Wel the minute she starts to eat normally again she'll gain it all back because of the muscle loss (muscle is the first thing to go when you starve yourself, and as it burns calories much faster than fat, when you lose muscle your metabolism takes a tremendous dip).

I'm shocked though. She has enough money to do the whole personal chef thing a la Janet and J. Lo. Why is she taking this route??

Omarion Calls B2K Breakup ‘A REAL SAD SITUATION’

NEW YORK — The question surrounding B2K now is, if there's so much love in the air, why did they part ways?

The trio of J-Boog, Raz-B and Lil Fizz have publicly professed that they still have love for estranged frontman Omarion, and on Thursday (January 8) Omarion spoke publicly for the first time and said he felt the same way about his guys.

"The fellas know I love them," he said in the "TRL" green room, trying to keep a happy face. "I love them dudes. Those been my boys, my partners in crime for five years."

Despite the group's public profession of affection, O said there had been friction in the group for the past three or four months and that there were even times when fights almost broke out.

"It wasn't something recent," O explained. "It wasn't an all-out fistfight but it was different things they wanted to do. With the breakup situation, it wasn't something that just sprung up and happened. When we was like, 'The group is over,' it was definitely a series of things. Plus Fizz was doing a solo album, I was getting prepared for mine, Raz was getting prepared for his. So everybody was kinda on their own agenda, trying to find their own self. The breakup wasn't based on anything but us growing up and wanting to go in our own direction."

According to the other three members of B2K, however, the split was over money. Boog, Raz and Fizz have said they were financially "raped" and claim they never received payment for their stints on the successful Scream tour series.

Omarion, however, disputed that. "They've been basically putting it out in the public that it was a management issue [why we broke up]. That it was money stolen from us and all these false allegations. I'm a businessman. Me, my mother and my attorney, we went up to [our management and production company] T.U.G to check the finances, and there was not one penny stolen from us."

He said people must be in his friends' ears and he urged them to go over the books themselves. Omarion said he decided to stick with B2K manager Chris Stokes because he's been a father figure and hadn't committed any wrongdoing.

"It really hurts," the singer continued. "It's hard to keep my spirits up and keep going because I'm by myself now. I have to basically hold my own, which I'm not used to."

The last time O saw or spoke to his former bandmates, he said, was right before 2004 started. They had to perform two shows at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and O was physically not up to the task. He had to be carted off to the hospital.

"After the second show I was so fatigued," the braided singer said. "It was two shows, I wasn't ready for that. Two hours after the show we went to the hospital. I had to get from D.C. to L.A. because they thought they would have to do some major procedures. They checked everything and I'm all good."

In the few days it took for Omarion to heal, the rest of the tour was postponed and the group's breakup was announced.

"After I got back home, we was trying to get in touch with them but numbers were changed. I didn't receive as much as a call when I was in the hospital," O said. "That kind of reassured me like, 'Oh, it's all over.' "

As for whether B2K can be salvaged, O replied, "I don't think so, but at this point I don't even know. I haven't talked to them. It's a real sad situation. I apologize to all my fans. It's something right now that's being blown so far out of proportion, [we have to do] more than just sit down and talk as men. The situation is way bigger than what it could have been."

A few minutes later he felt more optimistic and suggested, "Over time, wounds will heal."

O won't have much time to let the melancholy linger. B2K's movie, "You Got Served," opens in theaters January 30, and Omarion's solo album is slated for March. Among the people he wants to work with are R. Kelly, the Neptunes and Missy Elliott.

NAACP Awards

2 surprises join race for NAACP awards
Diverse choices for 2004 prizes

By Greg Braxton
Tribune Newspapers: Los Angeles Times

Published January 8 2004

The NAACP Image Awards typically honor the best in African-American film, TV, music and literature, but nominations for the 2004 awards came with a diversity-tinged surprise on Wednesday, with honors for two foreign films centered on non-black cultures, and snubs of several popular black shows.

"Whale Rider" and "Bend It Like Beckham," hits with international and American audiences, were nominated for motion picture, and "Whale Rider" star Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for film actress.

"Whale Rider" is set in a Maori community of New Zealand, while England-set "Bend It Like Beckham" focuses on a young Indian woman who idolizes England's premier soccer star, David Beckham.

Other motion-picture nominees include "Bad Boys II," "Deliver Us From Eva," and "The Fighting Temptations."

"Bringing Down the House," one of last year's most popular comedies with crossover audiences, was not nominated, although its star, Queen Latifah, was nominated for film actress.

Movie actor nominees are Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Radio"); Denzel Washington ("Out of Time"); Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix Revolutions"); Samuel L. Jackson ("S.W.A.T"); and Will Smith ("Bad Boys II"). Joining Castle-Hughes and Latifah in the film-actress category are Beyonce Knowles ("The Fighting Temptations"), Gabrielle Union ("Deliver Us From Eva") and Halle Berry ("Gothika").

The major television categories were marked by the exclusion of the WB network, which features comedies starring Steve Harvey, Anthony Anderson and Holly Robinson Peete, and snubs of UPN's "All of Us," from executive producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and "Eve," starring rap star Eve.

Nominated for best comedy are "Bernie Mac," "Girlfriends," "Half & Half," "Whoopi" and "My Wife and Kids." Drama nominees are "24," "Boston Public," "CSI: Miami," "Soul Food" and "The Wire."

Elecia Battle, 40, said she is dropping her lawsuit over the Mega Millions jackpot that was awarded Tuesday to 34-year-old Rebecca Jemison.

Battle apologized to her husband, Jemison and her lawyer.

"I'm not a bad person. I'm really not," she said. "Everyone has a past."

Days after the Dec. 30 drawing, Battle filed a police report saying she lost the winning ticket, possibly when she dropped her purse outside a convenience store. She later sued to block Jemison from collecting the jackpot.

Police in suburban South Euclid, where the winning ticket was sold, said Battle will probably be charged with filing a false police report — a misdemeanor punishable by 30 days to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.

"I think what she's saying is what everybody else is inferring — that she's lying," Lt. Kevin Nietert said.

The Ohio Lottery said it knew the truth all along. Jemison provided another ticket bought at the same time and place and had a ticket that showed she had played the same numbers in the prior drawing, the lottery said.

"We were confident with our decision from the onset to award Rebecca Jemison the $162 million Mega Millions jackpot, and we are pleased that this matter has been resolved," lottery Director Dennis G. Kennedy said.

Jemison, of South Euclid, has an unlisted number, and a call to her accountant was not immediately returned.

Battle said she wanted to use the money to help her family and recently laid-off Cleveland police officers.

"I wanted to win," she said with a shaky voice. "The numbers were so overwhelming. I did buy a ticket and I lost it. I wanted to win so bad for my kids and my family. I apologize."

When she was asked directly if she lied, Battle's lawyer, Sheldon Starke, refused to let her answer.

Battle has a criminal record that includes assault on a drug store clerk and misuse of another person's credit card.

Michael Jackson to Appear in a Movie
(AP, 01/09/2004 10:04:00AM)

You may soon be seeing Michael Jackson on the big screen. The entertainer is in a movie titled "Miss Cast Away," about a group of beauty pageant contestants who crash-land on a deserted island, where they find Noah's Ark.

Jackson plays a force sent by the pope in a beam of light to dispense wisdom to the stranded women. No word on when or how the movie will be released.

In other news, Jackson is making good on his promise to put the "Never" in Neverland. In his "60 Minutes" interview, Jackson said he wouldn't go back to live at his estate after police combed through it in a criminal raid.

Now, the television show "Extra" reports the singer has rented a multi-million dollar home in Beverly Hills, Calif. The report says the mansion doesn't have anywhere near the square footage of his Neverland Ranch, but it does have a tennis court and swimming pool.

Jackson Leasing $20 Million Beverly Hills Mansion
Says Neverland No Longer Home

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Jan. 9) - Michael Jackson, who says he'll never live at his Neverland Ranch again, has found a $20 million substitute.
The pop star is leasing a cliffside estate described as the ''crown jewel of Beverly Hills'' with panoramic city views, according to veteran broker Elaine Young.
Jackson, who is facing child molestation charges, signed a one-year lease with a one-year option to buy the mammoth three-story mansion, Young said. The listed lease price was $100,000 a month, but it wasn't known what Jackson was paying.
Calls to his attorney Mark Geragos weren't immediately returned Friday.
The self-described King of Pop said during a CBS-TV ''60 Minutes'' interview last month that Santa Barbara County sheriff's investigators searching Neverland Ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley so violated his privacy that it will never be the same for him.
''I won't live there ever again,'' he said. ''It's a house now. It's not a home anymore. I'll only visit.''
The 37,000-square-foot Beverly Hills estate, about 90 miles southeast of Neverland, was built in 1991 on 2.25 acres. It is owned by a Japanese artist and has been on the market for $20 million.
It has nine bedroom suites, 16 bathrooms, a north/south tennis court, a 3,600 square-foot ballroom/theater, an indoor swimming pool, an exercise room with sauna and steam room, a spa and a gourmet kitchen.
Jackson, 45, is charged with seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent. He's free on $3 million bail pending arraignment Jan. 16 in Santa Maria.

Arista President 'L.A.' Reid Exits
Tue Jan 13, 7:42 PM ET

By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Music Writer

NEW YORK - Antonio "L.A." Reid, who took the helm at Arista Records nearly four years ago and oversaw platinum successes from acts including OutKast, Pink and Avril Lavigne (news), has left the label, it was announced Tuesday.

Reid became president and CEO of Arista in May 2000 after the company's founder and CEO, Clive Davis, left because of parent company BMG's mandatory retirement policy.

Reid was not available to comment, according to an Arista spokeswoman.

Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, chairman and CEO of BMG, called Reid "one of the music industry's top record men."

"His passion for working with and developing some of the world's best artists is unparalleled," Schmidt-Holtz said in a statement Tuesday. "I sincerely wish him the best of luck in all future endeavors."

Reid's departure comes at a surprising time; OutKast has the top two songs on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and "Milkshake" from Kelis, another Arista artist, is No. 3. It also has the top-selling album in the country with OutKast's "Speakerboxxx-The Love Below," which earned six Grammy nominations last month, including album of the year.

The company has also had successes this year with albums from Sarah McLachlan (news) and Dido. But the follow-up album from Pink, "Try This," has sold poorly since its release in the fall; her last album, "M!ssundaztood," sold more than 5 million copies.

Reid also re-signed Whitney Houston (news) to a $100 million contract in 2001, despite rumors of drug use and erratic behavior about the singer, who's the label's best-selling artist. Houston's subsequent album, "Just Whitney," was the poorest-selling disc of her career.

Michael Smellie, BMG's chief operating officer, will be in charge of Arista for now.

A spokesman for BMG, Nathaniel Brown, said the company's recent announcement of a planned merger with Sony's music division had nothing to do with Reid's departure.

Reid first gained prominence in the early '80s as a founding member of the R&B group The Deele, which featured then unknown Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Edmonds and Reid went on to build a successful production and songwriting partnership with hits for artists such as Houston, and later for the group's own label, LaFace Records, whose artists included Toni Braxton (news), TLC and Usher.

Davis, whom Reid replaced, later founded J Records with backing from BMG and is now head of RCA Music Group.

HIP-HOP MOGUL DASH RAPED ME
Wed Jan 14, 1:42 PM ET Add Op/Ed - New York Post to My Yahoo!

By STEVE DUNLEAVY

A LEGGY former model says she was horribly raped by powerhouse rap mogul Damon Dash in a 15-second, forced-sex encounter on New Year's Day, 2003, a blockbuster $15 million new suit charges.

Kirstie Thompson's suit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan yesterday, claims that the hip-hop superstar sexually attacked her while she was in a booze-and- pill-induced stupor in a hotel room on an island off Brazil over a year ago.

Thompson, now a concierge for a top fashion house in Manhattan, said her nightmare began when she was on location in Brazil working for uber-model Naomi Campbell, and she and her best friend decided to island-hop to a posh New Year's Eve gig.

At the party, thrown by New York millionaire Mario Ganero and drawing such guests as the president of Brazil, Thompson said she was verbally sexually harassed by Dash.

"Damon came up to me and asked me - and literally, these were his words - 'Will you have sex with me?' " Thompson told The Post yesterday.

"He asked me that three times, and I said absolutely no.

"And he said, 'Everyone has sex with me.' "

"I'm 32 years of age," Thompson said, "and I'm not a virgin, but I'd never heard such a vulgar line in my life. What woman would be romanced by someone saying, 'Will you have sex with me?' and being denied three times and telling you he's had sex with everyone?"

Thompson claims that the attack occurred after she went back to the hotel room she and her friend shared on another island. She admits to having "eight glasses of champagne and a half tablet of 'ecstasy' " and falling asleep there.

She said the next thing she knew, her friend had brought Dash - a 32-year-old Harlem native who owns Rocawear clothing line and is partners in Roc-a-Fella Records - back to the room and told him, "She [Thompson] hasn't had much sex."

"The next second he's on top of me," Thompson told The Post.

"For 10-15 seconds at 8:30 in the morning, he was on top of me. I screamed out to my best friend, and nothing happened, and I certainly passed out."

After waking up again "at 1:30 p.m., examining myself, I knew something terrible had happened, I had been raped," she said. Thompson said she immediately filed a report with local authorities and went to the hospital.

But Dash's representative, Amanda Silverman, yesterday ripped the allegations as "baseless and untrue."

"These are ludicrous allegations," she said. "Damon hasn't been charged with anything."

Thompson has hired celebrity lawyer Raoul Felder, who has Jimmy Curran, an ex-cop-turned-lawyer with 37 NYPD commendations, handling the case.

The suit claims that Damon's actions were "outrageous and intentional and done with malice," noting that he "was aware [Thompson] would not consent to sexual intercourse."

Yesterday, Thompson added, "There's no possibility in a million years I'd ever go to bed with Damon Dash, I don't care what his success rate is."

Thompson said the idea that Dash may have been dating Campbell at the time of her alleged attack is even more repulsive.

"We had heard that Damon was going with Naomi. I don't know whether that is a fact or not," she said.

"But Damon came on pretty gross with me, particularly if he was with another woman."

Mystikal Convicted

New Orleans Rapper Mystikal Gets 6 Years In Jail
Rape Of Hairdresser By Tyler, Others Videotaped

POSTED: 9:24 AM CST January 15, 2004
UPDATED: 2:56 PM CST January 15, 2004

BATON ROUGE, La. -- New Orleans rapper Mystikal was sentenced Thursday to six years in jail after pleading guilty to a sexual battery charge.

Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, appeared for sentencing in state court in Baton Rouge. An earlier hearing was delayed after his attorney discovered the judge had watched Tyler's videotape of the attack.

Defense attorney David Bourland said Tyler pleaded guilty after he was promised that the videotape would not be shown to anyone, including District Judge Tony Marabella. Now Tyler wants to change his plea.

Tyler and two bodyguards videotaped themselves in forced sex acts with Tyler's hairstylist after an argument with her.

Tyler accused the woman of stealing $80,000 worth of his checks. The woman denies the accusation.

Bourland said his client would not have entered a plea if he knew the tape was going to be shown. He said the tape is inflammatory and doesn't "reflect the entirety of the events."

R&B divas Beyonce Knowles and Janet Jackson are battling it out -- over who stands where at a magazine photo shoot.

According to reports, Beyonce only agreed to appear on the front cover of Essence magazine with chart rivals Mary J. Blige and Jackson, if she could stand in the middle.

But bosses at the magazine are apparently steeling themselves to tell the Destiny's Child babe they have already promised the best spot to 37-year-old Jackson.

A source explains, "Beyonce may have got her way in Destiny's Child but this is different. It's going to be hard to keep everyone and their entourages happy.

"Beyonce is the hottest thing in music right now -- she has four Grammy nominations, number ones all over the globe and wants to take center stage.

"But as far as Janet is concerned, it's a case of 'been there, done that'."

The pair are also due to meet at next month's Superbowl, when Beyonce will sing the national anthem and Janet will headline the half-time entertainment.

Nick Lachey Likely To Start Kissing Jessica Simpson's Tummy More
01.14.2004 3:48 PM EST

No, Jessica Simpson's not pregnant, but Nick Lachey is likely to start kissing his wife's tummy a little more in the new year.

That's thanks to the pop starlet's new belly-button fragrance, made from pheromones, aromatic chemical compounds naturally emitted by humans that can act as an aphrodisiac.

The perfume is part of D'lish Fragrance Inc.'s upcoming Dessert, a body-care line Simpson helped create.

Due in Sephora stores nationwide in April, the line will also feature whipped body cream, chocolate body gloss, powdered sugar body shimmer, lip-plumping fragrance, bath bubbles, and hair and body treatments.

All of the items are "lickable," according to D'lish, and available in three scents, Creamy, Dreamy and Juicy.

"It's been so much fun to be able to create a line of beauty products from start to finish," Simpson said in a statement. "I can't wait to be able to share Dessert with the world. The whole experience has been so exciting to me, from coming up with ideas and concepts to smelling samples ... and choosing my favorites."

Free samples of Dessert are available now through www.dessertbeauty.com.

Along with designing fragrances and, of course, making reality TV, Simpson has been meeting with movie producers. She is currently in talks to star in the drama "Walk On," based on the true story of Texas Rangers pitcher David Clyde, according to her father/manager, Joe Simpson.

Clyde, who was recently described as "LeBron James in baseball spikes, only 30 years earlier," went straight to the major leagues from high school in 1973, attracting sellout crowds for a struggling franchise.

Desperate to keep attendance up, the team had Clyde in constant rotation, which led to troubles with his underdeveloped arm. After three lackluster seasons with Texas and two with Cleveland, Clyde left baseball at the age of 26.

Simpson would play the star's high school sweetheart. The Clyde role has yet to be cast.

The second season of "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" will premiere January 21 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Chris Tucker to quit Hollywood to fight AIDS in Africa?
By WENN

Comedian Chris Tucker is so moved by the plight of AIDS victims in Africa, he's considering quitting his Hollywood career to concentrate on fighting the continent's epidemic.

Pals of the 31-year-old Rush Hour star say he's turned down more than $100 million in film roles in the past six years, in part to make time for his charity work.

A source says, "After Chris receives $25 million for Rush Hour 3 and his current film contract runs out in 2004, he's going to focus solely on his charity work. Helping children with AIDS has become his passion.

"Chris doesn't just sign his name to the cause. He prefers spending his time with his family and working to combat the AIDS crisis."

During a hiatus, Tucker, who lives in a $2 million California mansion with his longtime girlfriend and five-year-old son Chris Jr., decided to explore the world. His travels took him to Uganda, where he met a mother in her 30s, who was dying of AIDS.

Tucker says, "I never imagined in America preparing for death at such a young age. It definitely changed the way I look at the world, Africa, and all the things that we take for granted in America."

I applaud Chris Tucker. I will miss his acting, but I believe that he will have more of an impact with his AIDS work.

If I'm Big "Uuben," I find a way to diversify my image beyond this American Idol stuh. I think that Ruben, if he has the proper producers, songwriters and management, could definitely be a star in the adult R&B love ballad market.

nikki1920 01-20-2004 03:08 PM

HC I agree?

Whoops, wrong format! lol
But I think Ruben's true test will be his second album. I'm not really feeling I'm Sorry 2004.

CTFU about B and Ms. Jackson. Little girl if you dont sit your bootylicious self down, lol...and when is Janet gonna put another album out?

Hmm you're right. I initially skimmed the article and took it to mean the plight of AIDS not just AIDS in Africa.

Granted AIDS in the US is bad, but it's nothing compared to what's happening in Africa. They are battling poverty and ignorance on a scale that the US hasn't since in decades if not centuries. It's as if AIDs had hit the US circa 1800. The people are culturally and financially completely unprepared and the infection rate there is truly astounding. People there believe things like having sex with a virgin can cure you of AIDS. There is nothing even approaching that level of miseducation here.

When it comes to the AIDS virus Africa is really where the majority of our efforts need to be focused IMO.

Ditto!

Well said, Soror!

Not to mention infant rape. I've read that raping of babypeople is connected with misinformation about a "cure" for AIDS.

I am really upset for Ruben. I LIKE SORRY 2004:p ! I would be P.I. Issed if I was him. First they let this red haired freak's(I don't care how good his voice is) album come out before his and now he is going on tour first? It is not fair!! This crap did not happen on the first season and the fact that it is happening to the BROTHER who won the second season is really making me mad! The American Idol folks were/are weak and they did not stand up for Rueben when he won because they did not expect him to win. Make me sick:mad:

I have managed to avoid hearing any and all music related to American Idol contestants in the past year (except for that Miss Independent song, that was ) and I aim to continue that trend for 2004.

Janet Jackson knows sexy — from her topless Rolling Stone cover to videos like the Herb Ritts-directed "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" — but producer Dallas Austin promises her new album is "easily the most sexy thing she's done."

"Guys won't know what to do with themselves after this," he said, laughing at the prospect. "It's one of the best records she's made."

Austin said he's produced five songs with Janet already, having worked with her over the last few months at his DARP Studios in Atlanta. Janet's still-untitled album is due March 30, according to a spokesperson for her label. Austin said he and Janet will record for another month before deciding which songs make the final cut. Janet is also working with longtime executive producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

The overriding theme of Austin's collaborations with Janet is her bubbling sexuality. "To me, this is her Dirty Mind," Austin explained, referring to the Prince album that established him as a hormonally charged pop star. "It's a really sexy record, but not in a sensual way. It's bold, it's fun, it's really positive. Nobody's sad, nobody's mad. It's just really fun songs where she happens to be talking frankly about sex."

Austin said the direction came from the energy she gave off from her when they first started working together. "She always shows what's going on with her life through her records, reveals the phase she's in with her life and brings out that experience," he said.

Early on in the recording process last May, producer 7 Aurelius said he and Jackson had crafted some "cutting edge, hard-hitting dance music" for the LP, and he predicted fans would be surprised by the final product (see "Janet Jackson Recording 'Hard-Hitting Dance Music' For New LP").

Austin, meanwhile, has also been spending time working with another alluring talent — Gwen Stefani. The bulk of the songs they've worked on were finished before the holidays, he said.

"They're both the easiest artists to work with, [Janet] and Gwen," Austin said. "With both their albums, it's the most creative vibe I've had in a long time. You'd think because of their status they're going to be spoiled stars, but it's not like that. They're open to anything you put in front of them, and that's so important because as a songwriter and producer it leaves you free to do what you do best

lovelyivy84 01-20-2004 04:43 PM

I hope Janet's next album is hot because that last one...well it definitely wasn't.

New Janet Jackson Album Due in March
Tue Jan 20, 5:27 PM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Jonathan Cohen

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Janet Jackson (news)'s as-yet-untitled new album will be released March 30, according to a spokesperson at her label, Virgin Records.

Beyond collaborations with longtime producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jackson has also worked with Missy Elliott, Dallas Austin and producer Rich Harrison, who was behind the boards for Beyonce Knowles ' "Crazy in Love." Jackson is planning to tour this summer in support of the album.

She will be part of the MTV-produced Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston on Feb. 1, although it is unknown if she will preview material from the upcoming release. P. Diddy, Kid Rock and Nelly will also be on hand for the festivities.

The new album is the follow-up to 2001's "All for You," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and has sold more than 3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The title cut reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 singles chart.

If she made the remark about "B" with "Been there done that" She's trying to go back... using the same producer B did
