Sounds like you had a wonderful time! I hope you find a Greek home. :) Best of luck!

GPhiBLtColonel 08-21-2003 12:58 AM

Loved your beach references and enthusiastic commentary -- yours is one of my fave rush threads!! Can't wait to read the next installment!

P.S. I went to high school in Huntington Beach (Edison); body surfed at the North Shore; sailed my Hobie Cat at Destin (lived in Mary Esther!) and hubby used to live in Myrtle Beach!:)

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-21-2003 02:42 AM

those beach references were too cute :) I wish you the best of luck :) have a great time!

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 07:41 AM

rainbowbrightCS 08-21-2003 09:04 AM

How much longer do we have to wait to find out which beach she can go back too.

Chris

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 09:40 AM

Ok girls and guys...

i got invited back to 4 out of the 6. My top 4 choices were real close together...so thats ok. I got invited back to Myrtle beach, Destin, Surfside, and Galveston. Today is philanthropy day, and i love that stuff...so maybe that will make them all want to invite me back tommorrow!

EtaPhiZTA 08-21-2003 09:55 AM

Congratulations on your four invites! Have a great time at Philanthropy Day; that was always one of my favorite days as well! :D

Congratulations and good luck today!

If you are comfortable, will you tell us the four chapters you are going back to today? (Just the names, not which beach equals which chapter)...

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 10:06 AM

Alright..no telling whos what beach..

but im going back to Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, ADPi, and Alpha Phi.

AOII_LB93 08-21-2003 10:10 AM

Congrats! You've got 4 wonderful chapters to go back to. Have a great time!:)

honeychile 08-21-2003 10:18 AM

Whoa, Txnsurfinwaves - you've got the top chapters covered! Have fun "on the beach"!!

KappaKittyCat 08-21-2003 10:53 AM

Woohoo! Congrats on your invites. 4 of 6 is nothing to sneeze at. Have a great time today. Get dirty!

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 11:01 AM

Question..is it ok to wear a skirt for philanthropy day? Its really all I have since we only have 3 days of rush before bid-day..for NCL i dressed up all the time to do philanthropy so I figured it would be ok..I asked a kappa girl and she said it was fine..but what are yall's thoughts?

ZTAngel 08-21-2003 11:03 AM

Some of the philanthropy projects may require you sit on the floor instead of in a chair. If you are sitting on the floor in a skirt, it may cause you to be uncomfortable the whole time since you'll probably be concentrating on making sure the skirt is covering all necessary areas so that nothing private is made public (if you get my drift....).

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 11:04 AM

its not a short skirt..its a to my knees skirt..that might make a difference though..its just I have no more nice pants..well, black pants! YESSSSS

aephi alum 08-21-2003 11:16 AM

You might also be doing something messy for philanthropy day... we didn't have a philanthropy round when I rushed, but from what I've seen since, you might be using paint, glue, magic markers, etc. to make something, so you want to wear something that you don't mind so much if it's damaged.

I'd still suggest something cute / nice looking, I'm not suggesting jeans and a ratty old t-shirt :)

Congrats on your invites :)

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 11:18 AM

I think im going with the black panksthat have ties at the bottom- i thihk they are supposed to be capris, but since im so short, they go to my mid calf =). They are a jean material but look very nice...casual dressy at best. I have a nice shirt and I know these pants can be fixed if damaged. Id like to look casual classy...Im so ready to earn about philanthropy! I love community service...so this is MY day to shine!

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 11:20 AM

pants*- maybe i can be the inventor of panks :p

breathesgelatin 08-21-2003 12:04 PM

Sounds like you're having a great time! That outfit sounds fine to me for philanthropy... :)

EtaPhiZTA 08-21-2003 12:05 PM

I absolutely love your positive attitude! Enjoy your parties and SHINE!!!!

volgirl2376 08-21-2003 12:07 PM

TX: Does your panhellenic or greek affairs have a website with information on what to wear? My school does: http://web.utk.edu/~sorority/Rexpect.html (you can even click on the photo to see the examples) and it says nice shorts or pants would be appropriate due to the reasons everyone has mentioned: craft projects = messy! :) Good luck girl!

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 12:30 PM

Yes..they do..but they say skirt or nice pants with nice top are fine. The first two days are kind of dressy casual, then we have pref, which im wearing a black dress for with a pink flower tucked behind my ear. Im hoping I get invited back to my faves! Ya'll pray for me! :D

pinkyphimu 08-21-2003 12:43 PM

this is sooooo exciting!!! good luck tonight!

Sistermadly 08-21-2003 12:45 PM

Good luck! Ride those waves! Rip those curls! Er.. surf those boards!

Does it show I grew up in a landlocked city? :D

TriDeltaGal 08-21-2003 03:37 PM

Good Luck! You have such an amazing attitude that I truly hope and believe that you will find your perfect fit in one of those great sororities you have to choose from!

APhiRattlerGal 08-21-2003 05:18 PM

Ahh. Good luck!! I'm so excited for you!!!

SATX*APhi 08-21-2003 05:53 PM

::happy dance, happy dance!!::

Today is YOUR day, like you said. Go out there and and do your thang. :) GOOD LUCK!

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 09:28 PM

Hi girls-

im being a good PNM and updating on time!

WHAT AN AWESOME DAY! I am in love with my Rho Gamma...she is so sweet and nice and has this nickname for me already...she ran up to me this morning and gave me a huge hug..it was really neat. I loved 3 sororities I went back to tonight...the 4th one, Galveston, just made me uneasy again.I really think this is why this chapter is so small..they are very snobby and superficial, but no other chapter Ive heard about from this group is like that! I think its just this one.

Surfside really showed me the good side today..I had so much fun here! I got to make cute little pots that they are putting seeds in and giving to the nursing homes. I met some AWESOME girls today who made me change my mind.

looking back at my post..i did messed up on the code names.
Myrtle beach and north shore cut me, not Hunington.

Hunington Beach impressed me so much today. So peppy, so fun, and the president is from houston and kept coming back to talk to me. I felt so at ease and could see myself right at home with all of those girls. So adorable, so cute, but im worried because they have the biggest chapter on campus and might not have that many openings. Im not sure how quota works and such.

Destin was AWESOME! They are my new favorites. I had these girls laughing like nothing else. At the end, they thanked me for entertaining them and for being so talkative and fun...that i made them have an amazing time talking to me. I hope they invite me back..but you really never know. Maybe they were laughing alot to humor me..who knows.

thats all..i find out who im preffing tommorrow morning at 9.

It's kinda confusing, but they evenly split the numbers to obtain the number for quota. So if quota is 40, all houses are allowed to take 40 girls, even if ABC has 130 and XY has 50. Depending on what TOTAL is, ABC would not be allowed to COB (if all 40 girls accept their bids), but XY would be able to (let's assume total is 120).

Formal Recruitment is the one time a chapter can go above total. It's so confusing, I know.

rainbowbrightCS 08-21-2003 09:46 PM

So you will know tomrow at 9am, when will we (GC) know?

J/k

what are you wearing tomorow?

I hope you find your beach of your dreams.

Chris

Txsurfinwaves 08-21-2003 10:04 PM

Ok..im wearing a black dress..which is REALLY HARD to explain. if this make sense- its longer on the sides and higher in the middle, and really flowly and swooshy(are those words?) but its not poofy. Im wearing a red flower tucked behind my ear.

You guys will find out around 10 my time. maybe 9 30 if your lucky!

Angels&Arrows 08-22-2003 02:27 AM

Okay.. It is soo much fun trying to figure out which beach is which house...

I have Hunington Beach, Surfside, Destin and Galveston figured out!!!!! Though I must admit, I was confused about Hunington! I guessed the chapter immediately by the beach description, but then you said the beach was not on your list for 2nd rounds... However, the chapter was one of the four GLO's you named that you were going back too! Now I see that you meant MB and NS, not Hunington!!!

I can not wait to find out where you go and if I am correct!!! How much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am happy you are having a great time!!!

I hope so too!!! I have really been working at this matching game!! I would love to know if I am correct!!! There is ONE that I am absolutely, positively sure I am correct!!! I am looking at the descriptions of the beaches, matching them with the chapters at UNT for clues!!! I feel like an Inspector!!!!

:D

navane 08-22-2003 07:31 AM

Hey Txsurfinwaves! I'm glad to her that you're having a fun time! You sound like a really upbeat kind of person! :)

Good luck with the rest of recruitment!! :) :)

Oh! By the way, Txsurfinwaves, I think you spelled one of the beach names wrong - and now others are spelling it wrong too! ;) You left out the "T" in Huntington. It's "Huntington" not "Hunington". :) The only reason I mention it is because for seven years I lived about 5-10 minutes away from that beach. I don't know which sorority it is, but I've been rooting for them by that fact alone! :)

....Kelly :)

Txsurfinwaves 08-22-2003 07:46 AM

oh lord. I make a typo and everyone follows me. HA.

my dad has the CA region for medical sales. I should have double checked my spelling..but come on, i spelled pants panks. =)
