Role playing, huh?
Does it involve you in a cheerleader's costume and him in a football player's uniform? LOL ;)

GMUBunny 07-08-2003 02:28 PM

Gimme Johnny Depp any day. Soooo hot, want to touch the hiney *sigh*. I thought he looked good as a Brit in "From Hell" but he's even hotter as a pirate :D

sarahgrace 07-08-2003 05:02 PM

ladyj39 , bless you for posting that first picture of Orlando. Although my friends adore him, normally I could take him or leave him. But in that picture? I'm feeling the love.

Sarah

ladyj39 07-08-2003 08:10 PM

You're very welcome, sarahgrace! Welcome to the Orlando Love Brigade! :D

Oh, and CutiePie- More like a schoolgirl ;)

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-08-2003 11:12 PM

Ok I hate to admit this but I find Johnny Depp soooooo attractive with all that eye makeup on. Without it, he really doesn't do much for me. Wow, ok I can't believed I just admit to that and I'll understand if no one wants to talk to me ever again. :p

I want to see this movie so badly!!! Johnny and Orlando and PIRATE costumes....ahh, life can't get much better. I am so excited! :)

I definitely know what you mean about Johnny Depp! I was talking to a friend about this movie, and I said, "Johnny Depp is soooo hot in these commercials, more guys should wear eyeliner..." And then I was like... OK what am I saying? haha I have never been a Johnny Depp fan but he is looking so cute and pirate-y. Shiver me timbers... :D

I've got tickets to the showing tonight so I'm totally psyched!! Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are georgous, and the special effects i've heard were amazing. Besides that I'm a pretty big action freak. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it was.

Oooohhhh! I'm glad you guys liked it, I still can't wait to see it! :)

Sverige 07-10-2003 09:27 AM

Too bad it doesn't come out here for another month. Ack!

dixie wrecked 07-10-2003 10:31 AM

The movie was more of a comedy/action then scary/action, but I really enjoyed that aspect of it. Johny Depp was amazing (I’m talking award winning acting. Knightly was good...i’m sure she'll be around for a while, and Bloom was just loveable!! My theatre wasn't packed, but a good number of people were there, despite the rain.

I have plans to see it again over the weekends, and also to purchase the DVD as soon as its out.

Hope you enjoy...as much as I did ;)

LuaBlanca 07-10-2003 01:01 PM

The theater was absolutely PACKED when I went, but that was also the 7:50 show which is usually one of the more full times.

dixie wrecked is right w/ the comedy/action part of it. I wasn't expecting the comedy aspect at all! It was a nice surprise...especially the "flamboyancy" of Johnny Depp's character. lol :) He really did an AMAZING job acting the part, and Capt. Jack Sparrow definately had the funnier lines in the movie. Some of the wit was so cleverly done, I was very impressed- even by Disney standards!

Did anyone else catch the subtle references to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride from Walt Disney World/Land? (esp. when the guys in jail were trying to lure the dog w/ the keys hehehe)

Schmeer 07-10-2003 03:14 PM

I'm Going tonight!!! I can't wait. Will report back tomrrow!!!

Schmeer 07-10-2003 03:15 PM

oopps..also wanted to say that I am picking up the Video game this weekend too because its now out. Anyone get it yet?

dixie wrecked 07-10-2003 03:44 PM

AOII_LB93 07-10-2003 05:02 PM

Those are the absolute sexiest pics of MrBloom that I have ever seen....DAMN!

Anyone see the movie yet? I want to go, just say if it's good or bad. don't give up the spoilers yet.

sugar and spice 07-13-2003 05:18 AM

I saw it this afternoon with my roomie. We both agree that Johnny Depp is the coolest pirate ever. Although for some strange reason, he reminded both of us of Rayanne from "My So-Called Life." :p

There were definitely several scenes re-enacted that mimicked the Disney Pirates of the Carribean ride (the final battle scene with bombs exploding in the water, the scene with the prisoners trying to get the keys from the dog, the scenes in that one town with all the women and liquor). This, combined with the preview for the Disney Haunted Mansion movie, which quite obviously steals scenes from the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, makes me wonder if Disney is planning on making backstory in the form of movies for many of their theme park rides that lack them.

CarolinaCutie 07-13-2003 10:09 AM

I loved this movie! Johnny Depp... he definitely lived up to my expectations in both his hotness and his wonderful acting. The only bad thing was that both my friend and I kept saying to each other, "Wow he's so sexy" instead of paying attention to the movie!

LeslieAGD 07-13-2003 11:22 AM

I am going to see the movie this afternoon...I can't wait! :)

carnation 07-13-2003 12:12 PM

We want to take the kids but I heard it's PG13. :( Is that true? Would you take your elementary-aged kid? And why would Disney base a movie on a ride and then make it PG13?

LeslieAGD 07-13-2003 01:39 PM

Carnation, yes, it is pg13. It's the first Disney movie to have this rating. I'll let you know how kid appropriate it is when I come bcak from seeing it. ;)

Sistermadly 07-13-2003 01:45 PM

Saw it yesterday, and I know all the youngsters will say that Orlando Bloom is a hottie, but I could NOT take my eyes off Johnny Depp! Fantastic film, even if the sword fight scenes did go on a bit long.

LeslieAGD 07-13-2003 06:23 PM

This movie was PHENOMENAL!!! Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffery Rush, and Keira Knightly all gave absolutely amazing performances! There was just the right spice of comedy from Crazy Captain Jack! :D

To be honest, I don't think this movie could have been made - in the true spirit of the film - as anything less that a PG13 rating. The swordfights, explosions, and sci-fi special effects were absolutely essential to the plot. The violence wasn't gory or overdone. Should children see it? I supose that depends on the parents and the maturity level of the child. I don't think it's any worse that the video games kids today play...but IMO, I probably wouldn't take kids under 10.

I'm a person who likes movies more that get worse professional reviews...

So should I see this movie?

YES! The professional reviews have been CRAPPY but I really liked it. Granted, it's not like it's so amazing you forget you're watching a movie; it's not life changing...it's just a good, fun, exciting movie.

and yes, Johnny Dep was reminiscient of Rayanne from My So Called Life! (But I think the smudgy eye-liner that made HER look scary was making HIM look preeeetty hott so..... ;) )

Keep in mind I don't care how hot the guys are.

Now if there is a hot girl, i'm there!

GiantsChic 07-13-2003 10:38 PM

loved this movie! I'm happy that it did make the references to the ride, too... and of course, the oh so beautiful leading men

I think Keira Knightley is so positively gorgeous that it's downright unfair. Does that help you at all?

Actually, most of the reviews that I've seen have been quite good.

Anyway, most fun I've had the movies in a long-time. MUCH better than Matrix Re-Loaded. (And, with all respect to Sistermadly, is it possible for sword-fights to go on too long? ;) )

Keira Knightly is gorgeous, and Johnny Depp was wonderful -- managing to be incredibly menacing and incredibly funny at the same time. The whole thing had the feel of some old Errol Flynn movies, with some Three Musketeers thrown in for good measure. (Will Turner was pretty much an anglicized D'Artagnon.) Really, really fun!

AOII_LB93 07-15-2003 02:00 AM

Can I just say that I absolutely LOVED this movie?!?!?!!!! Orlando looked hot, as did Johnny...and Kira...she's a nice looking woman as well. Overall, way better than I thought it was going to be and very entertaining...that is what I paid for! YES!

greeklawgirl 07-15-2003 11:47 AM

I liked this movie a lot, too! Orlando and Johnny were great! :)

greeklawboy pointed out something very interesting about Johnny Depp during the movie. I asked why he was wearing the smudgy eyeliner and acting so "flamboyant," and he said that the powers-that-be based Captain Jack Sparrow's character on Keith Richards (of the Rolling Stones)!

Suddenly it all fell into place. IMO, Johnny has a spot on the next Stones tour if Keith ever suffers an untimely demise. ;)

IHeartAXO 07-15-2003 03:57 PM

I saw Johnny on Leno, I believe, and he explained the make-up, beads and "flamboyant" behavior. He said that through research, he found that pirates were like the rock and roll stars of their time. So, he decided that there was noone better than Keith Richards who embraced the "rock and roll" look and persona. I thought their was something oddly sexy about his wild hair and smudgy eye makeup. :)

I LOVED the movie! It was damn good! And just what I needed after a string of mediocre movies that I had high hopes for. It was great! And Johnny Depp made the whole movie. He was absolutely fabulous. And FUNNY! I was so impressed by him. :)

Keira Knightly reminded me so much of Natalie Portman. My mom thought she was a mix between Natalie Portman and a young Brooke Shields.

sugar and spice 07-15-2003 04:37 PM

Keira Knightley is gorgeous . . . am I the only one who failed to place her as the girl from Bend It Like Beckham? I realize that she looks nothing like she did in that movie, but even so, I feel like I should have made the connection.

Johnny Depp was better though. The whole Elizabeth/Will plot bored me; I was praying throughout the movie that she would "hook up with the pirate!"
