My mom and aunt are AGDs and my maternal grandma is a FM. Unfortunately, neither were on my campus when I went through recruitment.
I have three younger sisters. The first one was not interested in Greek Life, the second goes to Amherst College where they do not have NPC groups and the third will be a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania this year. She is not certain whether she'll go through recruitment b/c she'll be playing a sport. The suspense is already killing me. |

On another note, I found out after I graduated from college that my grandmother was a Tri-Delt from somewhere in Indiana. She hadn't told any of her children...one day I was talking about killarney roses, and she said something like "I've always liked our Tri-Delta's pansy" When I asked her who she knew that was a Tri-Delt, she said "you mean besides me?" I was floored! There was no Tri-Delt at my school, but I was so sad that I didn't know...she didn't remember much about it--had pledged during the depression and didn't stay active for long b/c she married my grandfather. |

Huh. I guess that ASLFRose and Ballerina have made me a legacy to AOII and XO!;) |
Can someone shed some light on something for me? I never really did understand bid matching!
My sophomore year, a girl came through rush who was a legacy of our chapter. Her older sister, who had graduated 4 years before, was legendary because of the National awards she had won and was just an all around awesome girl. Her sister, the legacy, was beautiful, sweet and smart and everyone loved her. She made it clear that she was interested in being a DZ. This girl came to pref, which would have put her first on our bid list, but she wasn't given a bid on bid day. She showed up the next night, though, with a few other girls we COB'd. I never really gave that any thought until many years later when I started reading rush threads on GreekChat. Can anyone tell me from a technical standpoint what most likely happened? Thanks :) |

That's great that you got her through COB Now, they tend to practically force the girl to sign the bid card (even if it's a house she doesn't want), which of course obliges her for a year. |

Good luck with rush! |
There are several things that I can think of that could have happened:
(1) The people doing handmatching messed up and somehow she wasn't matched (like her card wasn't in the stack when BM'ing was done); (2) She didn't sign a bid card for some reason or another; (3) Your CPH doesn't have a rule requiring everyone who attends pref to be on your bidlist and your chapter messed up and didn't put her on your list or on your first list (and she suicided). I'll keep thinking on this one. It is odd to see stuff like that happen. Generally, if a legacy doesn't match it is b/c she chose another house or didn't sign. |
IM A DOUBLE LEGACY KAPPA ( BOTH GRANDMOTHERS ) WITH 4 AUNTS ALSO BEING KAPPAS....I WENT DELTA GAMMA !!! I LOVE THE KKG'S HERE JUST WASNT THE BEST FIT !!
|
I'm a Theta, Phi Mu, DG, and Alpha Chi legacy...but only Theta has a chapter at my school.
|
My dad and my uncle were both ATO's, and god willing by the end of next semester, i will be one too.

Huh. I found out a couple months ago I had a great-great-grandmother who was Chi O. I always thought I was a legacy; now I know I'm not. GC = the coolest!
Seriously though.... no one in my family, aside from my dad (AKL) is greek. If my mom had been, I can almost certainly say I would have pledged her group. We're traditionalists like that. So I guess I'm lucky she wasn't, so I didn't, so I'm Phi Mu. Aside... if my little girl turns down Phi Mu to go elsewhere on her campus... I think I'll be secretly crushed. Of course, I'll buy her her first letters and send her cute stuff in the mail and tell her how thrilled I am she found where she fit best, but my husband will know how much I wanted my daughter to be my sister... my dog wears pink bandannas. Is that so wrong? |

My mother, aunt, and maternal grandmother are all Thetas (Kappa Alpha Theta).
My paternal grandmother, paternal aunt, and cousin are all Pi Phis (Pi Beta Phi). You could say I was born into a very Greek-oriented, legacied family. I went ADPi :) even though my mom was a member of my school's Theta chapter hehe. |
I am not a legacy. I am the first and only person in my family who became Greek and it was definately a little hard for my parents to get used to it. But now they know how much I adore Phi Mu, so they love it too since it makes me so happy. Looking back I am somewhat glad I wasn't a legacy when i went through rush b/c I had the HARDEST time with it, I was so mixed up and my mind seemed to change every 2.2 seconds about who I liked and who I didn't. So I guess just me personally it was a little bit easier to not have to worry about hurting my mom's feelings or something if I cut her chapter or they cut me. However I can't wait to have little girls of my own and have them be little Phi Mu legacies. :D
