That's so funny!

I use the name Kimber at work and when I speak to customers they ask me if that is my real name and then I have to explain that we have more than one Kimberly.

I have also spoken to customer who have had the name Kimber as their real birth name.

When I was younger I always used KimL because there was always another Kim. I have never been the only one. Now I just use KL, and people actually all me that as well.

Wow, I can't believe that someones real name is Kimber...that's different. My only difference is my name is Kimberley. My mom got some bright idea that she wanted to give me the "British" spelling, and then she gets angry when no one spells it correct.

My boyfriend thinks my daughter will have the same problem
because I spelled her name Kendell instead of Kendall.

My cousin Kim spells hers the same way, and I spent half our childhood teasing her by calling her Kimber-laaaaaaay, lol.

How many times have you heard that you were "Nelta the Delta"?

Lots of people call me "Erika" Badu because my hair is natural and I wear headwraps sometime. I am always like , "You are so original!"

LOL

My first name is, Deirdre, it is pronounced Dear-dra and it means "sorrowful." I asked my mom why she chose my name, she said, "I just threw a name book up in the air, it landed on the page with that name on it, it sounded cute, so, I gave it to you." As you can see, my name is NOT spelled how it sounds. So, you can only imagine the many different names that I have been given. But, I love my name, because it is UNIQUE :D

Soror you ain't right. :D Actually over the years I have gotten use to the extra E in my name, but I must admit it does start to wear on a sista when it is constantly spelled wrong because people aren't paying attn.

I met a Kim some years ago, and her name was spelled
Kimberleigh. I was like that is just to much.

As a bored child stuck inthe house one day I came up with 13 different varioations on the spelling of Kimberly, including the leigh one. We actually have a neighborhood street here that is Kimberleigh.

Not La"Key"a or La "ch"aya, it's La - Ki (eye)- ya, rhymes with Mya, and the "H" is silent, origin: Hebrew

NoworNever,
My neice's middle name is similar to yours. It is Chaiya - it means "life" in Hebrew.
I like your name. :)

See Epitome, your post is informative b/c I've always wanted to name my daughter (whenever I have one :D ) Laila but wondered how it would be pronounced. I actually prefer the "Leilah" spelling but that would be *totally* mispronounced.

Love your name!

Hi Deirdre, I totally understand your pain. My name is also always mispelled and mispronounced.

My name is TRACY. Not Tracey. Everyone automatically throws that "e" in there.

Hi CT4,
I know that you weren't screaming. I laughed when I read your email. It's not pronounced with a long i sound in the middle. It's the way that you would think that it was pronounced. I was trying to indicate that the i was a short i sound that's why I wrote "i (short i)". :)

Have a good one,
SC

My name is Adaora pronounced Adora, but you have to spell it with the second "a". It's Nigerian for First Born;)

Yeah! I'm surprised you got that. Only Jewish people have been able to pronounce my name correctly and say, "that means life, right." Chaiya, Chava, Chaya and all similar spellings mean "life" in hebrew. I've been thinking of chopping off the "La" in my name and just going by Chaya. Your neice must be a very special girl. :p
