yeah, it sounds like you had a blast....

I can't wait to hear about your invited.

Manda, GC is probably the MOST panhellenically minded community you'll ever see! And if "rush silence" applied to the internet, GC would have to shut down for around 4 weeks twice a year to meet every school's formal rush & informal rush schedules.

That said, great to hear you had such a good time. I have some questions though....

(1) What do you want out of a sorority? I'm just curious -- some girls join to meet other girls, some girls want the tradition, some want the additional help with school, some want a more robust social life. There's as many reasons as there are sorority members, I think. :)

(2) Did you have a favorite sorority in mind going into rush?

(3) Have any of the sororities surprised you so far?

(4) Any theories yet on which houses your Rho Deltas are from?

(5) What did you mean by saying the one group was "out of your reach"? The only meaning I could figure out is that you felt like the girls wouldn't list you for their return parties. Is that what you meant?

Hey :),

1. A little of everything (philanthropy, tradition, social). BUT, I was initially interested in the unity of it and how its such a friendly, close-knit atmosphere.

2. Coming in I was a little partial to DZ and ZTA, but I'm trying to be really open-minded and I've been suprised a lot today...

3....Such as with AST, I knew the least about them coming in, but they are a really awesome group of girls, they were a nice suprise.

4. My Rho Deltas LOVE that game, they have us write down what sororities we think they're from every time we meet with them. I'm thinking...ASA and ZTA, but a lot of people are saying DZ and Tri-Sig too. They sit and giggle at the results.

5. I don't necessarily think they'll cut me, but I meant that I can adapt to a group of girls in general, but with this group it seems like they're all very different from me. So, its a bit unlikely that I would be able to mesh with them as closely as with some of the other groups. I didn't mean it like they're too good for me, just different, but still in a good way.

mandy...
you just keep going and smiling...
everything should end up well.

Mandelion 01-17-2004 11:44 PM

*UPDATE*

I was dropped from Capricorn, but invited to the other 6 groups for tomorrow (Waters/Philanthropy).

This really couldn't have worked out better, Capricorn was the one I eventually decided on dropping, if I had to ^_^.

I'm happy with the results. I'll check back tomorrow.:D

TriDeltaGal 01-18-2004 12:24 AM

Thanks everyone..
..And by the way...

Details on Spring Rush

Today:
What to Expect: In this round you will get the opportunity to learn about the sorority’s philanthropy. Each sorority puts on fundraisers every year to earn money for their philanthropy. In this party, you will get to make a craft that will be donated to help the sororities’ individual cause. This is one of the best parties because it is so close to our hearts and you leave feeling good that you have done something for someone else. At this party, you will receive information on the financial responsibilities of membership. You will attend up to six Waters parties which last thirty minutes.

Mandelion 01-18-2004 07:48 PM

End of the second round...

Waters is Over :)
I went back to 6 groups...

Aries: It was a little harder to talk to these girls today. It was a cute project, but they didn't seem very interested in talking about the philanthropy, and I wanted to. They didn't seem as touched by raising money for their charity as some of the other groups.

Pices: They had a very cute way of showing off their philanthropy, they weren't the easiest to talk to today, but it may have just been my greeter because I was with her the entire time, as opposed to yesterday when I met a lot of girls.

Aquarius: I had a very nice time with these girls today! I felt really comfortable talking about myself, and they had wonderful things to say about their philanthropy. They had an adorable theme as well.

Virgo: I loved these girls today, once they got past "business as usual" we talked about everything. Their involvement with their philanthropy is amazing, and they all showed a genuine dedication to it. A lot of girls remembered me, and I felt very welcome.

Leo: This group was a little disappointing today, when I asked various questions about their philanthropy they didn't know very much, and gave me short answers. There were a few times where it was not at all easy to talk to them and it got awkward.

Sagittarius: This was a very touching group. Their involvment with their charity came across on a very personal level, and that was really nice. It was a little harder to talk to them than yesterday, but we were also busy with the crafts, so its hard to say.

Results: Tuesday night.

Good luck tonight.

I thought it was going to be torture!! But, yesterday went by smoothly, and tonight I get some results!! Its not that bad, AND it splits up the week :). My next event isn't until Friday...assuming I'm not cut from all 6 groups tonight. (Trying desperately not to get ahead of myself).

lil_princess05 01-20-2004 07:14 PM

GOOD LUCK!
informal rush starts tonight at 6 on my campus... so I hope everything goes well!!
Now, I'm getting nervous!! (Anxious) excited... etc.! YAY!

rainbowbrightCS 01-20-2004 07:43 PM

well you have about 2 hours before you have to meet up with your Rho Delta (that is what your school calls it right). Do you know how long you have to be with her? So I know about when I can find out where you are going too...

Sending good vibes your way.

Yep, thats what we call them ^_^. It should only take about 20 minutes, theres no reason I shouldn't be back by 9. There are only 5 girls in my rush group, and I'm the third one she talks to. So, unless its particularly traumatic for me or someone else in my group, it should be an easy evening.

pirepresent 01-20-2004 08:13 PM

Good luck tonight!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

And can I ask, why Rho Delta?

Rho Chi I get, because it's Recruitment Counselor, but what is RD for?

You know, I have NO idea, I heard them talking about how it used to be Rho Chi, but not why it was changed..

Let me check my handbook..
OH!
A Rho Delta is…A Recruitment Director...
That must be what they meant, it implies that you'll need less couseling maybe? And more directing? So far thats what they've been mostly doing. Not that they aren't ready and more than willing to listen when you need it :)

Sister Havana 01-20-2004 08:24 PM

Good luck! Hope the news is good! :D

EtaPhiZTA 01-20-2004 08:34 PM

I am so excited for you. Philanthropy Night was always one of my favorite days. It sounds like you have a wonderful group of sororities at your university! Good luck tonight!:)

PKTKKG 01-20-2004 10:02 PM

Can't wait to hear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Mandelion 01-20-2004 10:30 PM

*UPDATE*

I was invited back to:

Leo
Aries
Pices

Thats a little disappointing to be honest, but I can't help but wonder if its for a good reason, and that one of them may really be my home...

Two more parties to find out..

TriDeltaGal 01-20-2004 11:45 PM

I know been cut harshly by houses can sting but just look at it this way... those three houses liked you enough to keep you while they cut many other girls and other PNMs might not have been so lucky to have three houses keep them. Those three houses saw something amazing in you and could potentially see you as a sister. I know it will all work out... good luck and just know you have so many of us rooting for you and sending you good vibes!

Jill1228 01-21-2004 12:04 AM

I think you did pretty damn good! The next round is going to UP TO 4 houses. 3 out of 4 ain't bad, IMO!

Xylochick216 01-21-2004 12:07 AM

congrats on getting 3 houses! Like everyone else said, 3 out of 4 is REALLY good! And this means you get a break in there somewhere:)
