Sorry to hear about ZTA. Good luck with the rest of rush - you have some great options :)

xo_kathy 08-18-2003 06:16 PM

Nichole,
We've hear where the others are off to tonight! What about you!?! Darn PC card...

pinkyphimu 08-18-2003 11:02 PM

do we *have* to talk to your bf about this???? lol...j/k.

i am glad that you have fun and i can't wait to hear about your updates for tonight!

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-18-2003 11:29 PM

Ok I am regretfully writing to let everyone know that I decided not to continue with recruitment :( I got my invites back today around 11 and oddly enough the 2 GLO's that I absolutly LOVED cut me and I was left with 3. two of them were just ok and the other well I didnt really click with anyone. I am guessing that it might have had something to do with grades since I dont know they were using the ones supposidly that they said didnt count or something I dont know its confusing I guess by my last semester when i had mono and all and didnt do too hot since i missed so much but whatever I guess I am just going to have to try to get my grades up to par these next couple of semesters and try again in the fall. I cried my eyes out after talking with my Rho Sigma but my mom informed me that maybe it just wasnt the right time for me since i have been having a bit of financial troubles lately. anyways I hate not being able to feed the addiction any longer but I think this was the right thing b/c I really liked those two groups and i really think Id be great there if my grades were better. :( sorry guys

Nichole

pinkyphimu 08-18-2003 11:38 PM

nichole,

i am sorry to hear this. did you officially drop out? maybe you should sleep on this and then make a decision. in your last post, you said that you were really open to all of the groups. i am sure that you are hurt bc your favorites didn't invite you back, but maybe one of the groups will surprise you in the next round. either way, i totally support your decision. i just hate for you to see everyone else continue with recruitment and wish that you given it another chance.

OUlioness01 08-18-2003 11:41 PM

nicole i'm sorry about what happend. maybe it is for hte best at the moment, but if you really want ot be greek don't give it up as a lost situation. i wish you the best of luck....and you better stick around on GC!

breathesgelatin 08-18-2003 11:57 PM

Nichole,

We are all thinking of you. It's rough to be cut. Stay strong and proud in your decisions. We're here for you.

absolutuscchick 08-19-2003 12:09 AM

:( :( I'm sooo sorry about the cuts but don't give up!!! If you've already for sure decided not to continue, then I hope that you have an awesome rest of the year and I hope you know that I am genuinely sorry about all the cuts, and good luck with your grades (I need to pull mine up too)...you'd better stay on GC!

AXO_MOM_3 08-19-2003 12:33 AM

I'm so sad to hear you decided to drop out of recruitment. :( Is there any chance of COB after recruitment or in the spring? Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-19-2003 01:09 AM

I know that a couple of the sororities do COB but thats only if they dont meet quota and i know that the ones that I was the most interested in ALWAYS meet quota. I dont think that I have ever heard of them doing COB Im pretty sure that they were both the first sororties on this campus i know that one of them was. I am ok with my decision I am pretty sure it was the right one, my rho sigma thought it was also b/c of my last semester grades she urged me to continue but I know that I couldnt really be myself knowing that the 2 places I felt most comfortable at cut me :( I am kinda hoping that they wont remember me next fall but the good thing is that I really got along well with everyone I met and i know that XO really liked me too at least 3 of the girls i talked to kinda hinted to me that they really hoped that I liked them and that I would continue to come back and all of that and I know that they say that alot but we really talked about how comfortable I was there and they were with me. I dont know Im hoping that it was my grades so that when I raise them they will remember how much they loved me and be able to keep giving me invites to the end since I'll have a higher GPA :D I really appriciate everyones support and of course Im going to stick around cause ya know i love ya guys. wow how awful is this that my rushing/pledging experiences just keep messing up but hey they do say that 3rd time is the charm lol I should have really waited till next fall anyway since my GPA had gone down a bit but they told me they wouldnt look at that since I did have mono and that was the reason for the Incompetes and withdrrawls and whatnot. I dont know anyways thank you so much for all your kind words. it has helped me alot.

http://superbabies.homestead.com/files/sad2.gif Hun, I'm so sorry to hear about you choice, but remember everything happens for a reason. Stay around on GC! http://superbabies.homestead.com/files/sad2.gif

amandamarie 08-19-2003 04:23 AM

Nichole -
I am very sorry to hear this news. I really hope everything will work out for you. Like everyone has been telling me, things happen for a reason. When it is your time, it will happen. Definitely stick around Sparklii, we've got so much GC love for ya!

mmcat 08-19-2003 07:07 AM

aww.....
of course, we support you and understand. work hard on the grades and the money side of the house and see where things fall.
be strong and keep smiling.

xo_kathy 08-19-2003 09:25 AM

Aww Nichole...:( I'm sorry!

So, if you do wait until next fall, what will your class standing be? Because I am worried that you may then have the age thing held against you? I'm not sure about MTSU's general feeling on "older" girls getting bids, but seeing as it seems hard for many "southern competitive" schools...I know you loved XO, and the other group that cut you, but you DO still have groups left. Look at amandamarie! She was so disappointed but went to Alpha Phi pref and loved it! She even said she felt like she was getting a second chance to see how great the house was (and she had already had 2 parties there!). And sugar and spice, who has proven to be a die hard DDD, told us how last year DDD wasn't in her top three for a long time! Maybe you should just keep going through rush and see if someone else sticks out to you. I know that might mean Chi O misses out on a wonderful PNM, but it means another house might just get her! I really think you should keep going. Nothing says you have to pledge...

Good luck!

AZpinkkittie 08-19-2003 10:25 AM

I agree Kathy. There have been tons of stories on GC about people being upset after getting cut, but sticking it out anyway, then loving the house they end up in. I say, stick it out until pref, then if you really don't feel happy, don't accept a bid. I would just not want to see you drop, then not get the chance to Rush again, or have an even more unsuccessful one because of class standing. I say give it a shot, until you sign that card, it's not to late to drop out...

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-19-2003 11:26 AM

but since I did not attend theme night I dont think that I can even attend pref. Im not sure exactly the rules on all of this but Im pretty sure I wouldnt be able to. I could call my Rho Sigma and see. As for my classification I will be a sophmore I will be much closer to a jr by next fall but unless I take more classes than planned I should still be a sophmore so Im not too awfully worried about all of that.

Nichole

honeychile 08-19-2003 11:31 AM

Nichole, I'm glad to hear that you're going to talk to your Rho Sigma! Know your options before you make a final decision, and if you bow out, make sure the sororities know that you did so "with regrets". They'll remember you as a woman with class that way, and will be more apt to consider you for COB.

Whatever you decide, please go with my best wishes!

GPhiBLtColonel 08-19-2003 11:41 AM

Nichole -- I hope you can get back in the process -- perhaps you can be snap bid??? I know you were sad to have gotten so many cuts -- I experienced the same thing too -- I rushed at Southern Cal as junior, an ROTC cadet (in the mid 1970's - ack!) and as a band geek -- I had three strikes against me and was rather promptly dropped by several houses...it almost totally crushed me! Thankfully I still had at least one GLO which was not my #1 choice at the start of rush - Gamma Phi Beta....but I still liked it. I had thought I wanted to be in another GLO where a really close friend was a member, but they cut me right before Pref... I am sooooooooooooooo thankful I did not drop out when my friend's house dropped me because I cannot imagine being anything but a Gamma Phi Beta:D

Please keep us posted -- we care!!!:)

xo_kathy 08-19-2003 12:36 PM

Oh, I didn't realize you hadn't gone to Theme night. I'm no NPC rush rules expert, but I THINK that may put you out of it. Well, good luck to you if you decide to COB, OR, if you do go through next year, I'm sure we will love your rush thread then, too!!! Good luck!

adpiucf 08-19-2003 12:56 PM

Nichole, I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but all things do happen for a reason, and in time, we learn the fuller meaning of "Why" they happen.

I wish you only best! It is possible to get snap bidded by a strong competitive chapter. It happens all the time, b/c they will make quota, but a girl or two will come to bid day crying because she didn't get her first choice and drops immediately. The sorority discreetly goes through their lists and makes a couple of of phone calls; the chapter members never even know b/c it is all handled on the DL. So if you can be asked to prefs, DO go.

I'm not promising anything, but sometimes these things DO happen, and who knows-- they could happen to you! I encourage you to kick butt this fall in school in try COB in the spring. You never know!!!!

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-19-2003 03:26 PM

ok well since i didnt attend Theme nite I will be unable to get a snap bid but its ok b/c Im just going to focus on my classes for the next year gosh I wish there was rush in the fall and Spring so I wouldnt have to wait an entire year :( oh well though Im sure Ill have well over 1,000 posts by the time im able to rush again GRRR but its ok I know that it all happened for good reason I guess Im just supposed to concentrate on my studies for now and do the sorority thing later but hey at least my mom is alot more into the idea so thats a good thing :) I wish everyone else the best of luck durring recruitment! Muah!

i am sorry to hear about what happened. but i am glad that you are looking on the positive. best wishes for you!

aephi alum 08-19-2003 06:48 PM

I'm so sorry. :(

AXO Alum 08-19-2003 11:51 PM

Nichole - remember, that when it comes down to it, only you can do what is right for you! If that means working on grades for another year - then go for it!! I know that any sorority would be proud to have you as a sister -- and you are going to shine like the stars at night to them :D

Don't believe what you may be hearing about COB'ing -- yes, often times bigger chapters are at total and cannot pick up, but things DO happen - even to the "biggest and best" on campus. One year at my school the greek advisor found out that almost HALF of the chapter roster were taking under 12 hours (which disqualified them from being on the roster) -- well they had two choices - remove those people or lose their charter. Of course they removed the people (from the roster I mean - they all got alumna status and most were seniors that were put in as "ringers" for recruitment anyway) and went from being #1 for numbers to being the smallest! Talk about some serious COB'ing going on!!

So keep your chin up -- GO OUT AND MEET PEOPLE FROM ALL SORORITIES!!! The more people you know, the better shot you've got at an informal event invite. And don't discount the groups that were "so-so" in your mind -- they may end up being your sisters (there are a lot of GC'ers on here that can relate to that!!)

Remember to always conduct yourself appropriately though - don't be "that girl" when it comes time for recruitment next year! Not that you'd ever be in that category :)!

I am pulling for you and know that you will make a lot of people very happy before its all said and done!!

Much love and prayers heading your way :) :) :)

honeychile 08-20-2003 12:22 AM

*echoing the above statement*

Nichole, we have been chatting with you since the Spring, and I think a lot of us feel like you're the sister we all WISH we'd bid! Whether it's your junior status, or grades, or whatever, I still feel that you may have been cut with deep regrets. Keep your chin up, show everyone the class & dignity that you've shown us, and wow them!

I'm still upset that there aren't "free juniors"! If you've made good friends in some of the sororities, keep them! Maybe you'll be able to COB - not Bid Day, but the next! If not, well, see if there are "free seniors". And if THAT doesn't work, there is Alumnae Initiation. Please check out that part of GreekChat.

I am sincere when I say that it would be a big blow to the Greek system if you're not part of it. You have too much to offer! Everytime I think of the times you've been so rational and caring to other pnms, I could just burst out in tears. You have shown more Panhellenic sisterhood than more than a few other posters I've seen over the years!

I'm here - we're here! - because we genuinely care, and want the best for you. Please let me/us know what we can do to help you - sincerely.

Your friend,
Honey

Thank you - Yes! I have mentioned that I'm a geriatric counselor, and work with a lot of Alzheimer's clients, haven't I?

SparkliiQTMTSU 08-20-2003 01:18 AM

Thank you so much for all of your encouraging words :) Im so glad that I have everyone here to help me through this. I was quite upset at first of course but I know that everything will work out in the long run. I decided to take things slower too and Im only taking 8 hrs this semester instead of my regular 14 so I can concentrate on work and family and of course I should be back to my 12-15 in the spring that way I WONT be a jr yet when it comes time for recruitment again in the fall. I'll just be a sophmore ofcourse very close to jr status but not quite there. hopefully that will help out too since Ive noticed that alot of jrs got cut early this year. and although I find that unfair I understand their thinking on it all. I cant wait for the year to pass I know its going to seem like forever but hopefully like most years its goingto fly by :D thanks again for everything everyone!! youve helped me out alot!!!

Nichole

breathesgelatin 08-20-2003 01:23 AM

You have a great attitude Nichole--focus on those grades and get the most out of this year. Are you a transfer student? If so, you'll probably get the opportunity to meet lots of new sorority women this schoolyear, which should help you out, too.

SAI MAYBE!!!

Ok, so I've been talking to the president of SAI here at MTSU and It seems like it's something that I really want to do. Since I have been singing and musically inclined since i was a baby, this is so for me. Most of the girls do play instruments but there are a couple Ive talked to in my Choral class that just sing like me :) Im thinking about going to some rush events in the Spring since they have finished their rush for the fall semester. Of course Im still going to go through Formal Recruitment again in the Fall next year but I have fallen in love with how SAI is and what its about! Just thought that I would update a little :) Of Course come spring I'll be sure and let everyone know how it goes :)

SAI is such a wonderful organization....I kinda wish I would've had the guts to check out SAI while I was in school, but as a non-music major and an individual that doesn't really like singing unless she's surrounded by a number of other people, they honestly intimidated me! My roommate from sophomore year and two of my other friends all pledged SAI, and also went on to be wonderful contributing members of Kappa Delta on my campus, so I know it is possible. Best of luck to you, Nichole....we're all rooting for you! :)
