I'm pretty sure A&A used the groups' symbols. Arrow for Pi Phi, Owl for Chi-O, Dolphin for Tri-Delta, etc.

I'm also sure the new members are celebrating with their new sisters, so that's why we haven't heard anything. :D

MSKKG 10-06-2003 09:12 PM

My hometown PNM pledged Chi O, but that's all I know. Her mom will send details later.

Angels&Arrows 10-06-2003 09:23 PM

I thought about being cryptic.. but that is not me... I do try not to hurt people's feelings with my forwardness though... and I always try to have tact.

The symbols are the symbols of each GLO... though, for a minute I thought it would be fun to switch the symbols around!!!!!!!!

The MS Beta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi pledged 91 NMs today, 16 of them are legacies---Bringing Chapter Total to 236!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to everyone at Ole Miss for a great rush!!! I do not have all the stats yet, but I understand that 9/9 chapters made quota!

ETC: Thanks to HottyToddy's information... All Chapters made quota.. That means the smallest chapter on campus has over 180 members!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine that your smallest chapter has 180 members? That is a great Greek System!!

Angels&Arrows 10-06-2003 09:47 PM

MSKKG 10-07-2003 07:30 AM

According to the Daily Mississippian, quota was 86, not 85 like we thought. The article also said that they all made quota, so our info was right on that one!

About 1,500 join greek organizations

by Melissa Sindelar
DM Campus News Editor
October 07, 2003

About 1,500 students found new homes Monday as they received their bids from sororities or fraternities.

Almost 800 females, or about 92 percent of total Rush participants, and nearly 700 males or 85 percent, received placement in a greek organization, according to Jason Dean, consultant for Greek Life.

"We're just as happy as we can be," Dean said. "This is definitely one of the better ones we've had."

A record number of Rush participants, both male and female, participated in recruitment this year. Just under 900 females and about 780 males participated in Rush.

The 15 percent enrollment increase caused the Panhellenic Council to create a new group for the female Rush participants, resulting in the first round starting an hour earlier and a 20-minute break.

Another new aspect of recruitment this year is the use of a new computer system. Many rumors flew around this weekend of problems with the computer system, and female Rush participants getting mistakenly cut from Rush. These rumors were unfounded, said Sara Fay Peters, Panhellenic public relations contact.

The computer system worked fine, she said, but the council wanted to transfer information to Excel and print.

"It was a printing problem," Peters said. "We were trying to make it easier for the girls. It was just mixed up. So we called the girls back, and they went to the education building and did it on the computer. Nothing was wrong with the way the system is set up."

Peters said all Rush participants had to come and fill out the forms again in order to keep it fair when the mix-up occurred Saturday morning.

Peters said everything turned out "fabulous."

All nine sororities made their quota, Dean said. The quota was set at 86. This number is found by figuring out what percentage of Rush participants will join and dividing that number by nine.

Dean said the "new regret with interest" used by the Panhellenic Council helped with the high placement.

"Regret with interest" is a system used on other campuses, Meredith Padalino, vice president for recruitment, said in an earlier interview.

After the first round ended, female Rush participants could only go back to six houses in the second round. They could cut one house with regret to let that sorority know they had to cut them, but they are still interested.

The sorority could have issued an invitation to that female for the third round or Pref night. It was then up to the Rush participants to decide if they would visit that sorority as one of the three they could visit in round three.

Battle Ewing, Interfraternal Council president, said Rush went well and he was happy about the placement percentages, which were higher than last year.

The computer system and printing did not create any mix-ups for the male Rush, he said.

honeychile 10-07-2003 08:17 AM

IMHO, the concept of "regret with interest" is definitely a good idea!

imsohappythatiama 10-07-2003 09:05 AM

Congratulations to DG and Kappa, and to your girls!!!

And what a great story about the power of "regret with interest"...I love to hear about campus-wide successful recruitments, where every chapter makes Quota!

Star 10-07-2003 03:53 PM

Could someone please tell me what houses "dagger, ladybug and panda" would be? These were the only ones I couldn't match! Thanks.:)

ZTAngel 10-07-2003 03:57 PM

If she was going by sorority symbols, then KD is daggar, ladybug is Phi Mu, and panda is AOII.

mullet81 10-07-2003 03:57 PM

Anchor: Delta Gamma

Arrow: Pi Beta Phi

Dagger: Kappa Delta

Dolphin: Delta Delta Delta

Key: Kappa Kappa Gamma

Kite: Kappa Alpha Theta

Ladybug: Phi Mu (though i would have used a lion for Sir Fidel)

Owl: Chi Omega

Panda: Alpha Omicron Pi

aopirose 10-07-2003 05:16 PM

Congratulations to "A" and "W"! Congratulations to all the chapters at Ole Miss. Dozens and dozens of roses to NU Beta with 95 new members!!!

hottytoddy 10-08-2003 06:21 AM

Phi Mu at Ole Miss uses the ladybog more then the lion...even though the lion is the official mascot...you know Ole Miss & mascots though...can't ever get it right ;)

ladybug1116 10-08-2003 04:43 PM

actually, I don't know. :p what is the problem?

hottytoddy 10-16-2003 09:13 PM

To explain the whole mascot situation to those who don't know...our mascot was Colonel Reb (rebels)...they were going to change the mascot to something else because they thought it was controversial..they said that it was racist somehow even though col. reb was modeled after a black man...anyway..it was a big deal & now they aren't going to change it I think because so many alumni were pulling donations or something..
