I have an aunt and 5 cousins who are AKA, and my aunt as well as a cousin married Ques. I'm only Kappa in the family. My cousin-in-law teases me all the time about how I made the wrong decision. It's all in good fun. He's a minister but he still reps that Omega Psi Phi! My mother questioned me though when she knew I was thinking about pledging. She was like why are doing this. She thought I was wasting my money. She eventually came around.

Ironically, my niece who is three years older than my daughter became a Sigma before I became a Zeta. She was the first to "Go Greek" in our family. I became a Zeta a year later, and my daughter followed in Momma Dove's footsteps, crossing in January '06.

My Mom teases us saying "my babies look like Queens in their "Royal Blue."

All of the greeks in my family are Alphas and Omegas. I started the legacy and hope to continue the legacy. But if my daughter chooses to go elsewhere I won't be mad. But she better be the best damn Zeta, SGRho, or Delta that she could be!

That's so sweet. I have a variety of other greeks in my family. It's interesting as time goes on and people pledge and marry greek people. I'm all about family graduating from college, with honors, getting jobs/into grad schools of choice, before anything else.

My heritage is African and my parents kinda thought the same, but I was like come on now, Cousin A, B, C, D & E are greek so it's cool. I'm an aspirant and when I talk to my male cousins they are supportive of whatever choice I make

a loner...

The women who are greek in my family are all AKAs who came through the same chapter...I'm the only Delta except for a distant cousin in ATL who we never see...at family gatherings my cousins and I rib each other but its all in fun...just the other day at my mom's house a cousin who I don't get to see very often who is an AKA brought her 2 year old daughter with her to my mom's cookout. This was only the 2nd time I had ever laid eyes on this child and she was DRAWN to me....every time her mother walked within earshot I would I would continue telling my young cousin the "awesome story of 22 illustrious women..." My cousin (the mother) was really getting bent out of shape...it was TOO funny!!! Her daughter followed me all day.....I told her mom she just recognized the glow from within.....;) My mom stepped in and begin to tease me about my own 7 yr old daughter's obession with the color pink( her room decor, her walls in her room..etc)...I just say its a little girl thing, she'll out grow it... My favorite uncle(a Kappa) only child is a senior in high school....I tease her about picking Delta, but I really just want her to follow her heart... that's true even with my own daughter...even though it wouldn't be honest if I said that I wouldn't be at least a little disappointed if she didn't pick Delta..ok devastated but I would be there cheering her own louder then anyone else(just crying on the inside):(

There are several AKAs in my family, a couple of Deltas, an Alpha, and a slew of Kappas.

Everyone was sooooooooooo happy when I crossed. It wasn't a big surprise.
