We were dating for a year and 3 months before I asked her to marry me How long was the engagement? The engagement was a little over a year; I proposed in mid-May of 2004, and we were married in late June 2005, at our church in Boston. |

We had been dating just shy of 4.5 years (he proposed on Oct. 9th; Oct. 13th would have been 4.5 years). It was a long 4.5 years though (my mother died, I had some major surgery, etc. so we had some true tests mixed in that we passed with flying colors!!). How long was the engagement? October 9th - June 16th. About 9 months. I wouldn't want it any longer with the whole wedding planning thing! |

It seems that people meet thier husband/wife at all different ages. Some over 30 even. Id love to show this to one of my guy friends who believes that if a girl is not married by the time she is 30 its highly unlikely that she will ever get married. Since when is 30 so old? Anyone else hear anything like this. I am single so I dont know what I am doing in this thread ....

IMO that's why there are many failed marriages... people just trying to make it happen in the age "window" they think it's supposed to happen at, and just kinda marrying whoever they're with at the time, rather than waiting it out, and working on themselves and the relationship. How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped? 6 months. I met my husband a couple of months after I broke up with someone I had lived with for 5 years. The minute I met my husband, I was struck by how well we fit together, and by our third date, knew I was going to marry him. I wasn't in a hurry to get married (obviously!) and had to be semi-convinced that we should get married. How long was the engagement? 6 months. We got married almost a year to the day after we met. All in all, it's been a heck of a year. We're expecting our first child together on Christmas Eve.:) |

I personally think that a woman should have her own stuff that she can leverage in the relationship, like money, property and retirement. Yes, a spouse and you and still build on what they bring to the table. But, should the relationship end, and they always do either by divorce or death, then a behooves a woman to be prepared to have a safety net and security. And a pre-nup will not protect her unless it is her own. I have seen personally what happens to women when their maritial relationships end. Let's just say "no romance without finance is a nuisance". |

I was 20, he was 24. He was our Theta Sweetheart's best friend from home. :) We were "together" for about 1 year, 2 months when he popped the Q. I knew the day after I met him I would marry him, though. We were engaged for about a year and a half. Long enough for me to graduate college and find a job. We celebrate 7 years in September. It certainly hasn't been an easy road, but nothing worth doing ever is. :) |
