It's rewarding in so many ways. Alumnae involvement gives you the opportunity to pass along the experience to collegiate members, and connect with others who share the love, passion and commitment to the Fraternity.

your GLO: Kappa Alpha Theta
how long you've been a member: joined fall of 1997, alum since Dec of '01
how active an alum you've been: aft first I just helped out with things like Formal Recruitment, since then I've become an adviser for my chapter. I currently advise the VP Development, Ritualist, Social and Service Chairs. Also I recently became the secretary of the Alum Organization that was established on our campus to provide further support to the Greek Community.
why you come to GC: for ideas and to interact with other alums, I haven't been posting too much yet though
what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active: I firmly believe that you get out of things what you put into them. I got a lot out of my chapter during my college days. I think by contributing back to the chapter I can help women get more out of their experience.

I LOVE my GLO! Always have. My mom is a ZTA (Beta Psi!) and used to sing Zeta songs to me as a baby. I still enjoy knowing what's going on and keeping in touch with everyone.

-anything else you care to share: I am proud to be a Greek and proud to be an Alpha Delta Pi. I encourage everyone to give this experience a try. Greek Life, both on the collegiate and alumnae/alumni level is a rewarding and life-enriching experience.

-how active an alum you've been: Life Loyal (i.e. alumni dues paid in full); however, more "paper" than "active".

-why you come to GC: I happened to come across this site and then had a specific question and joined. Now, having been "out of the loop" for a while, I come back to keep current and hear what is up "with the kids".

-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active: The ideals of Friendship, Justice and Learning. Of the three, having brothers as friends for life is closest to my heart.

-anything else you care to share: All in the family - my brothers are brothers too.

-your GLO: Pi Kappa Alpha

-how long you've been a member: I was initiated on April 4, 1998 by the Kappa Epsilon Chapter which was chartered in 1994.

-how active an alum you've been: Incredibly active. In March, 2003, I became the President of our Alumni Association. This fall, our chapter at the Univ. of Texas at Arlington (where I work) is being recolonized and I will be very involved in that process. I also give to our Educational Foundation each year and attend regional and international conferences.

-why you come to GC: I came to meet people and to learn about their experiences as Greeks. One of the things I've taken away is a stronger understanding of how to stay involved as I become an older alum.

-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active: This is simple...Once a Pike, Always a Pike. This axiom seems so simple but really it encapsulates exactly why I remain active. I live 500 miles away from my campus but barely a day goes by when I don't receive a phone call or an e-mail from a brother. This excites me and invigorates me to work even harder to advance PiKA.

Your GLO Phi Sigma Sigma

How long you've been a member
Initiated Fall 1998; alum since Spring 2001

How active an alum you've been

as active as I can be, although can't wait to be more active. Right after graduation i joined my chapter's advisory board as recruitment advisor. I also joined the Alumnae chapter and was a member of its executive board. Last summer I stepped up into the role of Chapter Key Advisor. The alum chapter has fizzled out so I'm trying to start an alum interest group. I am also the Delta Epsilon Alumnae Association Liaison - meaning I'm in charge of an e-newsletter for my chapter.

Why you come to GC
basically to get in touch with other Phi Sigs. Also like reading ppls stories since greek life is so different on every campus. I've learned a lot on GC.

What you still enjoy about your GLO

I like everything. I really have internalized our core values and believe in them. I like watching how the chapter changes from year to year and how they grow. I enjoy how we are so progressive and how I can see the great changes going on.

Oh and I like Sphinxes.

Anything else you care to share

I really hope to continue volunteering in the future and moving on up...I'm afraid that after grad school i'll have to move out of the region for a job (which i am looking forward to traveling) so I won't be able to stay on as advisor....

I also just wrote a proposal for constitutional change - just a small thing changing "national" to "international" throughout our constitution...not a big deal but makes me feel like i'm taking action.

ALPHA GAMMA DELTA
Celebrating a Century of Sisterhood this year!!

-how long you've been a member

PLEDGED 1990--INITIATED JANUARY, 1991

-how active an alum you've been

MY INVOLVEMENT HAS NOT BEEN AS ACTIVE AS I WOULD LIKE..ALUM EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ADVISER; ALUM CHAPTER PRESIDENT; GENERAL ALUM SUPPORT FOR RUSH, ETC.

MOVED AWAY FROM ALPHA GAM CHAPTER IN 1999...6 HOURS AWAY FROM CHAPTER :( I MISS ALPHA GAM!

AS AN UNDERGRAD SERVED AS PLEDGE CLASS PRESIDENT; SCRIBE; ASST. TREASURER; TREASURER AND PANHELLENIC DELEGATE.

FORMER ORDER OF OMEGA PRESIDENT AS WELL.

-why you come to GC

I AM A LURKER, BUT I DO LIKE TO COME OUT AND CHAT ONCE AND A WHILE. :) THE ALPHA GAMS (AND THE BETA SIGMA PHIS TOO) ON GC ARE GREAT! I LOVE THE OTHER MEMBERS OF FELLOW GLOS AND GC HAS HELPED ME EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT THE TRENDS, CHANGES, CONCERNS AND CHALLENGES THAT GREEKS ARE CURRENTLY FACING.

-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active

MY LIFE HAS NOW SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO START TO DEVOTE MYSELF TO ALPHA GAM AGAIN, AS WELL AS TO THE PANHELLENIC COMMUNITY IN GENERAL. I AM PROUD TO BE ONE OF THE GLO MEMBERS ATTEMPTING TO GET AN ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC STARTED IN THE SOUTH PUGET SOUND, WA, AREA (TACOMA/OLYMPIA).

MY RELATIONSHIPS WITH MY SISTERS ARE WONDERFUL...MY BEST FRIEND FOR LIFE IS MY PLEDGE SISTER.

IN ADDITION TO MY SISTERS, ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT I COULD HAVE EVER HAD HAPPEN WAS BEING NOMINATED AND ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF PANHELLENIC DELEGATE. IT WAS SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE TO WORK WITH ALL THE IFC AND PANHELL MEMBERS ON CAMPUS.

I AM PROUD TO BE AN ALPHA GAM AND A GREEK WOMAN!!

-anything else you care to share

ALPHA GAMMA DELTA HAS GIVEN ME A "CAN-DO" ATTITUDE. WE HAVE A PURPOSE THAT IS PART OF OUR PUBLIC PROFILE, BUT THE PURPOSE IS VERY SPECIAL TO ALPHA GAMS. IF YOU HONESTLY MAKE AN ENDEAVOR TO MODEL YOUR LIFE AFTER THE PURPOSE, YOU WILL BE A WOMAN OF HIGH IDEALS AND ATTAINMENTS IN WHATEVER PATHS YOU MAY CHOOSE.

ALL PARTS OF THE PURPOSE ARE NEAR AND DEAR TO ME, BUT THE FAVORITE PART THAT I HAVE TRIED TO HEAVILY APPLY TO MY LIFE IS "TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORLD'S WORK IN THE COMMUNITY WHERE I AM PLACED BECAUSE OF THE JOY OF SERVICE THEREBY BESTOWED AND THE CHALLENGE OF LEADERSHIP MULTIPLIED".

EVEN THOUGH I HAVEN'T BEEN ACTIVE IN ALPHA GAM IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE APPLIED MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PURPOSE TO OTHER AREAS IN MY LIFE NEAR AND DEAR-- MY CHILDRENS' LIVES AND ACTIVITIES, SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND SERVICE TO MY COUNTRY.

GODSPEED TO ALL OF YOU--GC IS A WONDERFUL ONLINE COMMUNITY!!

I am an alumna of Phi Mu. I have been a Phi Mu for 8 years and have loved EVERY moment of it.

As an alum I serve as Chapter Adviser for my collegiate chapter (for 2 and a half years), I am the President of my local alumnae chapter ( in my 2nd term ), and I just recently got the Chapter Association for my collegiate chapter organized and up and running!!!

I must admit that I am SO addicted to GC. I come here often trying to keep up to date on GLO happenings. I also like to get info to use in educating the collegians in areas of Risk Management, etc. And besides it is just plain entertaining!!!!

As a Phi Mu collegian I can not even begin to explain what a great experience that was for me...it helped me to grow so much!!! As an alum I feel that it is not a question for me if I should remain active or not. I try to give back to Phi Mu as much as I can since it gave so much to me as a collegian! Phi Mu has truly given me a lifetime of memories!!!!
And a little on the selfish side...I am also remaining active so that I can keep Phi Mu alive for my little legacy!!!!
I love being Greek. I love everything that Greeks stand for. I know that Greeks get a bad rep from time to time for various reasons but the benefits certainly outway the that. Hopefully if we all work together the Greek system will continue for a long, long, long time!!!!

Pledged and initiated in 1994

I'm an active alum in our local group and am getting ready to assist with the new Pi Phi colony at NC State this fall.

I enjoy GC because it's great to see so many ideas and opinions and keep up with what is happening in the greek system all over the country.

I loved being an active Pi Phi because of all my great sisters, and have found that being an alum is just as great an experience. I still enjoy meeting new sisters and working with actives. It's great to have that sort of connection with someone you just met and such a network of great women all over the place!

However, recent events have gotten me back in touch with the chapter, and I expect to be EXTREMELY active in the next year.

-why you come to GC: Originally to seek advice to approach the actives to see if they needed help. Now just to meet others who joined GLO's of all sorts.

-your GLO
-how long you've been a member
-how active an alum you've been
-why you come to GC
-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active
-anything else you care to share

I'll post my info separately. . .

I am a DELTA GAMMA !!
I pledged the Eta Chapter at The University of Akron in the Fall of 1999. I have been a member for almost 5 years and recently became an Alumna in December.

I have not been very active as an Alum because I am currently student teaching, however, aside from attending events such as Anchorsplash, Songfest, and our 125th Anniversary Founder's Day at my chapter, I have been busy helping with the colonization and recruitment of our most recent chapter Theta Beta at Case Western Reserve University. I am also still President of Order of Omega on campus since I am still a student and I graduate in 2 weeks!

I originally came upon GC just surfing the net, so I came to GC just to get some feedback on questions and so on. Now....I come to GC many times a day to satisfy my addiction to recruitment threads, chit chat boards, AI threads, and whatever else comes up. It is now part of my normal routine.....everytime I check my email....I check GC....

I still enjoy everything about my GLO. I miss many things about being a collegian but there are also those things that I don't miss about being collegian. I plan on staying active in the alum group and eventually hope to get involved with Nationals as well. I will most likely become an advisor at some point, but as for right now I am enjoying the time off and the ability to break away from the hectic schedule that I had all throughout college.

My reasons why I love GC:
~the overwhelming sense of Panhellenicism.
~always knowing that you will get an honest answer.
~the friendships I've made with my Delta Gamma GC sisters.
~the support that is given from everyone on GC.
~getting to know people by reading their posts.
~and most of all......
all of those who make GC what it is......a wonderful place to go!

My GLO: Alpha Phi

Joined: Fall 2000. Initiated 11/4/00. Alumna as of April 29, 2004.

How active I've been as an alumna: Well, since it's only been a few months, I haven't been able to do a whole lot, but I have helped my chapter out with Recruitment this semester, and we're supposed to be re-starting the Space Coast alumnae chapter. I'm very excited about this and I'm willing to help out as an exec member if they need me.

Why I come to GC: I'm a message board addict, but I also love being Greek in general. I think GC has increased my respect of other organizations.

What I still enjoy about my GLO (why I'm still active): Upon hearing our Ritual for the first time, I realized how many of the things we talked about were close to my own heart. I like to say that I turn to God to make me a better person, and I turn to Alpha Phi to make me a better woman. The friendships I formed in 4 years of Alpha Phi will last me a lifetime, and I know I'll make many more along the way!

Initiated into the Zeta Eta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi in May 6, 2002; graduated in December 2003

I'm a member of the Tennessee Valley Alumni Association of ADPi, and currently serve as the Vice President of Membership. Although I live 2 hours away from my chapter, I still find time to help out with donations and teaching workshops with Zeta Eta.

I honestly can't remember how I found GC in the firstplace, but now, I'm loving meeting more ADPi's from around the country, as well as other GLO members too. I love the discussions/information that is available here...... So many different, valid opinions----it's very educational!

Alpha Delta Pi is my home. It's where everybody knows me, and loves me. It's a place that I can give back, yet receive just as easily. It's where I've found my closest friends. It's where I'm challenged, where I can be creative, and so many other things. Alpha Delta Pi is how "We Live for Each Other".

How active an alum I've been: Honestly, not very. I keep meaning to get more involved, and I keep not doing it...

Why GC: I tripped over GC randomly while surfing the net a few years ago, and was soon hooked. I've learned so much about other orgs, especially those that aren't represented at my alma mater. Plus I'm a rush thread addict :)

What I enjoy about my GLO: Most of my sisters are great people. I love the ritual and what AEPhi stands for.

Alum poll

I'm a sister of Theta Phi Alpha, pledged Fall 1982, initiated January 1983 into Kappa Chapter at University of Pittsburgh. I'm currently on the national Chapter Development team and working on the History Project for our national centennial in 2012. I'm a member of our Northern New Jersey Alumni Association.

In my collegian days, I was also a Pi Lambda Phi Little Sister, a Pi Lam sweetheart (at Pitt), and a Beta Theta Pi sweetheart (at Penn).

I just recently found out about GC through a couple of my sisters! I checked it out and it seemed pretty cool, so I signed up.

I like being involved in my GLO. I like meeting sisters from all eras. Even though we may be from different years and different chapters, there's a bond that transcends everything. I hope that when my sons go to college, they will look into the Greek life and find an organization that supports their values and interests, just like I did when I found Theta Phi Alpha.

When I pledged, I learned that being a sister was "Not four years, but a lifetime." That's important to me. I truly believe that all Theta Phis - past, present, and future - are my sisters in every way, shape and form.

-how active an alum you've been: semi-active after 1977 graduation (my ex wasn't big on the Greek thing), very active since 1994 (member of alumni boards @ alma mater & Northwestern, alumni advisor to VP's & Alumni Secretary, working w/LCA's Alumni Development Committee)

-why you come to GC: to learn other people's perspectives. NIC, NPC, NPHC, NALFO, it doesn't matter...we're all brothers & sisters together.

-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active: It was the first place I was truly accepted for being myself. It was also a place I could be part of a team, which was something I was used to since I'd been involved w/interscholastic athletics from junior high through HS. Now I can offer insights to the UG's because of that "real world experience" thing...

-anything else you care to share: "Living the Ritual" is spoken of a lot, but it's tough to do. In addition, GDI's can make fun of us, call us sheep, etc.--however, working on committees or holding an office is excellent preparation for post-grad life. Whether it's Church Council, your village board or the PTO, knowing the Robert's Rules definitely help.

How active an alum you've been
After attending my first Convention as a collegian in 2001, I made sure I stayed involved as much as I could after I went through Senior Rededication. Since going alum, I've served as Editor of the newsletter for the Hawaii Alumnae Chapter, Campus Relations Advisor for the Delta Sigma collegians; volunteered my services for many a recruitment event, and have been to every Initiation, Feast of Roses, and International Reunion Day.

Why you come to GC
I found this board a few months after I was initiated into my chapter. I've met tons of my sisters IRL, not to mention members of other organizations through my travels. How could I *NOT* come to GC?

What you still enjoy about your GLO? Why are you active?
I love it how the sisterhood I felt within my chapter has now expanded into something global. Whenever I'm having a crappy day, I know that there is someone in LA, Boston, Tennessee, or even Canada who will be willing to put up with me!

I look at the collegians and I'm proud of them. I know I'd be missing out if I didn't give back to AGD what she's given to me in these past few years.

Why I came to GC I stummbled onto GC while looking for t-shirt slogans, lurked around for a bit, and then joined. It just seemed like a great community for ideas and sharing thoughts across the county.
What I enjoy about my GLO/Why I'm active I truely love the sisterhood that spans everything. I never really realized it until I went to my first alum meeting and it hit me while I was talking to one of my Golden Circle sisters (a sister who been been in the sorority for years). I would have never known her, or any of the other wonderful women from the alum chapter if it wasn't for her. A few of my sisters and I were shopping in Del when we ran into Tri Delts from another chapter, who we had never meet before....but we all ended up having lunch together. Not to mention how much I love going back and seeing the chapter I founded flourish.
I think most of all, I secretly am such a NPC Dork that one of these days when I have more time on my hands, I would like to volunteer for my fraternity or the NPC. Actually, I would love to be Tri Delta's delegate to the NPC. Guess, its not so much of a secret anymore!:p

~How Active of an Alum~
I'm working on becoming a key alumna for Scotland (keeping track of alumnae over here and maybe trying to organise a meet-up day or something). It's more difficult when you're overseas, but I want to try to be as helpful as I can to the national organisation.

~Why on GC~
I found Greekchat soon after I joined and have stayed on as an alum because it's a great way to stay connected to the greek community, especially while I'm across the pond. :D

~What you still enjoy about your GLO? Why still active?~
I love my sisterhood and everything it stands for. High standards of conduct, strong womanly character and perpetual bonds of friendship are great life lessons for any woman. I know Sigma helped me get where I am today - a postgrad at a prestigious university - and I really wanted to help perpetuate the sisterhood for future generations. Yeah, some people may see sororities as old-fashioned, but I think they're actually really forward thinking, helping high-achieving young women grow as leaders, scholars and in their own lives. :) I have this vision of myself as one of the little old alums at convention with blue hair and sensible shoes - I think it's really brilliant to see that kind of dedication in people and I hope I will be able to portray that in my love for my sorority :D

My GLO: Alpha Sigma Tau

Joined: Spring 2001.
Initated: 4/8/2001.
Alumna as of 5/6/2004.

How active I've been as an alumna: Since I graduated in May, I haven't been able to do much. To top it off, I moved to a town with a collegiate chapter who don't want my help. :( The nearest alumnae chapter is in Philadelphia (about 25 minutes away from my home.) They seem to be a little hesitant to allow more recent alumnae join the club. Hopefully, I will be able to become more active.

Why I come to GC: I'm addicted to the message boards!

What I still enjoy about my GLO (why I'm still active): I enjoy many of the friendships that I made during my time as a collegian.

EagleChick, that is to sad to even hear about.:(

It just makes me wonder how close the feeling is among the Sisters of your Sorority AST.:o

You can only try to do what you can do. Maybe meeting one or two will help them to get to know you? Maybe they will find out what a neat person you are!!!!!

-your GLO

Delta Phi Epsilon
Alpha Gamma Chapter

-how long you've been a member

Initiated on November 17, 2000
Graduated/Went Alum on December 17, 2005

-how active an alum you've been

Instantly joined the D Phi E South Florida Alumnae Association (and am now the Miami-Dade County Coordinator), volunteer for the international office as a Membership Development Advisor for 8 chapters in my region, attend all alumnae events hosted by my collegiate chapter, & assist in recruitment (but then again, who doesn’t!).

-why you came to GC

I stumbled upon GC one day as I was searching for Greek merchandise websites in order to purchase items for my little sister... I instantly got HOOKED. I could NOT believe the wealth of information on any and all topics affecting Greeks that I could bring back to my chapter.

-what you still enjoy about your GLO/why you're active

D Phi E has changed me and will forever be a part of who I am... I strive for D Phi E because I hope that years from now, other women will have the same opportunity to experience and benefit from this organization and sisterhood, as I have.

-anything else you care to share

Just wanted to thank each and every one of you who continue to strive and believe in your organizations… sometimes its tough as an “adult” to find time to give back… I have learned A LOT from ALL of you!
