Mike & I are eating at a local restaurant this past Friday when I felt someone pulling my hair lightly (I have rather springy curls) so I turn around. There is a female clown smiling insanely at me from the booth behind us. I absolutely freaked out b/c it's just awful to turn around while holding food only to see an insane clown chick holding a balloon elephant next to you. Ugh.

People would be like, "Wasn't that special?" Ummmm....no. And I don't think Jesus would appreciate being portrayed by that hack with the big red lips and ridiculous shoes. And I'm pretty sure they didn't have suspenders and face paint back in the Biblical day.

ROTFLMAO that is simultaneously the funniest and the creepiest thing i have heard of - possibly ever. it's gonna take a lot to top that. a clown ministry? seriously? i mean i'm not that afraid of clowns, they're creepy and all, but good grief, a crucified clown Jesus? that would frighten the hell out of me.

eta: i just told this story to a friend of mine and now i have tears in my eyes

The Easter clown

An Easter brunch was going well until a clown popped his head into the dining room at a hotel. A few kids saw him, but my then 2 yr old niece hadn't seen the clown. The clown got down, crept up on us as my sister/the child's mother tried to wave him away. The kid didn't like to be startled. Up, pops the clown, generating wails from my niece. The clown was escourted out the kid's uncles with her mother at their heels.

I think I just laughed so hard that I woke up my parents.

JAMES--I'M NOT EVEN SCARED OF CLOWNS AND I HATE YOU FOR THAT!!! :(

For real, I always loved clowns until I got to college and EVERY girl in my dorm was terrified of them. The phobia must be contagious because now, I'm not really scared, but they make me a little uneasy. I've never seen "It" and don't plan on it. And that's final.

honeychile 05-29-2007 10:36 AM

James, you have to do something about that nasty streak. blech.

AHA!

Research back up those afraid of clowns!

From Yahoo!

Don't Send In The Clowns

"Wed Jan 16, 8:32 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - Bad news for Coco and Blinko -- children don't like clowns and even older kids are scared of them.

The news that will no doubt have clowns shedding tears was revealed in a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who were examining how to improve the decor of hospital children's wards.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all the 250 patients aged between four and 16 they quizzed disliked the use of clowns, with even the older ones finding them scary.

"As adults we make assumptions about what works for children," said Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university.

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable.""

Honestly, I've never understood the appeal of clowns, anyway. I can't say I was afraid of them, but I think I always thought they were a little ridiculous.

nittanyalum 01-16-2008 01:34 PM

I am CRYING after reading that post again, I am laughing so hard. It never fails to deliver!!!!

ForeverRoses 01-16-2008 02:14 PM

My boss thinks I have lost my mind. I have been laughing so hard I have tears rolling down my face!

Oh and my two boys that can talk both dislike clowns. The older one things they are boring and the younger one is scared of them. So I save $$ by not having to take them to the circus! Hopefully the baby won't like them either...

BetteDavisEyes 01-16-2008 02:19 PM

I love this thread. It never fails to make me laugh.

catiebug 01-16-2008 02:36 PM

My church had a clown ministry, too! We didn't have crucified-clown Jesus, but the youth (the clown ministry members) often went to places around town to perform. I remember going to a retirement home in town to put on a show. We were getting ready to start the show, and we were lined up in a back hallway. An old lady came walking up, and apparently didn't know about the show. She started screaming bloody murder and hitting one of the guys with her cane. She started yelling, "Get the hell out of here, clown! You can't have my soul!" It was really bizarre.

Me too! Ever since I saw "Killer Clowns from Outer Space" when I was home sick from school.

Whenever one pops up on TV, my husband tells me to hide, I duck my head and he has to let me know when it's over! And it sucks, because I LOVE the circus!

While we are on the subject of clowns...he would have been perfect for the new Batman movie as the Joker...here is an audition pic:

HAHAHAHAHA, I still think of that original post every now and again. This is GC history right here. ^^^Oh, btw I've never seen this movie and this was the most torturous 7 minutes I've endured in awhile. But I do love how Pennywise got debo'd with an asthma inhaler and a slingshot. Kids rule.

ETA: I actually thought of this thread when I watched a really old ep of The Tyra Banks Show where she talked to these 2 people (man and a woman) with clown phobias. One of them was a black man and he looked like he wanted to cold clock anybody who even thought about wearing rainbow hair. When the clowns came out and sat by him, I thought he was gonna straight superman somebody. To this day, I wonder if the OP was the woman who was on stage...

Senusret I 12-13-2008 11:21 PM

How come I can't find the ORIGINAL thread?

FINALLY, we can link GREEK LIFE with CLOWNS!

A LOT of posts and threads went missing after the great GC outage of 2001. I tried searching and couldn't find it either.

Did anyone else think that was caused by 9/11? Or maybe Enron? We were all so paranoid back then!

honeychile 12-14-2008 12:50 PM

Here's a total tangent: has anyone else who hates clowns ever thought the same about Santa Claus? As a child, I absolutely went berserk rather than sit on his lap!

Not Santa Claus, but some DGs are afraid of Hannah (our Raggedy Ann doll symbol) because Raggedy Ann is basically a patchwork / female clown doll.

dekeguy 12-15-2008 06:25 PM

When I was a little kid my parents gave me the speech about watching out for strange dirty old men who seemed too interested in little children. I wasn't sure what a pederast was or did but I knew they were bad news. Then my mother took me to the department store where we could see Santa. I took one look at this old weirdo with a bushy beard, a red velvet costume, and a bunch of small tykes gathered around him and sitting on his lap.
Holy shit Batman, Santa Clause was the guy my parents warned me about! Santa was a pervert! After that I never did go see Santa.
