I mean why is that so? We have freedom of speech written into our Constitution, which means one must RESPECT one's opinion and not try to sweep it under a carpet or insult someone for expressing that opinion.

I don't really think that Freedom of Speech has anything to do with "respecting" the opinion of another. Listening to it is one thing and allowing that person the chance to voice their opinion is also one thing.

Whether the person listening respects it is another. Freedom of Speech does not force this upon us.
