I feel like such a loser
I had no idea that this thread had hints to solving the web thingie, so I have been SLAVING over my computer to figure it out, lol. I coulda just read the whole thread. I think the phone calls were cool. I love stuff like this! :D
N4L, is the book similar to this or something? I'm going to buy it today. :) And I haven't even read the book that I need to read for chapter next month. :o Thanks for hippin' us to this! |
I would say that they book deals with the same type of things. The website introduces themes contained in the book. I can definitely say that I am addicited to it ( the book). My husbands whines about me having my nose in the book when he wants some attention.
|
Not to give too much away, but the book deals with the Holy Grail.
|
Okay, who besides myself and Everclear have either read the book or are reading it now?
|
OK, the website was cool. I really want to read the book though. I should have bought it when I was at the bookstore the other day.

I'm done!
I finished reading the book last night and I really did enjoy it. It really made me think and examine some of my beliefs. I love any book/movie that can offer that. The end left me a bit , but I don't know what else I was expecting. I guess I just wanted some finality. I won't say any more for those of you that haven't read it yet. For those of you that have read it, let's discuss.
|
I can definitely agree that it will challenge your view on the way the past was recorded. During my time reading it, anything that was brought up as a point of reference i went and checked out. Oddly enough alot of it seemed to agree with the book. One thing i can say...it doesn't challenge the message of God, which i think is an important factor.
|
You are so right. I can understand why a lot of Christians might be offended by the book, but like you said, it NEVER questions the existence of God. In fact, it confirms it. I won't get into the whole Jesus/Mary Magdalene debate on here, but it was intersting, to say the least. And, like you, I want to analyze everything that was mentioned in the book. I visited the Louvre about two years ago, and man do I wish this book would have been written back then. I guess the internet will have to do until I can make it back. I also now want to visit some of the other churches that were described. They do really exist, right?
What did you think of the ending? Were you expecting more? I guess if they had told us more, they would have had to kill us, lol. |
Quote:
I was expecting a little more but i guess if it was any more then i would have made the story unbelieveable. There is a note in the book that say that the names and places are all facts. So the churches that were mention exsist. I had never heard this spin on the story of Jesus before but it does make a sistah go HMMMMM? Never the less... it does respect the 'message' of God. Which is more important than anything. We all may have different names for Him but the concept is all the same. |
Bamboozled, I finished the book the night before you did! I was in Ohio and wanted to hurry up and just get it finished since I had the time. It's odd, because I read this book RIGHT when I had begun questioning a lot of my beliefs. It was very interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be doing some research as well. I already looked up pictures of The Last Supper online, and the book was right about that, too. So interesting. I think they should make it a movie.
I wasn't upset with the ending, but that's because it exceeded my expectations: I didn't expect anyone to actually FIND the resting place, y'know? So I thought that was cool. |
Whoa....
I just checked out The Last Supper online and that isht is AMAZING. I would have never noticed it. Clearly a woman. And Peter is clearly not feeling her, lol.
I was thinking they should make it into a movie too. Who would you want to see play the characters? Here are some of my choices (bear with me on the spelling of these names, I don't have the book with me): Langdon: (I don't know, but I picture him with dark hair and kind of tall) Teabing: Robert Dinero, LOL Fache: (I can't think of the guy's name, but he plays a cop in almost every movie he's in... mole on his face, dark brown hair, kind of short) Sauniere: (I don't know who could do "THE" scene, lol.) Sophie: Gwenyth Paltrow Silas: Marylin Manson Aringarosa: Fill in the blanks! |
Re: Whoa....
Quote:
Collet: Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde) Sophie: Jodie Foster Silas: the dude that played Powder or Pinhead from Hellraiser Aringarosa: Robert DeNiro I have to think on the others. |
Research
For those interested in researching more about the topics that came up in The Davinci Code, I used this website and it was very helpful.

I read the book and I enjoyed it. I remember in in middle school or high school our teacher told us about the possible hidden messages and mockery in the paintings. Last night on Entertainment Tonight, I heard them say the book is going to become a movie. The hard part would be to find the right actors.
|
You are right chrini. The Davinci Code will be made into a movie and Ron Howard (Opie from the Andy Griffith Show) direct the movie and his production company will produce it. He's not a bad director. I just hope the casting is good, because that will make or break the movie.
|
I just had a thought, Anthony Hopkins at Teabing! or Sean Connery!
|
Quote:
Anthony Hopkins is a great choice. Just finished the book last night. IT WAS GREAT! It held my attention the entire time. I even read it at work ( I know...bad me )! I was so interested because this is a theory I had never heard about before. Can't wait to see the movie! |
From a conceptual perspective, the DaVinci code is in the ballpark. If you really get into the Hebrew and Greek in the Bible, you'll find a lot of the same information there regarding mystery religions and the whore of Babylon.
If you like the DaVinci code, I also recommend you read a series of books called The Alberto Series. It is the autobiography of a former Jesuit Priest, Dr. Alberto Rivera, who exposes the mafia- and occult -like atmoshpere of the Catholic Church. The books are written in comic book form so it's easier to understand and visualize what Dr. Alberto Rivera was saying. You can find the books at www.chick.com. |

As I mentioned before, The DaVinci code, from a big picture perspective, had a lot of accuracies in terms of man-made religions and doctrines. But there are definitely some inaccuracies. For example, if you study Josephus, the first-century historian, you know that the Hebrew culture at the time of the Last Supper doesn't align with the picture a lot of us grew up with. |
ABC Primetime is showing a story about the book and the legend right now. It's called Jesus, Mary and DaVinci.

Did anyone catch Dan Brown (the author) on Good Morning America? I only saw the end of it, but he was saying that there are 4 secret messages/codes hidden on the book cover. Now, y'all know I studied the cover. I've found one, but I don't know what it means. He's been contacted by readers regarding only one of them (probably the one I found) and I think there's going to be some kind of competition to see if anyone can figure out all four. He gave a clue as to where one of them is, but I can't figure it out. Supposedly, the first line inside the front cover flap, "While in business in Paris..." is somehow a code. The only thing that stands out to me is that the "i" in the word business seems to be bolder than the other letters. But, that may just be my book.
Also, I just finished reading "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. I know Ideal08 was reading it too. Did you finish it? It started out very slow, but whoa, did it pick up. I enjoyed it. Has anyone else read it? Let's discuss. |

I bought it and haven't started it yet. I'll start it this weekend and try to finish it so we can discuss! |

I found out the hidden messages on the book jacket refer to the context of Dan Brown's next Robert Langdon story. Go to www.thedavincicode.com |
Whew!
It took me 2.5 hours and I missed Law and Order but I found the clues/messages. Try it--it's fun. I can't wait for the next Robert Langdon story. :D

Next I will look at the cover of The DaVinci Code to see these clues y'all talkin' 'bout.... |
has anyone read "Secrets of the Da Vinci Code"? I just bought it the other day but haven't read it yet.
|
I'm almost done with Angels and Demons. Right now I can't decide which book I like best. Side note: The next Robert Langdon mystery will deal with Masonry! After I finish reading A & D I'm gonna be starting on 'Digital Fortress' one of his first books. I'm totally hooked on the Robert Langdon series though. Very good reading!
|
For those of you who are convinced of the veracity of The DaVinci Code, be wary. The gullible are easily seduced by his "facts" and storytelling. Many of his "facts" and subsequent conclusions include much conjecture and the linking of many "suppositions". I don't want to spoil any future readers enjoyment of the book by solidly debunking much of the storyline with facts that don't align with his theories, but much is not as true as he proposes.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Tom Hanks (news) is expected to step into the scholarly shoes of Robert Langdon, the professor who unravels the mystery of the Holy Grail in the film version of Dan Brown's phenomenally successful novel "The Da Vinci Code." Hanks has emerged as director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer's top choice for the lead role in the film, which Columbia Pictures hopes to begin shooting next year. And talks have begun for the actor to join the project. I can't wait to see this movie!!! I wonder who else will be cast. Soror Bamboozled, Tom Hanks is tall with dark hair and that's what you wanted for Langdon! :) |
When I saw this I thought; yeah, I can really see Tom Hanks as Langdon.
