I have to go pick cotton now because I guess I'm poor or something. Also, Colonist, those Lyndon LaRouche people attacked us at the Cap South Metro stop - they called my mommy a capitalist pig. :p

What is wrong with what he said? The Democratic party is filled with a lot of people who aren't poor but are lower middle class. The Democratic party has been mostly associated with immigrants who fight to pay for a home.

I just don't like his characterization that the Democratic party is still traditionally being viewed as poor - why? Because we don't raise as much money as Republicans? Asians, the most recent immigrant group, tend to vote Republican, as do Hispanics. I don't really think the Democratic party is a party of the poor working-class man anymore - and I think that's why Edwards didn't succeed - he doesn't understand the base.

Small businesses like Tom's and ours are getting hammered.
Though very different in terms of product vs service, we have so many walls put up, blocking the ability to maximize success.
You have these tax brackets. Now it's just dandy if you are toward the top of your bracket, but if you just happen to fall into a higher level by a couple of thous-you get creamed. A few years back an article was released that said small business owners work the first 6 months to pay their taxes. The rest of the year covers the essentials. Where's the profit? I looked, but couldn't find the original article. So what does this have to do with JK?Here comes the tax man...

DA-I hope you didn't take my question as anything but curiosity.

My biggest burn on taxes is where they go. It REALLY ticks me off
to work hard and try to save in a country that seems to reward "failure".

JAM,

No problem at all. As I've said over and over, things I say are only opinions. I get a little testy with those who are so intransigent that they either don't realize that, or aren't interested in anyone's view but their own.

Umm actually:
39% of Republicans are college educated, while 23% of Dems are.

47% of Republicans make over $35,000, while 31% of Dems do.

12% of Reps are non-whites, 60% of dems are

It's something one of my professors (PhD from the Kennedy School of Government) is currently studying. I'm sure I've got some data on it somewhere but it's not like I sit on it.

I don't dispute Rudey's stats but if you look at overall household income in the Democratic party (by which I mean registered Dems) it's been actively rising and is also brought down my students.

Another thought I have, which is just conjecture, is that Democrats are much more likely to live in an urban area and thus may not own homes although they are wealthy.

Brought down by students? Not likely since the Democratic party tends to have less educated members. Face it.
