We are Theta Chi. We are called Theta Chis , in the proper gramatical context.
|
I dunno dogg, the Theta Chis have a cheer that goes "TC" "You Know", so that KINDA counts as a different nickname......TC....

AXiD670 - If you ever head up to Ohio, I know it's common there. The girls from chapters in Ohio are the ones I always hear saying it. |
We are trying to call ourselves Sig Delts more and more so that people use that instead of SDT because of the negative names that can come from that.

Also, I went to school in MI and they didn't call themselves Fuzzies. Ohio is sort of a weird place, though! ;) Sorry, I'm from MI, I have to make fun of Ohio! I think it's in our state constitution or something!! |

And actually I've never heard a brother say something like "I'm/he's a Phi Mu Alpha." In my experience, brothers always refer to themselves or other brothers as "Sinfonians," which isn't really a nickname -- it's really the proper, official term for a brother, dating back to before the Greek letters were formally added to the name and the Fraternity was simply The Sinfonia Fraternity (or sometimes "The Sinfonia"). To put it another way, in my experience, brothers would refer to the Fraternity as Phi Mu Alpha, but would not refer to themselves as Phi Mu Alphas, unless perhaps talking to someone who might get too confused by bringing in the whole "Sinfonian" terminology. But that's just my experience, and it is a big fraternity. [sidetrack]Back in the day, the campus mailboxes for Phi Mu and Phi Mu Alpha at my school were next to each other. Needless to say, we got each other's mail all the time.[/sidetrack] |

xo_kathy, our mascot is BetXi Bear. She was the one designed by Jim Henson for his wife. According to our nat'l website, "the Fraternity adopted Al Fuzzie teddy bear as a mascot in 1974. BetXi Bear mascot was adopted in 1989." But we've never had just a Fuzzie Bear. But you were close!!! I really don't know too much else about Al Fuzzie, what he looked like, etc. Just that there was one. Maybe that's where Fuzzie came from. Either way...I don't like it. It's fine for the bear's name...but PLEASE don't refer to me as a fuzzie. |
During recruitment, they explained that "fuzzies" came from the al-PHA XI...sounds like fuzzie. Kind of :p .
|
We are called SAE's mainly but some alum use Sig Alph's. The guys at my chapter call each other E's.
I hate to be an SAE and be called a SIG EP. That just shows someone's stupidity when they say that. "Oh, your a Sig Ep?" when i have on one of my SAE shirts. |
I don't mind Fuzzie- there are worse names out there. I only ever heard us called that when I was at convention with some girls from Ohio and Indiana.
Our new girls once tried to call them selves "Fozzies"- like Fozzie Bear- but it was only ever used internally and never really caught on. |
Most of the nicknames on campus are pretty typical...one that might be a little more unique is Sigma Chi...for some reason, people have just started (like I've heard it 20 times or so....), with in the past month, calling them Sigmachis - pronounced like: Sigmachees (Sig MA Chees) - emphasis on the ma. It sounds kinda funny. Not sure who started it or why...my guess is maybe a GDI making a funny mistake, but I'm not sure.

We call the Kappa Sigmas the Kappa Swigs sometimes. It's not a bad name...they just have the best parties! We love them.
|
For Beta Sigma Phi, I just say Betas (not to be confused with Beta Theta Pi :)
As far as Alpha Phi, The only ones I better hear are A-Phi, Phis or Alpha Phi |
While many of OUr Chapters go by Choppers, as seen on some of the sigs on Site, at The Pitt (Ks) we go by Lambda Chis!:)
Pike, Sig Chis. Sig Taus, Phi Sigs and used to be the Tekes. Alpha Gams, Alpha Sigs, and the changed Tri Sigmas! Used to have ADPis, DRhos, and KDs! Who cares as long as there are New Associates!:D |
Delta Zeta Xi- DXi

haha, I call my Sigma Chi friends Sig-ma-chees all the time :) I wouldnt use it other than joking around with them, though. |
preciousjeni's original post reminded me of something: Whenever I wear my badge, someone inevitably pokes at it and says "I didn't know you were Jewish." (We have Hebrew letters on our badge.) I usually say "I'm not, it's my sorority badge." "But you're Catholic, why are you in a Jewish sorority?" "I'm not." "But only Jewish people use Hebrew..." BLEAH.

One that I have heard differently from campus to campus is Pi Kappa Alpha. On some campuses, they're Pikes, on others, Pikas. They're Pikas at our school.
I've heard that Alpha Delta Pi is known as Alpha Delts, but for the most part, we're ADPi's. I think that there are nasty names for every GLO, but [high horse] I refuse to use them [/high horse]! ;) |
at my school...
Alpha Delta Pi = ADPis or Pis Alpha Phi = Phis Sigma Chi = Sigs Beta Theta Pi = Betas |
Delta Omicrons go almost exclusively by "DO" 's. (each letter said seperately, not the word "do" which often confuses our NMs.
We did recieve word from Inter/Nationals my senior year of college that "referring to Delta Omicron by anything less than her full name was not to be permitted", but.... yeah, that didn't take. :) That's a lot of syllables to yell out across campus :) On the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia thing... I went to school near GeekyPenguin, and the Sinfonians referred to themselves almost exclusively as "Phi Mu's". Occasionally you'd hear "Sinfonian", but that was rare. Phi Mu was the nickname they preferred. Other chapters on my campus (ie. what the chapters called themselves): Alpha Sigma: no nickname Delta Zeta: DeeZee's Sigma Sigma Sigma: Tri-Sigs (though I've since learned here that most chapters don't like this) Tau Phi Lambda: Tau Phi's Pi Kappa Alpha: Pikes Delta Chi: no nickname Lambda Chi Alpha: Lambda Chi's Phi Chi Epsilon: Phi Chi's Phi Sigma Kappa: Phi Sigs Tau Kappa Epsilon: Tekes |

Phi Sigma Sigma is Phi Sig... not much else we can be... although I know there's a fraternity that usues phi sig as well... but we dont' have them on campus... but people have told me "phi sig ??that's a fraternity" if they don't have Phi Sigma Sigma on campus... |
On my campus we have Phi Sigma Sigma and Phi Sigma Kappa.
To avoid confusion the girls go by Phi Sig and the guys go by Piskies. |
