more ebay items

I was browsing ebay yesterday and ran across an item that would be of archival interest for any Kentucky Beta's out there. It is a picture of your colonizing pledge class and a program that introduced the new sororities/ fraternities that came to the UK campus at that time.

If there are any UK Pi Phis in GC, pass the word to your AAC-- you might want it for your archives!

radioZTA 08-26-2003 02:22 PM

I think this might be one of your items, too.

Looks like it's a Pi Phi pin. But the picture isn't very good.

Edited Thread

After discussion Erin and I thought it would be simpler to have all the eBay Auction posts in a single location. I merged all the threads I could find and this is what we have! Please post any relevant Pi Phi auctions you find in this thread. Non-compliers will be merged. :D

Thanks all!
Pi Phi love,
Susan

This kind of sketches me out...

carnation 11-12-2003 10:26 PM

LOL! The ad says that our name means Pierced By Fire!!!

I want to learn the tune to Speed Thee My Arrow--we never sang that. Anyway--did y'all notice the other stuff that guy had up for sale? Where does he get those things?

Hey, wait a minute! Welcome back, RowdySister!

That's one of my chapter's favorites! I don't know how to get you the tune, though!

erniegurl00 11-13-2003 03:08 PM

Wow, I'm surprised you never sang that song! Speed Thee My Arrow is used during very important times at IN Gamma!

Anyway, can you read music? If anything maybe I can tape my chapter singing it, especially since I have one of those handy dandy hand-held recorders. :)

carnation 11-13-2003 10:05 PM

Yes, I can read music! That would be so cool if you could do that! I've always wished that Pi Phi would produce a tape of our songs.

cherub 11-14-2003 10:35 PM

They do have a tape of songs, just no vocals.

There's a tape that goes with the Song Manual, called "Traditional Songs" IT's the instrunmental to the song book, which has the lyrics and music. Threre's also a tape of recruitment songs.

I know, b/c our chapter had to reorder them after they went missing from archives.:(

eta - and Speed Thee is definitely on the traditional tape

ATTN Pi Phis,
One of our pins is being sold on Ebay for a measley $5!!! Shouldn't something be done to keep non-pi phis from being able to get ahold of such an important item ??

FIVE DOLLARS??? Pi Phi Pin

erniegurl00 11-18-2003 01:54 AM

I might place a bid on it. Is Ohio Alpha Ohio State?

erniegurl00 11-18-2003 07:50 PM

What a small world! I have been talking with the seller of the pin in discussion, and she was an IN Gamma Pi Phi as well!

I'm trying to win this pin so I can pass it down through my family as a tradition. We'll see if I get it!

Lady Pi Phi 11-18-2003 08:50 PM

I would bid on some of the pins because some do start the bidding off really low. unfortunately, most only ship to the US so I can't get even if I could afford it.

dakareng 11-19-2003 12:45 AM

Just a couple replies to different posts in this thread...
*Ohio Alpha is Ohio University, Athens OH (Ohio State is Ohio Beta).
*There is a songbook with a tape and sheet music as cherub mentioned. Your other, and quicker option is the new member CD-ROM. Speed thee my arrow is one of the songs included on the CD! The songs were sung by a collegiate chapter (I forget which one) so it is easy to follow the words. There area 6 songs, all traditional ones that you'll hear at Convention too. Reruitment songs are not listed but if you contact the Director Of Recruitment and Collegiate Extension, she could provide resources for recruitment songs.

Has anyone ever ordered one of the totes off of there that's always on there? They are supposedly handmade? I'm just curious as to how nice they are...I'd like to get one if they are pretty decent!

Hey ladies,

Just wanted to make a comment to all of us fretting over our pins falling into non pi phi hands. As much as I hate the idea, we need to realize that the pins only have sentimental value to those who know it's meaning, and other people (collectors, auctioneers) can only attatch value to it because we do. So don't worry too much about the pins being owned by non-pi phi's. Just because you buy them doens't mean you know thier true value:)
However, the thought of initiation manuals falling into the wrong hands scares me...Nothing actually secret is in them, but set up and what-not is in there, and I don't know about you guys, but I consider that pretty secret, too.

Pi Phi Love,
C.

Rescue me...ebay

Sorry to crash again, but there is a Pi Phi Pledge pin on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

Lady Pi Phi 02-15-2004 06:17 PM

How does a pledge pin get on ebay?

Jill1228 02-15-2004 06:27 PM

Girl, I dunno. I have seen several pledge pins from GLOs on ebay, including AXD and Alpha Phi. Makes me wanna holler!

erniegurl00 02-16-2004 01:38 AM

It would be easy. A girl could depledge from a sorority and run off with the pin. It almost happened when I was pledge educator. The girl who left forgot to give back the pin, and I had to go and hunt her down to get it back!

dakareng 03-01-2004 11:56 PM

Since we have some members of West Virginia Alpha participating on the GC Pi Phi board, I thought you'd be interesting in an item I found tonight while surfing ebay;
**a vintage (1931) Pi Phi badge with pearl shaft that belonged to a WV Alpha! The bidding is currently at $50... crown pearl badges currently sell new for ~$100 so this is a bargin and is your heritage... it would be great if a current WV Alpha got it!

There is also a pin they list as "vintage" that came from an estate sale that are the greek letters. It can be worn in non-pin attire or on outer clothing. Those pins were, at one time, sold as "Brother Pins" (before having Arrowmen was banned for fear of losing our 'single sex' status as an organization)-- that's your trivia for the night.

WVAlphaAngel 03-02-2004 03:57 PM

pin

oh my god, i love that pin. it belongs back at our chapter. I just hope nationals wont out bid me. I heard they tend to do that. i am even considering calling nationals and telling them that i am a pi phi so that they wont try to outbid me. that is absolutely amazing.

dakareng 03-02-2004 06:51 PM

If it is someone from "nationals" meaning our Archivist, you'll see the bidder's name as piphiarchivist, or simply archivist.

I think you'd be safe there-- they don't have the $$ to bid on every pin that comes up and would only go after true heritage pins (those older than 100 years)/ I think we'd all rather see this pin back in the hands of someone from the original chapter!

Good luck!

New York Delta badge

Found a badge on ebay. It's from new York Delta.

It says it has the the name, date, and chapter engraved, but you can't see it in the photos.

I hope this stays in the Pi Phi family.

gphib_95 07-07-2004 02:22 PM

I saw the I C Sorosis pin also. Wow, what a great pin to have. I hope one of you can snag this one and not a collector!

It is so neat, wish we could save it!!!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 07-09-2004 01:02 PM

almost a thousand dollars and 4 days left.

i hate collectors

IvySpice 07-09-2004 02:53 PM

Wow, what a find. I saw the IC badge and came by to make sure that someone here had noticed it -- as of course you had.

piphimaggie 07-09-2004 06:51 PM

One of my sisters emailed the piphi list at our school about that pin...she said she emailed the high bidder asking about their intentions if they were to win the auction. I emailed her asking whether she's received a response or not, I'll let you ladies know what she says. It's a gorgeous pin...I cant believe the man doesnt want to keep such a cool part of his family history around :(

HotDamnImAPhiMu 07-09-2004 11:39 PM

He probably doesn't "get" it. After all, the woman writes that she doesn't even know who exactly the pin belongs to.

I told the current Mr. (non greek) HotDamn about it, and he was like, "for the PIN? I thought the secret stuff was in the letters?" which I thought was pretty insightful for someone who doesn't have a GLO of his own!
