This may sound odd, but I know SO many people who have gagged at the thought of a Willie Nelson concert - until they got there! He's one of the few musicians who can cross almost any barrier with one song or another. I guess I should confess that, on another message board, Willie is my avatar! :D

Thanks, honey and t*p! I do feel much healthier and livelier.....and I'm working on the sexier ;) Now, if only the guys would hold up their end of the bargain and notice the new me, too...:D

Willie was actually at a HUGE country concert here in San Diego last year (he was the headliner), and my mom and I were going to bite the bullet so my step-dad could see him perform, but it was my step-dad who finally said, "Let's get out of here" We were so shocked!

WLFEO 02-01-2004 08:17 PM

Let's get this thread rolling again!

My news is...... hmmmmmmm........ I am trying to write a conversation workshop for how to extend conversation during FR. Any ideas? I mean, beyond the basics- how do we train our members to talk to the PNMs for 10+ minutes?

honeychile 02-01-2004 09:46 PM

I think I said this on another thread, but I honestly feel that everyone should always have a story or two "to dine out on". Basically, it's just a little, 5 minute story that tells something funny, something that you can tell to your pastor as easily as your sorority sister and they all find it funny.

Now, we all know that sorority women DON'T lead boring lives!! Each of you all have a great story in you, it's just a matter of developing it. Once you get it down (the right pauses, the right gestures, etc), it's your for life.

Oh, btw, when did I learn this? When I was in first grade. It's the sign of being a good conversationalist, and it was one of the most important thing I've ever learned. In all modesty, I was once asked to help at the Pref party for a colony, and one of the sisters I just never expected to compliment me told everyone, "Oh, I'm so happy that Honey is here - she can talk to anyone! I don't say that to brag, I say that because every one of you all have it in you to do the same!! Practice!!

*bump*

School is going great and I found out today I have 12 cr. hours left after this semester & I will be able to graduate!!

ADPiAkron 02-19-2004 11:22 PM

That is awesome!! I remember that was the best feeling evvvver!

Today I signed up for a second session of Pilates at the YMCA every Tuesday and Thursday....and also added Yoga every Monday!!

ADPiSAI 02-19-2004 11:24 PM

I can't believe I hadn't posted this before!
texas*princess reminded me of it....
I got this email a few weeks back from my advisor:

Hello Leslie,

I have checked your transcript.

Overall, you have enough credits to graduate.

You will have satisfied all the requirements for your Major in French provided you pass FRA266 (F03: you have a deferred mark) and FRA286 (W04).

Concerning the divisional requirements, you have courses in the
four categories. So, it looks ok to me.

As for your Music Minor, you will have to ask the Music Department.

Have a good weekend.

:D :D :D :D :D
it's been a LONG 5 years...

skerbow 02-20-2004 01:36 AM

Yesterday I signed up for ballet, and I'm determined to make my yoga class twice a week from now on... not just the once a week I've been going.
Yeah for alternative forms of exercise.

ADPiAkron 02-24-2004 01:39 PM

Holy Mackeral! I went to Yoga for the first time last night...I have a lonnnnnnnnng way to go before I have total balance and strength! I thought taking Pilates for 2 months before would help- boy did I think wrong!! But I am sticking it out!!

skerbow 02-24-2004 02:27 PM

YAY Good for you!

FirstAndFinest 02-24-2004 03:02 PM

Does this mean you will be GRADUATING this Spring?!?!?! How awesome! If you chapter doesn't do Jewel Degree (mine didn't, I never heard of it until I became an advisor), then by all means get it at Gamma Pi's Founder's Day on April 25!!

ADPiSAI 02-24-2004 03:08 PM

Re: COngrat, ForeverDiamond

You just made my day for the second day in a row!!!!

Yes, after 5 looooooooong years, I will be graduating! My chapter only does Jewel Degree during homecoming weekend, which is in the fall, and I've been kind of bummed because I know that it's not very likely that I'll ever be able to get up here for that. I definitely want to do it on April 25!!! I'm so excited to know that I'll be able to get it sometime soon!

YAY!! I'll get to meet both Leslies at Founders Day?? I am soooo going to try to make it up there!!

texas*princess 03-01-2004 12:33 AM

I just wanted to congratulate my Gamma Upsilon sisters on a good season of intramural basketball! :)

HBADPi 03-01-2004 10:06 PM

This is a little off subject but I am so thrilled that I might burst. One of my closest sorority sisters is getting married this summer and I'm in her wedding. They were planning on having the wedding shower during 4th of July weekend in Pittsburgh but because I'm out in CA and I will already have to purchase a ticket to fly out for the wedding I didn't think I would be able to make it for the shower.

Anyways I got an email from her mom last night saying that she knows how much Alyssa wants me at the shower and that she is willing to purchase my plane ticket for me and suprise Alyssa at the shower!! I'm honestly so touch by the gesture I thought I was going to cry last night. I'm more excited than ever for this summer! :D

texas*princess 03-02-2004 12:06 AM

Gamma Upsilon had their annual recruitment retreat at Lake Texoma this past weekend and it was a complete BLAST! We're are pumped up more than ever for formal recruitment next fall in our NEW HOUSE!

We all had a wonderful time and got to spend some quality sisterhood time together!!!

Watch out UNT sororities, ADPi is coming into recruitment with FULL FORCE! ;) :D hehehe!

Recruitment retreat is held every spring semester (although I'm not sure how long it has been going on.. my best guess would be the past 3 years at the very least). It's a time when we just get away for awhile for some quality sisterhood time & sort of as a way to "prep" our new Deltas for Spirit Week (since it can be a very overwhelming & busy time). We sing ADPi songs, discuss the general nature of Spirit Week and Recruitment, talk about how far we're going with the chapter goals that we set, and a couple of our exec members give us a mini-presenation on things that they picked up from DLC.

It is extremely fun to just get away from the house and all be together to get pumped up about recruitment and make our sisterhood ties even closer :)

skerbow 03-02-2004 01:04 AM

That sounds great! I know I always loved Sisterhood Retreat in the Fall!! :D It sounds like Mimbi is doing some great things there!!

ADPiSAI 03-02-2004 03:30 PM

pending school board approval and the completion of this mountain of new hire paperwork that's taller than me... I just got hired as a substitute teacher for grades K-8 in my town for as soon as I get back from school in April!

I also have a really good job possibility in the high school district... I'm not going to go into detail, but let's just say it would be ideal, if it all works out! *fingers crossed*

Retreats

I thought that a Retreat was to be held each semester, within 10 days of bid day. I know that the requirements for retreat are being revised with the revisions to the Alpha Ed program.

I think the *chapter* retreat must be held within 10 days of bid day, and that's the only required retreat. When I was MEVP, we had a sisterhood retreat in the fall and then the chapter retreat in the spring (following spring formal recruitment). The recruitment retreat is a great idea, especially for those chapters with recruitment in the fall (it sounds like). We had our spirit week usually the first week of December, about a month before the start of formal recruitment, but we turned it into a *retreat* for at least one or two days by going to a local church and having a sleepover there and some sisterhood bonding time! :)

skerbow 03-03-2004 12:22 PM

huh...we only did Fall Retreat, which was Chapter retreat. We never had one in the spring. It appears now we have a recruitment retreat, which is a great idea. But i had no idea there was a 10 day requirement following Bid day.

polarpi 03-06-2004 02:06 AM

Okay, so this is really random, but I just got off the phone with my grandma, who told me she's bringing me a pot of African Violets tomorrow when she comes up to get me (we're having a day out together). When she told me that I'm like, "That's my sorority flower" and she went "I know!" :)

But other than that, the other big newsy stuff is that I've so far lost 114 pounds since the surgery at the end of June, and I get to go to San Francisco for a day and a half next month! :)

I agree ;) but my mom and I are actually flying up there to go see a basketball game (our beloved Sacramento Kings are playing the Golden State Warriors there in Oakland, and we can't get tickets anywhere else like LA or Sacramento, so we decided to go this way to see them...plus I've never been to San Francisco in my entire life and I'm a CA native! That's just wrong! :D)

More news (yay!) I just went to my first ADPi alumnae association meeting, and it looks like I'll be the chairperson for Founder's Day next year (and I've also contacted the advisor of a local chapter to offer my help in any way to that chapter) :)

HBADPi 03-15-2004 08:44 PM

jen which alumnae association did you affiliate with? i didnt know there was one in san diego but I guess that would make sense since there is a chapter down there. I still have to do the paperwork for the OC association.

But GREAT NEWS!! I GOT A JOB :D I start after spring break and its going to be an AMAZING experience.

First off, congrats on the new job....yay! :)

I affiliated with the San Diego Alumnae Association. I can do some checking for an e-mail to send stuff to regarding membership, but I think the association is given a list of all the ADPi alums in the area to send mailings out to. I'll look for the e-mail and PM it to you, honey, so you can pass it on to Cheryl. They're a great group of women, those who I was able to meet at the chapter business meeting :)

texas*princess 03-17-2004 04:36 PM

Congrats on the job HBADPi !!!!

I hope it goes well for you! :) :)
