I'm definitely waiting for Cold Creek Manor to come out. Looks really scary, but not in a stupid horror movie way. The trailer had me freaked out. I really like the cast also--Sharon Stone, Dennis Quaid, and Juliette Lewis.

rainbowbrightCS 09-15-2003 05:11 PM

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter....

Yeah I am a freak?

bafromkc 09-16-2003 04:35 PM

rainbowbright-not to rain on your parade but those movies don't come out this weekend. thats ok though, I'm really looking forward to timeline and it doesn't come out for a while. we'll both just have to wait it out. :D

LeslieAGD 09-19-2003 11:36 PM

I can't wait to see Jessica Alba's "Honey" and Robert Downy Junior's "Singing Detective"

bafromkc 09-23-2003 06:34 PM

Robert Downey Jr is also in Gothika, it looks real scary. Put I just heard they pushed the release date back so that sucks.

I watched Leathal Weapon over the weekend. what a classic. I think Richard Donner is going to do a good job with Timeline.

Resurrection...

To Bring this thread back to life, Veronica Guerin is coming out this weekend!! I am really pumped for that one. I love Lethal Weapon, bafromkc, that movie is always a hit, every time I watch it. I also want to see Mystic River, but I am not sure if that comes out this weekend...

MeLikey 10-14-2003 02:25 PM

I really really want to see Mystic River too.

sigirl 10-16-2003 01:51 PM

I really want to see VG. My new bf is actually from Ireland (gotta love study abroad students) and he's already seen it. We're gonna go check it out together...he said it's worth a second go around.

krazy 10-16-2003 06:54 PM

Yeah, there have been really good reviews coming from europe. It should be great!!!

smiley21 10-16-2003 06:57 PM

mystic river looks awesome. i want to see gothika too

krazy 10-17-2003 03:15 PM

I have not heard much on gothika, but I am heading to see Veronica Guerin tonight, so I can come back and let you all know how it was... I bet it will be amazing, but I will have to wait and see.

smiley21 10-19-2003 10:50 PM

i just got back from seeing 'mystic river'. i have never seen a movie like that before. something about the mood of the movie was so somber and low key. but it sucks you in and you dont want to leave until it is over. it is an incredible movie. and i know the man is getting old, but sean penn was hot in that movie:p :p

krazy 10-20-2003 01:05 PM

Mystic River

My good friend saw mystic river, and loved it. I saw Veronics Guerin, and I stronglt reccomend going to see it. It was really good. I might venture to say the best so far this year. Cate Blanchett was incredible. A little too risque for the kids, but great overall.

bafromkc 10-20-2003 06:29 PM

i just checked out the new timeline trailer on the official site. its pretty good and its only offered online. worth a look.

did see any new movies this weekend but did see sum of all fears on showtime.

LSU girl - Did you know Dennis Quaid is also going to be in the Alamo? I am totally following this movie and can't wait for it to be released on Christmas Day. My sister's friend is actually in it - she is one of the dancers.

bafromkc - what is the website for the online Timeline trailer? That's another one I'm pumped for. Can you give us the link?

MeLikey 10-26-2003 11:34 AM

I saw "Radio." I thought it was pretty good, I esp. liked the stuff at the end... and I cried a few times.

Timeline trailer

MeLikey 10-29-2003 01:11 AM

I want to see The Human Stain.

GeoffZ 10-29-2003 02:20 AM

I saw the Human Stain the other week and it was pretty good. Not exceptionally great, but still good. I saw Kill Bill last night and really enjoyed it.

MeLikey 11-27-2003 01:04 AM

Oprah was praising The Last Samurai sooooo much on her show today-- Tom Cruise was the guest. I definitely want to see it.

kafromTN 12-01-2003 11:15 PM

Bump to bring this back to life
Movies I've seen:

Master&Commander...exceptionally great flick, great character development, great camera shots defintiely 4 stars plus no stupid love stories that ruined Pearl Harbor and other good movies.

Timeline...pretty good...wasn't exactly what I was expecting (I didn't read the book) and too many cheesy parts.I would say 2.5 stars

Bad Santa....good, I wasn't expecting much so it defintiely lived up to the expectations. This one is a good matinee movie, kind of vulgar...2 stars

The Last Samurai...before you call B.S. I saw it in Birmingham at a sneak preview....It was the best movie I've seen all year. It makes you feel for the character and helps you understand what he is going through, fantastic camera work, especially the battle scenes...some people probably will think it is too long, but it takes time to make you care for the character and have great battle scenes.

I'm still waiting on Return of the King to come out on December 17th

GeoffZ 12-05-2003 03:50 AM

I saw Cold Mountain tonight. It was very good. Great acting from Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, and Renee Z. All 3 and the movie itself deserve Oscar nominations. It makes me want to read the book now.

TigerLilly 12-05-2003 11:11 AM

I think it's been out for a while in the US, but I just saw "Love Actually" and thought it was the cutest thing ever!!! Loved it!

I wasn't a big fan of the book.

I didn't think it was very true to the life of the North Carolina mountains. But, then again, I'm the only person I know who didn't like it.

I refuse to see the movie because they filmed "the North Carolina mountains" in Transylvania somewhere. NORTH CAROLINA DOES NOT HAVE SNOW-CAPPED PEAKS, PEOPLE!!

There was a great cover pic of him & Billy Bob Thornton in full makeup on the cover of Texas Monthly this month. I'm looking forward to this one, definitely...even though alot of Texans are going to be extremely critical of it.

Am I the only one looking forward to "Cheaper By The Dozen?" Its fluffy, for sure, but I love Steve Martin in just about anything.

Really? I read (and liked) the book, but the movie looked terrible to me. It looked like it didn't really follow the plot of the book much, and appeared melodramatic.

Then again, preview seem to really not be a good judge of a movie's actual character.

kafromTN 12-05-2003 05:12 PM

Is "Cheaper By the Dozen" just a remake of the old movie of the same name?

-Mark

Technically...there was a 1950 movie version, but both are based on the book by Frank B. Gilberth Jr. and Ernstine Gilberth Carey (based on their family). (We did the play when I was in HS)

ansturge 12-27-2003 12:50 AM

watched cold mountain tonight with friends who have read the book

they said it really followed the book more so than most movies

I really liked it -- and want to read the book now

honeychile 12-27-2003 01:26 AM

Mr. honeychile & I saw "Love Actually" last weekend, and he's willing to see "Mona Lisa Smile" this weekend. :)

Since I go to the movies to relax and not discover world peace or a cure for cancer, I really enjoyed "Love Actually". There was one plot sequence I would have left out, but other than that, it was a cute movie.

Maroon5grl 12-27-2003 02:33 AM

honeychile - The plotline about Colin who goes to America, or about the porno actors? It's got to be one of those two.

My favorite story in Love Actually was Keira Knightley's..."To me, you are perfect." Aaaahhhh cuteness!!! I am eagerly anticipating the dvd. I love that movie.

Celestia*Shine 01-03-2004 09:17 PM

Cold Mountain

I saw Cold Mountain last weekend, and although I thought that Renee Z. and Nichole were outstanding in this, I wan't impressed with the movie. It was really sentimental and very moving, but it was the typical love story. I thought that it was also pretty graphic with the war scenes, and I know that its realistic, but its a little bit too gorey for my taste. I want to see Mona Lisa SMile. Sounds like a chick flick that I would love!

I heard somewhere that the porn actors' storyline was cut in the Asian release because it was seen as "inappropriate". As for Colin's plotline...WEIRD......

Actually, it's a toss up! I think they both cluttered the movie.

Yes, "You are perfect" was WONDERFUL!!!

Has anyone else seen Mona Lisa Smile? We left somewhat, confused. There wasn't a sense of impowerment, or good conquering evil, or any definite emotion by the ending. I'd like to see it again, just to re-think it - when it goes to the cheap theatres!!

honeychile 01-03-2004 09:40 PM

Sorry about the double post - this is a good interaction site for Love, Actually: http://www.loveactuallythemovie.com/

SATX*APhi 01-03-2004 09:41 PM

  • Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!

  • Jersey Girl
  • The Alamo (A MUST SEE!!!)

My favorite was that of the Portuguese woman and her employer.

honeychile 01-03-2004 09:49 PM

Okay, a question I have about Bridget Jones.

We all agree that Renee Zellweger is just adorable, but instead of her putting on 20 pounds and then taking them off, why didn't they just get an actress who is cute & 20 pounds heavier?

Bridget Jones without Renee? The movie would be a flop!

GeoffZ 01-04-2004 03:53 AM

Yeah, Bridget Jones without Renee wouldn't be the same. SATX*APhi, I want to see most of the films on your 2004 list. I already saw Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. It was surprisingly good. I'll add Troy, First Daughter, Alexander, and Stay to the list.
