The Sinfonian.
It began in 1901 as The Sinfonian Yearbook. Starting in 1909, the Yearbook was supplemented by a three-times-per-year newsletter called The Mystic Cat. ;) In 1915, The Mystic Cat became the only publication, and in 1917 the name was changed to the more "dignified" The Sinfonian. We also have a newsletter for chapters and collegiate members called The Red & Black. |
Ours is simply called "Perspectives".

Let's re-phrase that: The oldest greek magazine, which just so has it, that it has been published continuously since 1872.

The Diamond
Psi Upsilon set the standard to be followed by everyone down the road by publishing the first ever fraternity mag in 1850 ;) |
Here is an explanation that will clear up the Beta / Psi U. discrepancy:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - According to "The Fraternity Voice," published by the College Fraternity Editors Association (1998): "The earliest printed periodical of Psi Upsilon was The College Tablet, published by Delta Chapter, New York University, edited by F.N. Zabriskie and E.C. Darlington and dated Jan. 15, 1850. There were six issues of eight pages, 6"x9". The proposal for an official periodical was made at the 1951 Convention with a budget of $800 for 1,000 copies. However, official consideration did not come until the 1852 convention, which rejected the plan as 'unpractical.' Fourteen years later, the Convention of 1865 considered the issue again, but it was not until 1878 that the first issue of The Diamond was published." |
Thanks for clearing that up :) I'd been somewhat wondering about that myself. Nice to finally have the record straight in my head, as it were.

Cream beat me to the Triad, but as someone who works on it, and who went to CFEA, I have to say that I got to meet many of the people who create these fabulous magazines, and so much goes into them!! To Dragma won some awards as did Sigma Chi and SAE and Tri Delta. I forget the others, but most of the magazines were just amazing!

Shadokat- Were you @ the CFEA conference in Evanston this past fall? That's the last one I was at- being I'm a volunteer, I don't always have enough vacation to go to the spring confernces. I am always completely impressed with 2 things about CFEA: the quality of the magazines & other publications and the greek unity the people there display. </hijack> :D |
