How old were you when you met your husband/wife?

I was 32

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?

About 2 years...no proposal really, just a decision to get married.

How long was the engagement?

About a year?

We just celebrated our 9th anniversary earlier this month.

1. Hmm...He was involved with a married friend of mine (I didn't have a clue..he was always there...strange really). But I REMEMBER meeting him for the first time in fall of 1987. We were officially introduced at aNew Year's Eve 1987 party (31 Dec 87) at said married friend's house. We had a cute flirtation for a few months (always around said friend..he was really her puppy dog...LONG story) and had our first official date on 6 June 1988. He fixed me a Prego spaghetti dinner and I never went home. :) We have been together ever since. (Yes married friend has since divorced and remarried and is a VERY close friend of ours..it is so complicated..but she gave me the greatest gift :)) So that makes me 28 and him 32.

2. OFFICIALLY accepted proposal came on Christmas Day 1990. We had already had Sageofages son # 1 and were happily co-habitating. He had asked probably a dozen times before, but I wasn't in a hurry and it was working just fine :). I like to remind him I didn't get an engagement ring, I got an engagement baby :).

3. Official engagement ended with nuptials on 13 April 1991. So...3 months and 20 days. :)

Pair bonded and soulmates ever since........

How old were you when you met your husband/wife?
I met my wife when we were both sophomores in college; we were friends, and started dating our junior year, when we were 20.

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?
We were dating for a year and 3 months before I asked her to marry me

How long was the engagement?
The engagement was a little over a year; I proposed in mid-May of 2004, and we were married in late June 2005, at our church in Boston.

How funny! I didn't get an engagement ring, either. I got an engagement dog...

1. Hubby and I were both 19 when we met at an off-campus party. We started dating about a month after that.

2. We dated about 5 months before he popped the question, sort of. Since he didn't have a ring, he wanted to test the waters to see what I'd say to the question, "Do you think you have to have a ring to be engaged?" Since I said no, he asked the BIG question and I said yes. The next day we went to the pound and got an engagement dog. :)

3. The engagement lasted two years, and the marriage has been going strong for eight. The dog, too, is still happy and healthy.

ZTAngel 06-19-2007 01:57 PM

Cheating, as I'm not married YET ...

We were both around 11. Sixth grade :)

We'd known each other for eight years before we became engaged (although we hadn't been dating all of that time - only about 1 year).

We'll have been engaged for about 3 years and 9 months when we get married this October.

It was the end of our sophomore years in college. I was 20 and he was 19.

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?

We had been dating just shy of 4.5 years (he proposed on Oct. 9th; Oct. 13th would have been 4.5 years). It was a long 4.5 years though (my mother died, I had some major surgery, etc. so we had some true tests mixed in that we passed with flying colors!!).

How long was the engagement?

October 9th - June 16th. About 9 months. I wouldn't want it any longer with the whole wedding planning thing!

It seems that people meet thier husband/wife at all different ages. Some over 30 even. Id love to show this to one of my guy friends who believes that if a girl is not married by the time she is 30 its highly unlikely that she will ever get married. Since when is 30 so old? Anyone else hear anything like this. I am single so I dont know what I am doing in this thread ....

I'm 22 and single, and it doesn't bother me. I have sorority sisters who have said that they will "just die" if they aren't married by 25.

Answers:

19 -- she was within a couple months of 18

Question was never really "popped." It just kind of became obvious and was one of those "understood" things after a while.

Due to the above, there's no real answer. We dated about four years.

We will have been married 33 years one week from today.

happy 37th anniversary, DeltAlum! (unless yalll hit splitsville... then i take it back...)

IMO that's why there are many failed marriages... people just trying to make it happen in the age "window" they think it's supposed to happen at, and just kinda marrying whoever they're with at the time, rather than waiting it out, and working on themselves and the relationship.
That of course isn't to say that there aren't some people who are completely ready by 25 to take that life long plunge, I just think it's sad that people feel badly if it hasn't happened for them yet by then... IDK... shrug
Steps off soap box...

30 Really isn't old....

How old were you when you met your husband/wife? 36

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped? 6 months. I met my husband a couple of months after I broke up with someone I had lived with for 5 years. The minute I met my husband, I was struck by how well we fit together, and by our third date, knew I was going to marry him. I wasn't in a hurry to get married (obviously!) and had to be semi-convinced that we should get married.

How long was the engagement? 6 months. We got married almost a year to the day after we met.

All in all, it's been a heck of a year. We're expecting our first child together on Christmas Eve.:)

Dr. Laura Schlessinger says folks should not get married after they are 30... That is if you believe what she says.

I was 34 when I got married.

I do not think it is the end of life after 25ish if a woman chooses not to marry. The reasons are legion. I personally think that a woman should have her own stuff that she can leverage in the relationship, like money, property and retirement. Yes, a spouse and you and still build on what they bring to the table. But, should the relationship end, and they always do either by divorce or death, then a behooves a woman to be prepared to have a safety net and security. And a pre-nup will not protect her unless it is her own.

I have seen personally what happens to women when their maritial relationships end.

Let's just say "no romance without finance is a nuisance".

How old were you when you met your husband/wife?: We MET when I was 19, did not start dating until I was 20 (but only a few months before I turned 21). I STRONGLY disliked him when we first met sophomore year LOL!

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?: We had been dating just over 4 years, but knew eachother about 5 1/2

How long was the engagement?: 10 months

We will have been together for 9 years in July, married for 4 on August 19.

IrishLake 06-08-2010 12:56 AM

nice bump!

I was 20, he was 24. He was our Theta Sweetheart's best friend from home. :)

We were "together" for about 1 year, 2 months when he popped the Q. I knew the day after I met him I would marry him, though.

We were engaged for about a year and a half. Long enough for me to graduate college and find a job.

We celebrate 7 years in September. It certainly hasn't been an easy road, but nothing worth doing ever is. :)

How old were you when you met your husband/wife?

I was 25.

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?

We made the relationship "official" (i.e. began courting, seriously) on September 1, 2005 after having known each other for almost a year. We got engaged the following February though I don't have any idea of the date.

How long was the engagement?[/B]

The engagement was really just a formality and a chance to give our families time to adjust to the idea. We were married about seven months after we got engaged. Our civil wedding date was September 1, 2006 because I would never have remembered the date otherwise.

Our church wedding was...lemme check the paper...July 27, 2008.
