How could it be a JOKE that got out of hand when they went to get married and had to leave to get a marriage license first...and THEN proceeded to get married. A joke would have been trying to get married and let the press have a hay day with it. But going out of your way to get the actual marriage license and then doing it - that's not a joke. There's some thought that goes into that

smiley21 01-05-2004 02:09 AM

it has just been reported that the marriage will be officially annuled tomorrow.

SunnyGirl483 01-05-2004 02:40 AM

Britney's Wedding...hell yeah!

I for one am a huge fan of Brit and I think its awesome that she was married in Vegas!! How many people are lucky enough to marry a childhood friend for the weekend? I would totally marry one of my childhood friends (Adam) in Vegas if I could! Now she can say that was married at least once, and because an anullment will take place, he is not legally entitled to her fortune. Way to party like a RockStar!

juniorgrrl 01-05-2004 02:41 AM

Heh. A guy in my class is a friend of her family. I'm sure he knows her "husband," too. The area where she's from is so small, and is so near where I am, everyone plays 6 degrees of Britney all the time.

Shame her cousin Laura Lynne couldn't be there and be maid of honor - she had to be in NOLA to dance as a golden girl. ;)

rayray 01-05-2004 03:03 AM

ROCK ON SunnyGirl!!! I'm totally with ya!

Um, lucky? Don't think so.

I think it's tacky and shameful how she's made a mockery of marriage. Sure kids, it's coooooool to make commitment a joke.

my thoughts exactly.

kddani 01-05-2004 11:34 AM

She can say she was married at least once??????

I thought the ideal was married ONLY once.....

I understand with today's world things aren't quite the norm anymore, but making a mockery out of marriage isn't something to be proud of.

Inside Britney's mind:
"Hmmm, well, my album isn't selling as well as I'd like it to. My publicity level is starting to wind down now that I'm not doing any surprise concerts at NY clubs and I'm not doing numerous TV interviews. I can't make out with Colin Farrell because that's been done. I can't deny any Fred Durst allegations because nobody gives a rat's ass about that anymore. I can't get back together with Justin because he was with Cameran. Well, also because I cheated on him...tee hee. I could pose for Playboy but I need to try and keep up this innocent act for just a little bit longer; Playboy will be my last desperate attempt to gain some publicity. Sigh...what to do, what to do? I KNOW! I'll get married! Damn Britney....you're so smart! You just think of everything!!!!"

LMAO!

PhiPsiRuss 01-05-2004 11:46 AM

Only three more career moves left for Britney:

1) Pose in Playboy

2) Develop Talent

3) Die

#2 is probably not possible. People are getting tired of her, so I don't know how well #1, Playboy, will serve her. My guess is #3. The best career move left for Britney is to die.

A TOAST TO BRITNEY'S CAREER!!!

ZTAngel,

love your post. that is hilarious. nice work.

Especially when she did that whole song and dance about "marriage is sacred" and how she would wait...it's fine that she didn't wait, but is marriage no longer sacred?

rayray 01-05-2004 01:05 PM

Who cares! Its over and done with...obviously she did something right if it got all of ya'lls attention.

No, that talentless bimbo would have done something right if we all went out and spent money on her products.

Munchkin03 01-05-2004 01:19 PM

I wouldn't have known about it if it hadn't been for GC. :p

I just hope that she's not considered a role model :::shudder:::

AGDee 01-05-2004 01:54 PM

I think that if I was the one to decide whether or not an annulment could be granted, I'd say no... just to be evil!

Dee

pirepresent 01-05-2004 02:04 PM

I personally don't care about Britney one way or the other, but she is definetly starting to get a little out of control - especially if ZTAngel's post really was reminiscient of her thought process and this was just a total publicity stunt.

It is starting to get a little scary to think that young girls love her and want to be just like her... that marraige is a joke and that it's so easily terminated is a terrible message to send to young people.

ZTAngel 01-05-2004 02:46 PM

Looks like Twitney may not be able to get an annulment. Did she think of the consequences before she tried her little publicity stunt? The girl is dumb as rocks......

Annulment Of Quickie Marriage May Not Be As Easy As Britney Thinks
01.05.2004 12:07 PM EST

As Britney Spears works to undo her quickie Vegas wedding less than two days after tying the knot, a Nevada judge will have the final say on whether or not the nuptials stand.

Spears, 22, wed longtime friend Jason Allen Alexander at Las Vegas' Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip in the early morning hours on Saturday (see "Britney Spears Married In Las Vegas, At Least For A Little While").

Through her record label, the pop star said that she plans to file annulment papers on Monday (January 5). Britney's camp claims that the singer "took a joke too far," and hopes that the annulment will become official on Monday. However, the couple will need to prove to a Nevada judge that their union meets one of six valid reasons for annulment: unsound mind, physical incapacity, force, fraud, prior existing marriage or underage participants. Witnesses at the ceremony have told reporters that Spears was sober during the wedding.

If a judge rules that none of the above reasons apply and that the marriage cannot be annulled, Spears and Alexander will have to file for divorce.

kddani 01-05-2004 02:53 PM

Lol, i wonder which of the six things Britney's lawyers will try to use? Doesn't seem like she qualifies for any of them.

I'm really hoping that she gets a hard ass judge that won't let her slide.

This should be interesting to watch. I really hope he's a very good friend, because i'm sure there was no pre-nup!

PhiPsiRuss 01-05-2004 03:12 PM

Re: $350m fortune... LOTS of people would marry her!

Marry her for her money? We have something known as prenuptual agreements here in the States. Whatever anyone thinks of Britney, no one has accused her lawyers (plural intended) of being stupid.

kddani 01-05-2004 03:23 PM

pretty much every source i've heard talk about it has said that she was NOT drunk at the time

I also really hate people using being drunk as an excuse for everything........ that's just in general, and applies here.

My thoughts exactly...I no longer respect her. Marriage is sacred, and to treat it the way she did is just wrong....I have a feeling shes going to lose fans over this one.

33girl 01-05-2004 03:52 PM

How many "witnesses" were there? More importantly, how many of them were not friends or part of her entourage? I'm guessing she was drunk, but her publicists don't want to convey that "image." The big joke is that if everyone insists she wasn't drunk, she will get spanked in the annullment.

SATX*APhi 01-05-2004 05:19 PM

From CNN.com:

Quote:

"There are grounds for this court to grant an annulment ... because plaintiff Spears lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage," the annulment papers said.
Quote:

"Before entering into the marriage," the petition said, "the plaintiff and defendant did not know each other's likes and dislikes, each other's desires to have or not have children, and each other's desires as to state of residency. Upon learning of each other's desires, they are so incompatible that there was a want of understanding of each other's actions in entering into this marriage."
Quote:

Because Nevada law allows for community property between married couples, any income that Spears made while she and Alexander were married could be contested, Sommermeyer said.
There's more if you click on the link above.

butterfly2001nc 01-05-2004 05:27 PM

i read the article and have a question. If only Britney signed the annulment papers then it wouldn't be able to go through anyways, right?

I think she should have to suffer the consequences of her actions. You marry someone, you marry them. Marriage is sacred and shouldn't be taken so lightly.....a joke my foot!

just b/c you have money doesn't mean you should be able away with anything

she is such a hyprocrite!

next...

Although it's not like they don't get enough of those ideas already, and probably for a lot of them it's from their parents.

I'm of the school of thought that if your kids are idolizing pop icons to the point where they hold more sway over them than you do, you're more to blame than the pop stars.

And I don't really care that she did this because, hey, some people think marriage is sacred, others don't -- we'll live. Britney is not single-handledly going to destroy the institution.

She was definitely trashed when she did it, though. You just don't do things like this sober.

ZTAngel 01-05-2004 07:14 PM

This was a stupid, stupid thing to do. I guarantee that if E! does a second "Celebrity Oops" that this will be number one. Bad career move. People may even stop respecting her a talented musician/artist. Wait....nevermind.....

Peaches-n-Cream 01-05-2004 07:31 PM

I just saw the former Mr. Spears on tv. Apparently, he will be on Access Hollywood today.

It may be a bad move for her, but he's about to get at least 15 minutes of fame.

Since he isn't going to get any money in the divorce, maybe he will sue for the pain and suffering all this publicity will cause. :p
