I was so going to say that if someone else didn't! I LOVE THAT SONG... lately, it's been contagious with my family and friends, but I've loved it since I first heard it... definitely played at my wedding if I ever get married...

Along with Frank Sinatra "The way you look tonight," "butterfly kisses" (for me and daddy), Sara Evans version of "I could not ask for more," and DEFINITELY "Good morning Beautiful" by Steve Holy... yes, it will be a very country wedding... sorry to whatever country-hating man I marry
;)

cntryZTA5 05-13-2003 09:30 PM

Our song was Sara Evans version of "I could not ask for more."

Lying here with you,
Listening to the rain,
Smiling just to see, The smile upon your face,
These are the moments, I thank God that I'm alive,
These are the moments, I'll remember all my life,
I found all I've waited for,
And I could not ask for more.
Looking in your eyes,
Seeing all I need,
Everything you are, Is everything to me,
These are the moments, I know heaven must exist,
These are the moments, I know all I need is this,
I have all I've waited for,
And I could not ask for more.

Chorus:
I could not ask for more than this time together,
I could not ask for more than this time with you,
Every prayer has been answered,
Every dream I have's come true,
And right here in this moment, Is right where I meant to be,
Here with you, Here with me. . .

These are the moments, I thank God that I'm alive,
These are the moments, I'll remember all my life,
I've got all I've waited for,
And I could not ask for more. . .

Chorus:
I could not ask for more than this time together,
I could not ask for more than this time with you,
Every prayer has been answered,
Every dream I have's come true,
And right here in this moment, Is right where I meant to be,
Here with you, Here with me. . .

I could not ask for more than the love you gave me,
'Coz it's all I've waited for . . .
And I could not ask for more,
I could not ask for more.

We were thinking about Lonestar's Amazed, but it was too overplayed at the time...I think it would be a lot better now.
We knew that whatever song we picked it would be country.

Beddingfield I believe....

Our first dance song was Sara Evans' "I Could Not Ask for More". Our second song was Keith Whitley's "When You Say Nothing at All". And I walked down the aisle to "A Love as True as Mine" by George Strait.

BTW, I noticed that a lot of you said your first dance was to "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. That's one I don't understand. I see it as a sad song, about the loss of a loved one. When the DJ played it at my wedding, I ran out of the building crying, saying "This is not a wedding song". (Well, it didn't help playing that song at my wedding, when my Big died in July, and my wedding was in April the next year, and I had really been looking forward to seeing her there.) Just my opinion.

Good to see so much love for "In My Life" by the Beatles! I'm a huge Beatles fan, and that's in my top five.

I hadn't considered "At Last" but boy, is that appropriate!!!! :)

The song I'm listening to right now is just perfect for a wedding. The name of the song is "Crazy Over You" by 112. It was never relaesed to radio, but, it is a beautiful song off of their second CD, Room 112. Just to give you a feel for the song, here are the words...

I fell in love with you,
T'was like a dream come true
And my love for you will never end oh no
Was such a special night
You lay right by my side
And I told you things I never ever told

And now that I have you babe
I promise I'll never leave
Cuz you are the only one that makes my love complete...

[Chorus:]
And I'm,
Crazy over you,
I dont know what to do,
I'm Crazy over you...

A love that never ends
You're more than just a friend
And my heart and soul I'll always give to you,
The only in my life
Someday you'll be my wife,
And I'll be with you until the end of time...

And now that I have you babe
I promise I'll never leave
Cuz you are the only one that makes my love complete...

[Chorus]

It doesnt matter what you say or do
Because I love you (And I know you love me too)
Love me, kiss me, and hold me in your arms
Lets me know you're crazy over me
And I'm Crazy over you
Cuz you are the only one,
To make my life complete...

[Chorus until end]

I'll be back with others later on today...

bucutie02 05-14-2003 10:12 AM

How about that song by Shania Twain "You're the one" I think its called?

Can someone help me out on that?

I like "Unforgettable" for a father-daughter/mother-son song. "It Had to be you" is also another good first dance song--I prefer Tony Bennett, but the Harry Connick Jr. version is equally good. :D

Betarulz! 05-14-2003 02:39 PM

Songs that seem like good songs but really aren't...

Haven't seen that many of the "misunderstood" songs except for one....

"Crash into Me" by DMB...it's a song about a peeping tom - so unless that is how you met (eww) probably not a good choice. If you really listen to the lyrics you'll realize that you don't want grandma hearing that (sample lyric: Oh, I watch you there
Through the window
And I stare at you
You wear nothing, but you
Wear it so well
AND hike up your skirt a little more, show your world to me

Also, no one has mentioned this but The Police's "Every Breath You take" is another rather dark song that is often used...but the song has really a rather scary possesive/stalker vibe to it.

Just make sure whatever song you pick that the lyrics really say what you want. :)

MuAZD 05-14-2003 02:55 PM

I want mine to be "Someone Like You" by Van Morrison, although I won't be getting married for a very very long time.

kstar 05-14-2003 06:19 PM

With my future husband - It's a duet between Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly in the musical Xanadu. It has that old big band style, and easy to dance to.

"No other face could take you off my mind
You're so refined - you're much too kind
I have to warn you I'm never gonna set you free
'Cause I was born to love you for eternity
Whenever you're away from me, wherever you go
You're never far away from me, I want you to know
I only have to close my eyes dear, and suddenly I'm where you are
You better never stray, 'cause I'll never be far away
On every breeze I seem to hear your name
My heart's aflame - I feel the same
I'd fall apart dear, if you let the feelin' end
Don't break a heart dear nobody else could mend
Whenever you're away from me, wherever you go
You're never far away from me, I want you to know
I only have to close my eyes dear, and suddenly I'm where you are
You better never stray, 'cause I'll never be far away
(Instrumental break)
Whenever you're away from me, wherever you go
You're never far away from me, I want you to know
I only have to close my eyes dear, and suddenly I'm where you are
You better never stray, 'cause I'll never be far away
You better never stray, 'cos I'll never be far away"

And then, with my Daddy, I want his favorite song (by the Platters):

"Oh yes I'm the great pretender
Pretending I'm doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I'm lonely but no one can tell
Oh yes I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I play the game but to my real shame
You've left me to dream all alone
Too real is this feeling of make believe
Too real when I feel what my heart
can't conceal
Ooh Ooh yes I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not (you see)
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're still around
Yeah ooh hoo
Too real is this feeling of make believe
Too real when I feel what my heart
can't conceal
Oh yes I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're still around"

GeekyPenguin 05-14-2003 06:56 PM

My roomie and her fiancee are dancing to "Fishin' in the Dark" because one of their first dates was fishing! :)

I just told GPBoy that if we get married we're doing the Chicken Dance for the mother/son father/daughter dance because his mom hate smiling, but you HAVE to smile for the chicken dance!

ladyj39 05-14-2003 07:35 PM

I LOVE this song, and hopefully one day it will be my first dance:

Edwin McCain - I Don't Know How I Got By

How did I wake up each day
Before that moment I saw your face
Where was I before your touch
Nowhere is where I was without you
Without you in it
My life was just a lie
Before you I don't how I got by

Before I met you
Before I held you in the night
I don't know how I survived
Before I found you
Before you made everything right
I was half alive
I wasn't really living
Till you came into my life
I got through baby
But I don't know how I got by

And how did I get through those nights
Before that moment I held you tight
And where was I before your kiss
How did I exist without you
Life had no meaning
No reason and no rhyme
And before you I don't know how I got by

Before I met you
Before I held you in the night
I don't know how I survived
Before I found you
Before you made everything right
I was half alive
I wasn't really living
Till you came into my life
I got through baby
But I don't know I got by

I think of when I wake each day
Of waking next to you
I don't know what I was living for
Before you, before you

Before I met you
Before I held you in the night
I don't know how I survived
Before I found you
Before you made everything right
I was half alive
I wasn't really living
Till you came into my life
I got through baby
But I don't know I got by
Before I met you
I don't know how I got by

It's from the movie "Family Man"

"50 ways to leave your lover" Was thata choice?

LOL

chitownxo 05-14-2003 10:48 PM

Mr. Chitownxo and I have discussed this topic. If we don't decide to elope to Las Vegas, our first song is going to be "True Companion" by Marc Cohen. Well, he'd probably be happy with
"Baby Got Back", but anyhoo....

Baby I've been searching like everybody else
Can't say nothing different about myself
Sometimes I'm an angel
And sometimes I'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool
Yes, I'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of God girl
Could keep you safe from me
My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away
I've got my heart set on our wedding day
I've got this vision of a girl in white
Made my decision that it's you allright
And when I take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers
And I'll lift up your veil
Then I'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you
And when I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion

I love that song!

see and Mr. Jaggerboy and I were thinking about Prince's "P*ssy Control" but I don't know how grandma would like it.

So we'd probably go classic. Maybe something from Sinatra. Young at Heart?

sororitygirl2 05-17-2003 12:29 AM

The two that people have mentioned on here that I have considered in the past:

"At Last" by Etta James

The "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" medley

I think it is important to have something that means something to the couple but I am also a strong believer in a very classy, traditional wedding ceremony and reception so I really like the jazz and oldie choices... no hip hop at my wedding, no DJ either... I want a big band or an orchestra... or both!

ansturge 05-17-2003 01:15 PM

hmm what about that tim mcgraw song my best friend -- doesnt seem like its a slow song, but i hope my hubbie is my best friend

sororitygirl2 05-17-2003 01:33 PM

I had a friend dance to that "My Best Friend" song at her wedding. It was cute because it was totally them.

Winterbloom 05-17-2003 10:25 PM

I want "Night and Day" for my wedding by Mr. Sinatra. My young man is a Jersey boy, and much of our courting has taken place in New Jersey and New York, so Ol' Blue Eyes will definitely feature in my wedding. I'm such a lover of big band and swing, and so that will probably be the theme of the wedding, if we even have a reception. At this point, we've seriously discussed just having a tiny church wedding, then having a big ol' byob barbeque in the backyard! We're not too stuffy of folks down here, in case you haven't noticed!

My Grandbig just got married a few weeks ago, and one of their dance songs that was really sweet was "Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks. I really love that song, too.

I think everyone's talking weddings because the bride's month itself--June--is coming up, and everyone seems to want to get married in the spring/early summer.

lifesaver 05-18-2003 03:41 AM

Since I am a guy, I would never think about this, but, if I was FORCED TO, Id choose, At Last. Etta's the shit

Munchkin03 05-18-2003 11:29 AM

Another song that I think would be a great wedding song, especially for you GC country fans..."Forever and ever Amen" by Randy Travis. Doesn't the video take place at a wedding?

SKRae 05-18-2003 05:56 PM

My boyfriend had asked me about this after we got back together. During our weeks apart he realized that I am the one for him (not being concieted, he told me this and is talking about spending the rest of our lives together). Our pick is Your Body by John Mayer. This is our song, whenever we hear it, he sings it to me and is on every CD he makes me. My next pick would be Something by the Beatles and then Eta James' At Last. The last CD he made me had If You're not the One on it. He said that it is how he feels about me. Ahhhhh to be in love!!

PM_Mama00 05-18-2003 10:00 PM

I think I'm destined to be alone forever, but if I ever get married it will be....

if I marry a non-Italian-- From This Moment

if I marry an Italian-- Ti Amo .... u know all you true Italians out there know this song! Even if you're not Italian download it and listen to it... it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

No plans to get married anywhere in the foreseeable future. (Heck, no guy even, haha.) But I am obsessed with the Phantom of the Opera, and I decided that my wedding song is going to be "All I Ask of You" from there.

I love that song!

Mr. SageofAges gave me a framed copy of the lyrics to this song on our first anniversary :)

We met at Indiana University :)...perpetual educ-philes ;)...He was abd on his doctorate and I was still plugging along at getting finished ;)

So we chose...

"Don't know much" by Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Nevile

Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going
I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know

Look at these eyes
They've never see what matter
Look at these dreams
So big and so better
I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know

So many questions still left unanswered
So much I've never broken through

And when I feel you near me
Sometimes I see so clearly
The only truth I've ever known
Is me and you

Look at this man
So blessed with inspiration.
Look at this soul.
Still searching for salvation

I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know
I don't know much
But I know I love you

And that may be all I need to know
I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know.

Our first dance was I Want All of You by the Verve Pipe. It has a special meaning to us.

Father/daughter; mother/son was Unforgettable.

Parents was For You by John Denver.

Wedding Party was Only the Good Die Young. I wanted something faster that everyone could dance to because I hate dancing with someone you just met the day before, as is usually the case with wedding party dances.

Last dance was Piano Man.

ADqtPiMel 05-16-2005 01:31 PM

The acoustic version of "Looking Back on Today" by The Ataris.

30th of April, seems like yesterday.
We bought a house above the ocean
where our kids could laugh and play.

I called you from Paris
to tell you that I wrote our names on the observation deck
of the Eiffel Tower.

Remember those nights,
playing "Summer wind" on the juke box of the bar we used to go.
We made out in the bathroom and you walked me to my house,
I tried to convince you not to go home.

If only i had more time, I'd take you where you wanted to go.
Italy isn't the same without you here.
If only I had one wish, I'd want a million tillion lifetimes
that I could spend with you...
Fall in love with you again and again.

1st of November, 1998.
I was thinking of what to say when I could call.
Denice come over to my house, cuz you're the one for me.
We'll drink cheap wine and watch more shooting stars.

Remember our first apartment?
Our couch was never big enough for two.
Still, we'd fall asleep in eachother's arms and wake up on the
floor.
Now looking back it was made for me and you.

If only I had more time, I'd take you where you wanted to go.
Japan is really nice this time of year.
If only I had one wish, I'd want a million trillion lifetimes
that I could spend with you...
Fall in love with you again and again.

Xylochick216 05-16-2005 01:34 PM

We were sappy/cheesy and went with "You're the Inspiration" by Chicago. Such a geeky song, but I'm a sucker for it :)

I danced to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong with my dad :)

RedRoseSAI 05-16-2005 03:12 PM

My One and Only Love. Lots of people have sung this song, but the version that hooked me was by Sting on the Leaving Las Vegas soundtrack. Our band did a nice job with it.

My fiance's and my song is "So Far Away" by Staind, but we haven't decided if that will be the song we first dance to at our wedding.

I've always wanted to use Kenny Lattimore's "For You"...

For you I give a lifetime of stability,
Anything you want of me
Nothing is impossible
For you there are no words or ways to show my love
Or all the thoughts I'm thinking of
'Cause this life is no good alone
Since we've become one I've made a change
Everything I do now makes sense, all roads end,
All I do is for you

For you I share the cup of love that overflows
And anyone who knows us knows
That I would change all faults I have
For you there is no low or high or in between
Of my heart that you haven't seen
'Cause I share all I have and am,
Nothing I've said's hard to understand
And all I feel I feel deeper still
And always will
All this love is for you

Every note that I play, every word I might say
Every melody I feel
Are only for you and your appeal
Every page that I write, everyday of my life
Would not be filled without the things
That my love for you now brings

For you I'd make a promise of fidelity,
Now and for eternity
No one could replace this vow
For you I'd take your hand and heart and everything
And add to them a wedding ring
'Cause this life is no good alone,
Since we've become one you're all I know
And if this feeling should leave I'd die
And here's why
All I am is for you

Everything I do know makes sense
All roads end and all I do....
Is for you
oh yeah for you

LightBulb 05-16-2005 06:25 PM

I prefer the Fred Astaire version of "The Way You Look Tonight".

What about "What a Wonderful World" (Louis Armstrong), "When I Fall in Love" (Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole), or "Fools Rush In" (Elvis Presley)?

"I'll Catch You"- The Get Up Kids

can you sleep as the sound hits your ears one at a time?
an unspokenbalance here,
unabridged for so many years
that i should stare at receivers to receive her isn't fair
don't worry i'll catch you
don't ever worry
your arms in mine, anytime
i wouldn't trade anything
you're still my everything
to my surprise, before my eyes, you arrive
don't worry I'll catch you
don't ever worry
i'm still breaking old habits, habits when you pulled the wool over me
i can see everything, everything remembering "jinx removing"
don't worry i'll catch you [x2]
don't ever worry
no need for reminding... you're still all that matters to me

AOII_LB93 05-16-2005 08:07 PM

Well because of the situation of our wedding, we may have to postpone our first dance since I don't know if we'll be able to where we are thinking of having the reception (super nice restaurant, in Ireland.) but if it was up to me, "La Vie en Rose" by Louis Armstrong...I love the Edith Piaf version, but the LA version is great too.

First wedding it was "Always" by Atlantic Starr .. "Come with me my sweet, let's go make a family, and they will bring us joy, for alwayyyyyyyys". Also a great song.
