I'm not sure how to feel about Valentine's Day this year.. I'm talking to a boy and he's coming to my Valentine's Day date party and I'm going to his date party this weekend but we're still "talking." That makes V-Day so awkward!

sigtau305 01-27-2005 12:30 PM

NO going out on Valentine's day for me. I'll be studying on that day.

chideltjen 01-27-2005 01:13 PM

Even with a boyfriend this time around, I don't think I will be celebrating any form of Valentine's Day... at least in the public eye. We both kinda hate the holiday and have had bad experiences with it when we were with other people. So we said "screw the Hallmark Crown, we're staying home."

Although it's been his single's tradition to get a Valencia Mocha from Starbucks every V-day. So this year I'll probably join him.

KSig RC 01-27-2005 02:04 PM

I hate VD - I can't believe iron mike gave it to that girl

Coramoor 01-27-2005 02:13 PM

Get drunk and find that special someone.

We usually have a Valentine's Day Bar crawl, and if you go in single you usually at least won't go home alone.

I hear that. I don't know weather to ignore the damn day and pretend I forgot or actually do something nice. It's always hard to decide when you start 'talking' to someone around the holidays or their birthday...

Christmas is probably the worst holiday to hook up right before... but I digress...

Yeah it's gonna be like 3 weeks that we've been "talking" around Valentine's Day, and we keep half having a relationship talk. So who knows what should happen with that.

I've bought a gift before when I'm unsure of status with a boy and only given it to the guy if he gives me one, haha. Looks like it'll be another year of that.

AchtungBaby80 01-27-2005 05:51 PM

I like to make things simple and not celebrate Valentine's Day. The only thing good about it are the Reese's Peanut Butter hearts. :) Those are yummy!

AlphaFrog 01-27-2005 06:37 PM

Getting started a little early this year, are we?

Dia de San Valentino is celebrated in Mexico, but you'd never know with my husband:rolleyes: Looks like it'll be another night of sending hom off to shop with my dad... Or maybe I'll just let him figure it out, and if he doesn't get me anything, then I don't have to get him anything for his birthday 3 days later, HA! (It may sound mean, but the only reason that I got anything for my birthday is because I sent him out the night before..my dad just had to take him to the store to "show him something")

Someone said before the Valentine's day is the best day to be single at a bar... because you know everyone else is single at the bar too.

That being said... I've been on 4-5 dates with one boy already.... I'm not expecting I'll be seeing him on Valentines day (no counting of chickens before eggs are hatched). But.. if we are....I dont' really want to do anything. bleh. Can't I pretend I have a big project due the next day?

Buttonz 01-28-2005 09:27 PM

This is the first time I've had someone for V-Day. We will probably do soemthing small and small gifts at his house...or he might suprise me and do somethign crazy....who knows?

Rio_Kohitsuji 01-28-2005 11:27 PM

Well, I personally really do like V-Day :D

We're even giving our pledges the "night off" that day so they can spend it w/their boyfriends, or at least get one that day, heh. I'm sending out flowers to all my sisters and the pledges that day...and they are going to be sent to their class...:p

Wine&SilverBlue 01-29-2005 04:16 PM

I'm actually looking forward to V-day this year... I never really had an exciting v-day in the past.

freshman year of hs? I broke up with my first bf 2 days before v-day, because we both knew we were "just friends" with a title at that point, and I didn't want to fake it through v-day and THEN dump him. V-day was pretty awkward...

Freshman year of college? My bf had a bball game that night, so we went to one of the dining halls on campus before the game (oooh romantic!) and it turns out it was CLOSED because of a special pre-paid fancy dinner the school was offering there. we ended up having to eat from the pre-made mini mart type food (a la: fruit salad, nilla wafers, side salads) and then go to his game... oops. its funny to look back on now, but boy did that suck!

soph year of college? same bf, but this year he was out of town for vday. I ended up going to Macaroni Grill with a friend whose bf was also away for bball, and despite the 2 hour wait (which we spent shopping at Target next door lol) I definitely had fun with the whole girl's night out thing.

This year v-day is on a Monday so my bf will actually be in town!!! wooohoo! although we have our exec meetings on Monday nights so I don't really know what we'll end up doing...

I remember soph year in HS my best girls friends and I decided to get eachother roses... but it ended up being embarrassing when people would ask us who they were from and we said our girl friends... oh well

Susan_Renee 01-30-2005 12:35 AM

Well, unless I end up with a date for V-day, (which I highly doubt will happen) I plan to spend it with a bunch of my single friends and a very special man...Jose Cuervo. :) The best way to spend V-day when you're single is by getting drunk with other single friehds. At least that's my opinion.

RUgreek 01-30-2005 02:20 AM

Even when I was dating someone, we mutually agreed not to observe V-day. It's a crappy holiday when you're single, and it's a lame excuse to buy hallmark cards one more day a year. So I banned it and never really associated with anything exciting except for the Valentine's Day massacre. 'Bout the only thing historical worth noting with this holiday.

Maybe I'll take a lonely girl out this year to brighten her winter. Eh, it's just not something I'll have any emotion for...

BetteDavisEyes 01-31-2005 11:04 AM

Someone Einstein insisted that we hold meeting on this night so it looks like most of our girls will be ditching meeting. Can't blame them. As for me, I've never been a huge fan of this day either. My fiancee & I just re-new our Disneyland passports. Sometime we'll actually go out to dinner at a place where couples won't be all mushy & stupid. We like Tequila Jack's, Ruby's Diner, & places like this.

01-31-2005 03:34 PM

Not sure yet if I hate V-Day or not this year. I usually hate it but I'm at the weird stage w/I have no idea what is going on w/me and a boy. DRAMA from this weekend may lead me to HATE V-day this year!

XOMichelle 02-01-2005 12:44 PM

I found a solution to my v-day problems: I agreed to teach an MCAT class that evening. :D Nice. Now I can avoid an awkwardly sappy day that ends with a DTR talk.

EPTriSigma 02-01-2005 05:33 PM

We are having an I Hate Valentines Party! It is going to be great. Single people unite.

GPhiLlama 02-01-2005 07:05 PM

I'm performing in the Vagina Monologues and then I have a double date with my good friends Ben and Jerry. :D

BetteDavisEyes 02-02-2005 10:37 AM

I hate it when girls go to class with their flowers, balloons, & tedd bears. I always feel like telling them that high school is over & stuff like that should be delievered at home or given when they are not at school.

XOMichelle 02-02-2005 12:10 PM

For my birthday once in HS my boyfriend had someone in each class give me a rose, and then he delivered one to me himself at the end of the day. I had no choice but to carry them around. It was quite adorable, clearly he put a lot of thought into the gift.

AOtke1110 02-03-2005 05:17 PM

Vday

Just last year we started our Anti-Valentines day boat racing tournament. It turned out to be one of the better parties of the year. I mean how can you beat a night of lots of singles drinking heavily while celebrating the fact that they hate being single. ;) Totally looking forward to is this year especially since yet agian i will be unattached on that awful day.

GreekLove 02-03-2005 11:17 PM

The only exciting thing about Valentine's Day for me this year will be that it is my lil sis's birthday....Other than that, I would prefer to skip this holiday! :D

PennyCarter 02-04-2005 11:26 AM

I hate it, I just hate it. There's so much hype that we all set ourselves up for let down. I have NEVER had a good valentine's...possibly the only good one was in high school when my friend's boyfriend (also a friend of mine) knew how much I hated the holiday so he brought me flowers too! HAHAHA, not even my own boyfriend.

This will be my third Valentine's with my boyfriend now. The first one, we both worked and we'd just started dating so he didn't know my address so i didn't get my flowers for weeks...but I did get 4 does roses and they were gorgeous...he was still romantic then.

Last year, he moved 8 hours away from me the weekend of vday b/c of his job--yuck! I was going to go out with my friend b/c her hubby had to work, then he suprised her by getting off, so me I was all alone AND Valentine's was on a Saturday--that's the worst.

This year, I'm not expecting it to be good, at least its on a Monday so we can all kinda ignore it. My boyfriend just got sent out of town for business, just for 2 weeks, but that conveniently covers valentine's.

I don't mind not having great days, I just wish there wasn't so much hype becuase all the media makes us want a romantic night and it rarely happens :(

Sorry, this is way negative, its been a bad week!

_Opi_ 02-04-2005 04:11 PM

The holiday is quite annoying....

However, It is a good excuse to party!!

Oh and its not so bad gettin' roses and chocolate either!

chideltjen 02-04-2005 06:52 PM

I don't know why I just remembered this but I had a really bad V-day 2 years ago. I went in for oral surgery. No bf at the time so it didn't matter, but being at the dentist on ANY holiday just makes it ten times worse.

And I HATED those girls in high school that had their doting boyfriends bring them large balloon bouquets and stuffed animals and such. They just got in the way in the halls and forget it if you had a locker below one of them.

DolphinChicaDDD 02-06-2005 12:15 AM

i have work.
then, i'll be sitting in class. from 5-11pm.

all the while, thinking about how miserable i am and lacking a boyfriend.

nice.
i'm very excited and can't wait.

qteasied 02-07-2005 03:33 AM

I was really looking forward to doing nothing for V-Day, but this girl I know signed up for speed dating at my school. I told her that I'd hang out with her more often. I guess we can talk crap about the losers we get set up with. I feel like a loser for speed dating, but it's an experience. Whatever.

Basically, we'd speed date on the 10th, and get a free dinner on V-Day with our "matches."

Why???

I've always hated V-Day.

Speed dating isn't loserific. One of my sisters met her boyfriend of like a year or something doing one of those speed dating things. I've heard there are tons of different kinds of people there.

So nothing beats your sorority deciding to have a Grab a Date on V-day. (Grab a date is where we substitute a chapter meeting and go do something fun, while inviting a "date") So, guess who won't be going and now won't have anything to do on V-Day? Yeah. Sweet.

tunatartare 02-08-2005 03:13 AM

The only good thing about Valentine's Day is that this year it falls on the day that we usually have meetings, and seeing as so many of my sisters have boyfriends, the president decided to just cancel the meeting, because otherwise there would only be like 3 girls there, myself being one of them.

axidhawkeye 02-08-2005 01:35 PM

last year we had a sisterhood......celebrating singles awareness day, for those of us who were unattached, watching cheesy movies and eating too much food.

this year, i don't know what's going on, haven't thought that far ahead. i think a bar crawl might be in order.

sailorchicDG 02-09-2005 05:49 PM

I was walkin through campus Monday and there was a table set up selling gifts for V-day. One of the table girls asked me if I wanted to buy something for "your special someone"... I looked at her and said : "I don't have a special someone, thanks." I didn't mean for it to sound bitchy but, I think she took it that way. Oh, well...

BearyCuteAPhi 02-09-2005 06:01 PM

I feel ya...

This is the first Valentine's Day in the past 6 yrs that I do not have a "someone special". Actually my cousin and I are going to hang out, she is like my bestfriend right now, so we won't be alone and sad....we'll probably be drunk and happy...J/K :p
