Stan, I am not trying to rub salt into the wound, but welcome to the real world. What is the real World, well, it is the world where a Brother cares about His Fraternity, Its Beleifs and what it stands for.
Interal Fraternity Brother, you are in a situation that many of us have found ourselves in. It is sad when it comes home.:( I can only Hope that with You and a Few Brothers and Alums that Your Chapter can be rebuilt to stature. Sounds like a decision needs to be made, get with your National, explain the problem, see if they will work with you. Have a Strong Active Few, and Have Alums Working with you. If not? Stan, All I can say is The Very Best of Luck, many of us have been there and it is tough as Hell!:( Go, Buddy, You Are The Man of The Hour! |
Stan, I think no alcohol may be a strong point for you - you'll get guys who are there for the BROTHERHOOD instead of the crazy getting drunk. When you're rushing guys, tout Delta Sig as the opportunity to rebuild a chapter and turns things around: They aren't joining a fraternity, they're establishing one. That will appeal to a lot of guys who are the type of guys that you want.

BUMP
For those who care, the chapter pulled a complete 180, and the guys are poised for growth and success. When I got back form the Delta SIgma Phi Leadership Institute in Indiana, it was if I had come back to a completely different chapter. Guys who I thought didn't care about the business side were already to start planning for the Fall. We held one of the first Summer chapter retreats with some National alumni who are from my chapter. After some very powerful encouragement, we set out and prepared new bylaws, new pledge education program, and started doing things I've never seen before. We managed to get rid of the problem guys, the guys who insisted that greek life is just partying. We probably have the most qualified and committed exec board I've ever seen. Although we only got 13 pledges (short of our goal of 15), the ones we got have been champs. They're totally outgoing, social and well-rounded.. Attendance at events is WAY up, morale's at an all time high, and the prospects for the future have been laid out very, very nicely. Which culminated into out first success this fall: We won HomeComing along with Gamma Phi Beta (and KA). The guys were completely involved with that, and we won best float and almost won the chariot race too. As for me, I've run the course of other Seniors, and am pretty much taken a back seat and let the others guys shine. I know I've done my job, and I know I helped lay the foundation for a much successful future for our chapter, much like many of the other older actives have. I guess if you stick around something long enough, thing work out in the end. I believe that in a couple years, we will be one of the top tier fraternities on campus. And as I get involved as an alumni, it'll be fun to watch them enjoy their success. |
Can I be the First to Say Hooha for You and Your Chapter.:)
This is great news!!! Was it a learning experience? Damn Skippy for sure! Many times culling out is hard, but as I think You have seen it was something that needed to be done and it was by Fellow Active Brothers. Growing up can be hard to do and there hopefully will be a leader who comes along and says enough! Tickled to Hear. Hope You feel Mucho Better! |

You definitely lead by example, and it's evident you're an inspiration to your chapter and congratulations on the big turnaround. You guys deserve it! |

Congrats!! I've met a few of them at the Greek Life office and they've been really nice. Quote:
Woo! I'm happy for you and us (and KA). I am so hoping that you guys are aiming to rock out on SOE. Are you all attending events and getting your SOE points? .....Kelly :) |

I've seen this happen more than once, but as you know, nothing feels as good as when you KNOW the people involved! You should be very proud - you've earned it!! :) |

We realize SOE is kinda a tough BS thing they got on us, but if do we do well on it, then there's nothing they can say about us as an organization because we knew our responsibilities asa a campus org and we got the job done. I really got to give it to our chapter advisor. He's a much younger alumni from our Sonoma chapter who's done the one thing that I believe pulled our chapter together the most: the undergrads found an alum they can relate to and respect, and we listen to his suggestions because he rebuilt our Sonoma chapter as well as shown us that this turnaround was possible. So, I totally forgot tonight was Founder's Dinner. Man, there were so many chapter alumni present tonight, and I've never seen them so happy and optimistic about our chapter's future. ETA: We won Homecoming! Greek Week is in the Spring. |

Great job Stan! I know how disappointed you were before and it's awesome that you stuck around to help bring this chapter back up. I know you're brothers over here would be proud of you guys.

Stan, I just had to say again, CONGRATS To Your Chapter for a heck of a come back.
I know what You went through as have been there:) Let Me Give You a Big Pat on the Back for having the Guts (Lack of a better word) for what You went through and what has evolved with Your Help and Fellow Alums. Job Well Done! Interfraternally Yours, |
Stan, even in my short time working with my chapter at SDSU last year, I always had your chapter in my thoughts and really hoped to see you guys shine - it appears that you're on your way! And I definitely agree with OTW that your attitude about allowing the underclassmen the chance to shine as you take a back seat in this last few months of your undergraduate experience with Delta Sigma Phi - it's such a breath of relief from Seniors who can't handle change in the chapter because its "always" been done such-and-such way!
Best of luck for the remainder of this semester and next, as well as with SOE! :) |
