Hey everyone!! Well, here's how last night went-first of all, it was hot as hell!! And we were outside too!! So, I met the girls and the president gave me a hug and introduced everyone who was there( we were at a baseball game, did I ever say that?). Anyhoo, all the girls there were really nice and very funny, but I felt like I wasn't being social enough, because they had us sitting in 2 rows, and I was in the row below some of the girls, and so from where I was sitting, I only got to talk to about 4 of the girls. I wasn't really sure what to do-like, should I just get up and go sit by them, or talk to the girls who were near me? But it was fun, and they asked all about me, and why I was looking at ABC. The president was actually telling me that she got about 5 phone calls and emails from their nationals saying that they were doing this AI thing wrong, and she shouldn't have talked to me directly, and this was going to need to take months, and there are forms, etc.. I was like, but nationals told me to get in touch with you (totally freaked out that I messed up somewhere), but she said it was ok, and it was nationals mistake in telling me that. She was really nice and when a bunch of the girls and I were talking about the AI process specific to this one group, one of the girls volunteered to be my sponser (yay!!) and another of the girls , who does alot of work with thier nationals, volunteered to write a rec letter for me, when I was ready!!! Woo-Hoo!!

Then they invited me to a couple of events in August, one is a speaker they are having, and the president of their nationals (who lives here in NC) will be there, and they think I should meet her  . The second event is the opening of their sorority house at the college about 5 minutes from my house (but I think I have to work that day!! What to do??).

So, I am really excited about this whole process and getting to know the girls better, b/c they all seem really sweet. And sorry this was so long!! :D

CutiePie2000 07-29-2003 10:40 AM

Hi JennRN,
well, I think it sounds very encouraging. I do subscribe to the philosophy of "not counting the chickens", etc. but I think it does sound very positive! I'll keep my fingers crossed that things keep moving forward in such a definitive manner! Yay!!

navane 07-29-2003 10:50 AM

Wow! It sounds like a success! :)

You must have panicked inside when you heard that the national HQ said you "went about AI wrong"! I know I would have! :)

hehehe...but good for you!

PNAM,

.....Kelly :)

GeekyPenguin 07-29-2003 10:58 AM

Jenn that sounds super! How great for you! :D

And for the house opening - maybe see if you could stop by on your lunch break if you get one?

adduncan 07-29-2003 10:58 AM

"doing AI wrong"

I wouldn't panic at that comment.

AI has been very uncommon until recently, when it hit a growth spurt. Many people do not even know it exists and those who do are often fuzzy on the details.

It's OK--everyone is on a learning curve with this, and no one is going to hold you responsible for what the org is supposed to know or do.

If anything, your AI pursuit is making them clarify what they're looking for and how they go about things. I think that's pretty good too.

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-29-2003 11:06 AM

It sounds great Jenn. And it sounds like you have made a great impression on the local alumnae.

I will say, there were MANY hints in that message for us curious folks. I know for sure now you aren't going Gamma Phi (but I already had an idea on that one).

Now if I only knew who's President lives in NC????????:D

This is better than thinking about the stuff going on in MY life.

WhiteDaisy128 07-29-2003 11:07 AM

Check your PM's Jenn! :D

tinydancer 07-29-2003 12:02 PM

Yea, Jenn!! Sounds like things are on the way for you.

I "think" I may have figured out where you are going, but I'll just keep it to myself for now. When you announce, it, I'll let you know if I was right.;)

bsp-mich24 07-29-2003 12:22 PM

Jenn,

I hope you can make it to both events next month.:) It does sound things are moving along positively. Sending more GOOD vibes your way!:):D

JENN, for a guy, I wish you the best of luck and it sounds so positive!:)

True, AI is somewhat new, it seems to be catching on through out Greekdom! While some may hold to the old ways, it all will come to pass!

You go Lady!!!!!

texas*princess 07-31-2003 01:26 PM

yay!! continued best wishes to you!

JennRN 08-09-2003 11:47 AM

Just a quick update:
earlier on this week, one of the girls that I met at ABC's event a few weeks ago, emailed me to see if I wanted to get together with her! (This is the same girl who volunteered to be my sponser for AI!!) Last night my fiance and I went out with her and her husband for dinner and drinks-we had so much fun! We got to talking about sorority and fraternity handshakes, and her husband was trying to get her to do hers for him, and she was like, no way would I tell you what it is-and then she said to me, but you'll learn it!!

Anyhoo, we had fun, and I'm still getting a few emails that the alum members also get, and can't wait until the next event!

Sounds like things went well!

navane 08-09-2003 05:27 PM

Wow, Jenn, it sounds like this potential sponsor of yours can really see you as a member of her organization! That's a great sign!

PNAM,

It sounds like things are going great! :D

bsp-mich24 08-10-2003 12:58 AM

Its great to hear that things are picking up a little bit. :)

That was nice of the sister who wants to sponsor your to email and invited you out for conversations and drinks! :D

JennRN 08-14-2003 05:38 PM

Am I a bad PNAM??

For real, thats what I feel like. Let me explain: I have gotten 2 invites to 2 events this week from the alum chapter of Group 1-and each time I've had to email the president back and say, sorry I can't come( both events are on a day when I have a 12 hour shift at the hospital 7A-7P)-she was really cool about both, but I feel bad. Then, I got a call from the pres of the alum chapter of my Group 2 inviting me to their next event. I was really excited because I thought it was tomorrow night, but when I called her back, I realized I had gotten mixed up, and it's Sept 17th-so I also had to tell her I can't come (I'll be on my honeymoon out of the country). Of course she was so sweet and understanding about it, and asked me to call her when I get back in town so I can come to their October event. I know both times, each pres was really understanding and I can't exactly change what I have going on both times, but I feel like I'm being a slacker half-ass PNAM!! I feel disappointed in myself, because usually when I set a goal for myself, I do eveything possible to achieve it-and I hate telling people no. I'm scared that both groups will be like-you came to us and wanted this, and now you never come to any events we invite you to. I usually try to fulfill every commitment in my life-and I am commited to becoming an AI-and I hate that I have to keep turning things down!!

I just had to vent, I'm really disapppointed about having to tell everyone no. I don't want them to think I'm not interested/not serious about this/ not committed enough etc!!!

navane 08-14-2003 06:01 PM

Am I a bad PNAM?

No.

I know you must feel bad about having to turn down two invites to two events with Group #1. But, you're a nurse! You *have* to work those hefty shifts! And really, shouldn't she be giving you a little more advance notice?? If you want to try and make it better, how about you suggest days and times to *her*? How does that sound to you?

As for Group #2 and September 17th...that's your *honeymoon*!! I hardly think that anyone will be mad at you for going to your own honeymoon! :)

I don't see how having valid schedule conflicts makes you a "bad" PNAM. How about this...maybe you can e-mail each of the Presidents and thank them again for their invitations. Tell them how bad you feel about having to miss out. Tell them you are still definitely interested and that you want to try your best to find a date everyone can agree on.

Don't worry Jenn, I'm confident that you'll get it worked out yet! :) :) :)

PNAM hugs,

.....Kelly :)

bsp-mich24 08-14-2003 06:18 PM

Jenn, (I also pm'ed you)

No you are not a "bad PMAN". ;) The alum chapter I'm currently pursuing knows that those of us in the workplace/careers etc have obligations. And ditto to what Kelly said, due to your line of work and the 12 hrs shifts give them your schedule for a 2wk period via email and / or follow up w/ a phone call.:)

Keeping my fingers crossed that you can make it to the next events of group 1 and group 2! Its okay to vent and enjoy your Honeymoon next month. :D :)

dakareng 08-15-2003 09:39 PM

You are defintiely NOT a slacker. I'm a nurse practitioner and do 12s/24s and a crazy combination of days/nights. Does that make me a bad member? No (and I serve at the International level), it doesn't, but it does make me more considerate of others who work non-traditional schedules (i.e., not 9-5, M-F). You'll have a lot to offer and I would emphasize that when you communicate with the AC presidents. YOu have talents to offer but don't have the flexibility to attend things at the last minute (and for me, anything with less than 6 weeks notice IS last minute). Keep communicating with both groups-- it'll work out!

GOOD LUCK

and for those interested-- it isn't Pi Phi... our president lives in Texas.

Jill1228 08-23-2003 02:42 PM

Ok any new news?

WhiteDaisy128 09-03-2003 12:02 PM

Jenn, we haven't had our fix in a while...any news?

Jill1228 09-16-2003 02:59 AM

Any news or are youhttp://www.superbabies.homestead.com/files/mischief.gif

JennRN 11-07-2003 07:25 PM

Hey guys-
I haven't posted in a while because I have been so busy with the wedding, the honeymoon, work, and settling back into real life!!
Anyhoo, I had gotten the fall newsletter for Group 1's events, and have been unable to attend any of them!! Seriously, September's event was the day I got back into the country( obviously couldn't make that one :D ), October's event I was out of town ( incidentally in the wedding of a member of Group 1's sorority-not from the alum chapter, but an old friend), and for the November event, I could go, but I'm working that night at the hospital so I wouldn't get to sleep beforehand( which come 3 am would not be a good thing)! But I have still been in touch with the president and the one girl who volunteered to be my sponser
( her name is Leigh). Leigh and Iwent for drinks one night- the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't-

and oops, have to run, will finish later!!

JennRN 11-07-2003 08:09 PM

Ok, sorry about that!! I had to take a patient for a quick procedure!!

Anyhoo, the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't make it. But my husband is going out of town for the next 2 weeks :( , so I've invited both Leigh and the AC pres to my house for some margaritas and Sex and the City! And, I cleared my schedule for the December event, which is making Xmas ornaments, so I can go! Finally!

I'm sort of frustrated that things keep coming up that keep me from meeting more of the members and moving the process along-I feel like I'm at a standstill, but at the same time, I know that this process can take years!!

A funny story here-at the wedding I was in a couple of weeks ago, the bride is a member of Group 1 sorority. At her rehearsal dinner, she had all the bridesmaids come up and do a cake pull-I don't know if you know what that is, but basically there's a cake with charms in it, and ribbons on the charms, and you pick a ribbon and pull! Well, we did it , and the charm I pulled was Group 1's symbol!! I was like, OMG, it's a sign!! :D :p (Ok, I'm being cheesy.)

So thats where things are at right now. Sorry there's not more exciting news for you guys!!

aopirose 11-08-2003 03:27 PM

Cake pulls are a fun tradition. I did that for the girls that I couldn't ask to be my bridesmaids. That way more people could share in the fun. I made sure to get the sterling silver ones so that they could be worn afterwards.

Anyway, with that reference, I think that I know who your group is. Good luck and I can't wait to find out if my guess is correct!

I am glad to hear you are still seeking AI! It sounds like you are on the right track to meeting the women of the group. Best of luck!!

DeltaBetaBaby 11-09-2003 09:29 PM

WHY MUST WE DO THIS???

Jenn obviously doesn't want to name the group yet. Let it go. If you think you know the group, keep it to yourself. I don't understand why, in every AI or rush thread, someone feels the need to play detective.

Jenn will tell us when she is ready.

(FWIW, you can get cake-pull charms for every group. It is no shock that the bride had her org's symbol. Therefore, I really think that you can't narrow it down from this "clue.")

AGDee 11-10-2003 12:27 AM

I just spent two hours surfing the net for charms for the charm bracelet I'm getting my daughter for Christmas and there are charms with EVERYTHING. In fact, I wanted a squirrel charm for me but two sites were sold out of them. Must be a lot of AGDs buying squirrel charms!

aopirose 11-10-2003 12:57 PM

If JennRN has a problem with my post, she can PM me and I will remove it. Otherwise, I STILL think that I know where she may go. Mmwahahaha :D

pirepresent 11-10-2003 01:35 PM

Just to add... Jenn (and many other PNAMs) might not be so gung-ho about saying names of groups because, as has been discussed before, it's not exactly PC to pursue two groups for AI. So it might not have anything to do with being "ready" or not, and more like "unable at this time"

I dont see anything wrong with people making guesses... it's all in good fun...
