The main two words are Social and Service, oh my bad, a specific Type such as SAI!

There are different ruling bodies who have their own regulations.

While many are know by Greek Letters, they basically are not the same in the eyes of GreekDom!

We on greekchat hold a little different structure of rules!:)

If one goes back in History, there were NO Nationals Founded.

They were started at a single College. Therefore, they in esencence started as a local and became a National!

Fraternites have two major areas of founding of beds of Organizations, The Union and Miami Triads. The 2 oldest. That is not to say, that VMI, The Citiadel and others for Fraternities are discounted.

Some of the Soroitys have had the same thing, I beleive Farmington being one.

You probably mean the "Farmville Four." Kappa Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Zeta Tau Alpha and Alpha Sigma Alpha were all started at the Virginia State Female Normal School (later Longwood College, now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia, in the late 1890's.

Add to that:

The Macon (Georgia) duo -- Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Mu,

The Monmouth (Illinois) duo -- Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma, and

The Syracuse Triad -- Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi Beta, and Alpha Gamma Delta

This is exactly what I was thinking as I read this, GP. I'm temporarily living in a town in upstate NY that just so happens to be a college town. There are ONLY local fraternities and sororities here. Unfortunately, they are the stereotypical representation of Greek Life. (MORE unfortunate is the fact that my uncle is the Chief of Police here!) When I first got here, and he went off on how terrible Greeks were, we sat down and had a long 'Greek Information' night. The sororities here, according to him, get into more trouble than the fraternities. I explained to him that the NPC or a national office would never allow an NPC sorority to operate like that. I was doing this a lot when the first Sorority Life came out!

However, I do know of an NPC GLO that is at a larger NY school that hazed the crap out of my cousin's wife's sister (I know confusing!). They were a local that had recently joined a national, and didn't want to 'conform' to the national's rules. They were telling me about all the stuff she had to do, and they couldn't believe how surprised I was! I suppose I fear for people who are in locals...not ALL of them. But, a lot of locals have warped senses of sisterhood. The same can be said of unruly NPC groups as well...

ajuhdg, I have heard a lot about locals in NY from other boards I've been on - I think the ones in rural areas are the worst. My chapter's been national for 35 years now, and we get made fun of for NOT hazing. We're kind of the odd ones out.

Well, I can tell you this.....my sorority is a local but we are a christian sorority. Hazing has never been a practice or ours and never will be. I was not hazed and I will not haze anyone esle. Of course I had to prove I wanted to be in the sororitu but I did have to disgrace myself while doing it. So, all locals are not bad.:)

Short lived as it was before LXA, I for one did not allow Hazing as a Local. That Was My beleif. We Knew it Then. More so do We Know it Now. Well supposed to now! When I find out about a Chapter that Does This, I get Irate as Hell!

If I am An (Offricer) International Member, I would advise against it! If They contunute, They Are Gone! Period!:o

I agree it should not be tolerated.
