Saracasm really doesn't seem to work on this issue. Sometimes sarcasm proves a point, but it's just not happening here.
|
I don't mind prayer requests on GC. I think that religion is a personal private issue so I don't really discuss my faith here since I don't think that it is an appropriate forum. Other people feel differently, and that's great, too.
I actually have thought about praying for some of the people who make requests, but how would actually do it. "Please give fill in the blank from greekchat the strength to fill in the blank." I don't know, it seems irreverent to me. I might be wrong though. |
Sarcasm tends to succeed where repeatedly stating the obvious does not.
wptw P.S. Is this topic too "sacred" for sarcasm? |

Is Valkyrie your real name? And if so, whats your ethnicity? I was curious if you know what a Valkyrie really is? If you don't know what a Valkyrie is, it's a Norse deity. Valkyries were the women in the halls of Valhalla who picked up the slain warriors after they fought and died a glorious death. They also served meade (alchohol) to the warriors before they fought. I just thought it was kind of neat that someone was actually named after those women. |
I dont know for others but arent godlike figures part of most organizations. So what is so wrong for asking for prayer. My fraternity was founded at a Weslyan Campus we were built around christian beliefs so praying for someone or something is ok

I don't mind people asking for prayers on GC, because hey, if I don't want to pray for them nobody's going to know. But in the "real world" I think asking for prayers is a little rude and can make some people uncomfortable.
Ditto on the "Just don't read it" points made by wptw. |

DON'T YOU DARE APOLOGIZE FOR ASKING FOR PRAYER ON THIS BOARD!!!! :( If you need prayer, you need it - and believe me there are PLENTY of people on here that are more than happy to do it. I am sure that everyone registered on GC can find at least one topic that they are offended by in some way or another. If we were to stop posting topics because of this, this board would be blank. |
pray for me

So because you’ve been offended by some threads at GC, you should be able to start a few offensive ones of your own? Hmm, I like this idea. Kind of unChristian though, no? wptw |

Its simple...if there is a thread titled "please pray for.." and you don't want to view it, then don't view it. Just like if there is a thread titles "does your junk smell" and I don't want to view it, then I don't. This arguement really doesn't require some long, cleverly-written response. For once, I really do think the phrase "don't view it" really is applicalbe. |
DZHB,
Yeah, I knew what you were trying to say the first time. It came across clearer the second time, though. Well ultimately, I agree with you. I’ve always been an advocate of a minimum skin thickness prerequisite to get a GC username. I’m of the minority opinion on a lot of issues, so I completely expect to see a lot viewpoints that I find ridiculous. Not really a big deal. Sometimes you just gotta bow to the will of the majority. (I imagine Jehovah’s Witnesses feel the same way when they pay $65 for a ticket to a football game and the announcer tells the crowd of 50,000 people to please rise for the singing of the national anthem.) wptw EDIT: Quote:
Gurk! (majority rules, after all) |

The Grapist just wants pray.
Why won't you let the Grapist pray? :( |
In person, I always reserve asking for prayer for those people that I know DO pray. Why would I waste my breath otherwise?
On GC, if someone asks for prayer, I always pray. I have asked specific people here to pray for me. I've seen so many offensive thread (titles) or even ones that look like they may be offensive. Know what I do? I DON'T READ THEM. I do care if I offend people, and I hope that I don't, but I expect that if you don't want to read about prayer, you're smart enough not to read a thread with the words, "Please pray..." in the title. |

although i never pray for any of the requests, i don't understand how people could be offended by it??? get a life! |
This thread shouldn't have been moved. It has as much to do with the greek life forum as all those stupid prayer requests. Please stop praying, its pointless.

...and this post will be flamed by the flamers! Dang, religious folks, are you going to let him get away with that? ;) |
I'll pray for all y'all...
'Cuz what y'all need is Jesus... And if you ain't Christian and you are Buddhist... I'll chant for you... If not that... I'll tumble for yah... Hey... Isn't it getting like that scene in "The Mummy" and the guy was trying all the little sayings until the Mummy recognized one??? |
nah, man, whatever. I don't really care anymore.
|
If I prayed every time someone asked me to pray for their (dead/sick) (parent/sibling/grandparent/aunt's neighbor's dog's best friend) I would never have time to do anything else.
I think about and send good wishes to my closest family/friends and their loved ones. |
