara

Essie is my favorite for nailpolish, tart deco a current favorite.

Dr Organic Argan Oil Bodywash

Moroccan Oil for my hair, makes is so soft and easy to style

Dolce and Gabbana no 3 L'Imperatrice is my go-to scent.

Most of my other beauty products are from a Dutch store called HEMA, cheap, great colors and small packaging so I don't have to buy huge amounts of each color. Their mineral powder is the best.

AZTheta 04-26-2014 12:01 PM

Exfoliate - it really makes a difference. I use:

Cetaphil for face and body cleansing. Those pouf things are great for applying the Cetaphil.

CeraVe lotion - the SA (salicytic acid) or the other one, depending on my skin and the time of year.

And I swear by 100% african shea butter (either the West African or the East African. The latter is way more expensive but I love it). I layer on lotion and cream to keep skin hydrated.

Sunblock everywhere, especially on the backs of my hands.

For cosmetics I like the Bobbie Brown line, great colors and quality. And eos lip balm - lasts forever.

TP24 - which Ckone mascara did you get?

honeychile 02-01-2015 12:28 AM

Has anyone else tried Younique's 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara? I don't know why I can't get it to look right on me, but I keep seeing other women use it with great results! Is it just me?

33girl 03-27-2015 12:37 PM

Bump!

Has anyone used the CeraVe AM facial moisturizer? I need something to replace Clinique DDML since it has taken the express to Suck Town.
