LMAO! That is so what happened with me and MR. aj! I'm expecting our first child...our new Sigma Nu legacy...and his name will be Aidan James. I really thought we were having a girl, and I broke out my 'list-o-names'...and all were rejected because of some of the reasons you mentioned.

LXAAlum: I hope your 'after kids' quote hold true! I'm scared! (I've only got twelve weeks left! YIKES!)

smiley21: I LOVED the name 'Cadence'...but Mr. aj is in the Army and that was vetoed REAL quick!

damasa 09-27-2003 01:12 PM

I want at least two boys:

Connor Lee and Aidan Michael.

Possibly Caleb Matthew.

ROFLMAO!!!!

I always wondered when people gave their kids names like this if they EVER considered that their child would grow up to be an adult one day.

Originally, my mom wanted to name me Ivory-Francesca but luckily, it never happened. (could u imagine having the name Ivory-Francesca. Ivory is cool by itself but Francesca.  :p ) I think Ivory is a cool name for a girl.

awww thats hilarious - whats really sad is that people have ACTUALLY named their children these names!

I read in one of my baby books that in Pennsylvania (1970's I think) There were birth certificates for babys named "Pepsi" and "Cola"

Mine will be named:

Elisabeth Anne (after my mom) and
Frankie Jean (after my 2 grandmas)

Girls:
Claudia, Heidi, Johanna, Eva, Inga (pronounced eenga) or Natascha.

Boy: Matthew, Sean or Brock

ztawinthropgirl 09-27-2003 04:06 PM

I know this 5th grade teacher and one of her students name was spelled Vagina. It was pronounced Va-geena. Mind you this is about the time the public schools teach sex education.

My uncle knows a teacher in which one of her students a couple of years ago name was spelled Shithead. It was pronounced Shaheed.

Ahh, KillarneyRose, I LOVE the name Caroline...it is my absolute favorite girls' name and I hope to have my own Caroline someday in the distant future :D !

ADPiSAI 09-28-2003 03:56 PM

for girls:
Emilie Antoinette
Stephanie Christianne

for boys:
Joseph Stanley
Nicholas... something.

I'd never name my child after either my future husband or myself. My dad says that he sees far too many problems with credit reports at work because people always get them mixed up.

IHeartAXO 09-28-2003 07:05 PM

God, this is so far off in the future... but I definitely have my names that I like already! I love the whole 'last name as a first name' trend and I like unisex names. Not common ones, either.

Girls:
Reagan Brynn
Charlotte Spencer (Charlie)
Ava Tierney

Boys:
Jackson Carter (Jack)
Bennett Aidan (Ben)

Dionysus 09-28-2003 07:16 PM

Some of your kids are going to have some corny names.

Here's mine:

Boys
Andy Nicholas
Dan Michael
Marcus Scott
(named after the first names of the three guys I've ever liked and the runner-ups)

Girl
Alexis
Antoinette
Kimberly
Yvette
(from eldest to yougest their middle names will be my grandmother's first name, my mother's, and then mine-it's kind of like a family tradition)

Hootie 09-28-2003 07:38 PM

Good Question:

If I have any girls they will probably be named one of the following:

Debbon Paige
Ashley Nicole
Madeline Marie
or
Kennedy Michelle

If I have any boys they will probably be named one of the following (but the first born will probably be named after his father):

Ethan Alexander
Michael Debbon

LuaBlanca 09-28-2003 08:54 PM

I like older, classic names...and names from literature.

Girls:
Cora Aline
Isabella Adele
Juliette Clara
Kylie Mirelle (pronounced mee-ray)
Kennedy Alexandria

Boys:
Michael
Spencer
Thomas
Ernest
Ryan
Brian
Kevin

....i don't know about middle names for boys!

DeltAlum 09-29-2003 01:05 AM

What will strike you all, sometime in the future, is that all of the names that sound so original now, will sound overused then.

Our three are:

Kristin Marie
Megan Elizabeth
Zachary Thomas (Zak)

The middle names are "family" names.

Way back when they were born, those were fairly uncommon -- how many people with those names do you know now?

Here's a suggestion: Use names like John and Mary and they'll probably be the only ones in their class.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. :D

AEPhiSierra 09-29-2003 10:19 AM

I haven't matched up middle and first names yet but I have time considering how soooo single I am right now!

For Girls:
Esme, Brigid, Siobhan, Niamh (pronounced Neeve), Fiona

For Boys:
Seamus, Caleb, Colm, Patrick

I'm Irish - in case the names didn't give it away!

smiley21 09-29-2003 11:49 AM

THIS IS TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

(the following is taken from that webste on baby names)

"'In a few months I'm going to be a new mom, and we know its a girl. My dh and I have been discussing names lately (we already have six children: Jack Dominick, Rose Solenne, Monroe Charlize, Ophelia Eden, Heart Scarlett, Pascal Sebastien) "

Okay, I think this lady's lying. No two people could contain between them enough evil to conceive both of this many children and this many f'ed up names. Even a godless universe contains more rhyme and reason.

Phoenix (she was conceived in Phoenix)
Aedin
Cielle (see-ell)
Gracelyn
Maxime (max-eem)
Jasmine

These people, being either liars, new age cultists, schizophrenic Dungeons and Dragons players, Mormons, or all four, make most commentary on those preposterous names moot. However:

Every kid thinks the idea their parents have sex is nasty. So why oh why would you want to remind them of it every single time someone calls their name?

I mean, how 'bout some truth in advertising, here! Name her Ramblerbackseat.'

wreckingcrew 09-29-2003 02:14 PM

OK seriously,

all of y'all with your trendy names choices need to check out that baby names link and read all 12 pages. I had teachers keep poking their heads in my office cuz i was laughing so loud.

Haven't really given much thought to names for my kids. I was named John Odesas after my grandfather, and before my dad it was family tradition to switch the names. I just can't see naming my son Odesas John though.

I like Nikolas Alexander, like i said on the first name thread, that's what my mom wanted to name me. I think it sounds cool.

I've always liked the name Laura for girls. Mostly because i've had so many gal friends with that name :D

Kitso
KS 361 times the kids will bow down before my son, Maximus Odesas Kitso

Nahh... don't think your future son would want to be tagged 'Odie' for the rest of his life! :)

My grandfather was called Odie, and i love him, but i couldn't do that to my kid.

Kitso
KS 361 times his buddies can call him Kitso II

If I ever have kids....

If I ever had a daughter, I would definately name her Violet. (not sure about a middle name yet, but I still have at least 10 years to figure that out :p )

I like the name Violet because:
*All females on my mom's side of the family have an "ette" in their name in either their first or middle name, for some reason, and I figure it would continue the trend

*Violet is by far my favorite color.. I've loved that color since I was teeny-tiny

Even before I joined ADPi, I loved the name Violet, and now that I'm an ADPi (and the violet is our flower) that is kind of neat how that worked out :P

MereMere21 09-29-2003 04:52 PM

Its so very easy to pick out a name when you don't HAVE to!

I do caution everyone though that in addition to picking out a NON-trendy name, also don't go all crazy on the spelling. Whats just as bad as naming a child that could have terrible nickname possibilities, but naming a child something they will have to spell their whole life isn't fun either. "huh?" or "your name is what?"

Then you have the problem of wanting your child to be "unique" and not name her Emily only to have her grow up with 10 other girls named Emily.

I love the name Violet texas*princess, thats a very nice way of bringing your life full circle :D If I ever have a girl (I will welcome legacy vibes) I would like to use Rose for the middle name even though Mr. MereMere21 thinks thats corny. oh well!

Brigid is actually a different name than Bridget (and the variations on it). It's a traditional Irish name and is also my confirmation name. :)

My parents named me Anne and there was not another one in my class or in my entire school that I ever was aware of. However if I had been named Rainbow that would have caused issues. There were more "unique" names that made my "plain" name highly unique.

Most unfortunate name was Summer Eve!

Tom Earp 09-29-2003 06:34 PM

Peaches-n-Cream 09-29-2003 06:53 PM

My family has either family or Irish names. The new babies are Kristen, Anne, Brenna, Lauren, Ryan, Kayla, Johnny, Liam, Conner, Shane, Michael, and Dylan. The worst is the misspelling of Maeghan, but I still like the name.

I haven't heard of too many people in my real life who give their children awful names. My neighbor (and friend since we were four) has Samantha, Nicholas, and Amanda. Her sister has Kayla which has become popular lately.

I have noticed that there aren't too many newborn girls named Jennifer, Michelle, or Stephanie lately. There are tons of them who are my age.

If I become a mother, my children will probably have traditional Irish names. Of course, it depends on my future husband's last name. Brigid Horowitz and Patrick Gallo won't work. Well, maybe. :)

nhpgator 09-29-2003 07:43 PM

we just named our first daughter Isabella Rose -
Isabella after my grandmothers Belle and Elizabeth (isabella is the spanish version of Elizabeth)

Rose - is because she was born smack dab in the middle of our International Convention's Rose Banquet that I was supposed to be International Song Leader at - but she came late so I didn't make it to convention (the first one i have missed since my initiation!! - but we did get a gorgeous little legacy!) and because the rose is our flower!

if we have a boy - he will be Royce something - since all the men in my husbands familys are R's - Roger, Roger Jr. Ryan, Ron, Robert, Randy, Rodney, Rider. and Royce was his great great grandfather's name!

AlphaGamDiva 09-29-2003 10:39 PM

girls:

chyler (ki-ler) happy (my best friend and future child's god-mother's middle name is "happy" and i love it)

isabella/isabelle renee

boys:

luke simon or luke andrew (luke is my best friend who passed away)

malachi something....can't think of anything that flows well with that one, but i like it)

and yeah, me and derrick discussed kids names on our trip to the BG this weekend......whoa.

SigKapKatzue 11-15-2003 12:42 AM
