So is it S.A. or Austin? If Austin is the place we could meet at Iron Cactus downtown on the roof top (nice views of the city) have some margaritas and then go from there.

SATX*APhi 05-23-2003 02:39 PM

Place really hasn't been decided because nobody really said "Let's have it here." I'll say let's do it in Austin. It's more of a centralized location. Iron Cactus sounds great!

Keep it in San Antone... though I wouldn't mind Austin. Gonna be lazy enuff to check out the fares on Southwest -- shouldn't be too expensive.

Oh, right. You can only do San Antone, huh? If anybody CAN ONLY meet in Austin, please come forward and say so. :) Dude, this is so not stable, going back and forth. WE need to just decide. Since most everyone seems indifferent about it, other than AlphaSigOU who can only get together in SA, how about we just have it in SA then? Fo sho this time. No more changing. This can't fall thorugh like last year. We aer the TEXAS GC'ers. They're all jealous of us. C'mon now! San Antone, get ready for us GC'ers! :D Everyone with me? No objections???

edited to add: I kinda feel like this was a Tom Earp post. Hmmmm.

mmcat 05-24-2003 06:55 AM

hi from el paso

i'm game for both...but remember you need about two weeks lead time to get southwest tickets -- at least cheap ones.
:D

:D

Flying from DAL with at least two weeks' notice (at least) is about $49 each way (less taxes and fees) Dunno 'bout ELP.

aggieAXO 05-24-2003 10:16 AM

I just flew to El Paso last week on fun fare and it was about 100$ both ways with tax, etc...

ok so lets meet at a restaurant and then go from there-any favorites?

I think we need to go to Howl at the Moon for a couple of hrs.

SATX*APhi 05-24-2003 04:59 PM

Here are some restaurants I would suggest:
  • Mi Tierra (About 1/2 mile from the river; the best Mexican food!)
  • Casa Rio (on the river; Good Mexican food)
  • Tomatillo's (3 miles from downtown; Really good Mexican food with big plates, really good margaritas)
  • Cadillac Bar (downtown; Live Music, great drinks and food, fun atmosphere)
  • Paesanos (Riverwalk; Really good Italian food, but a bit pricey)
I'm pretty sure everyone knows of the following restaurants. All are located on the river, or downtown.
  • Dick's Last Resort
  • Texas Land & Cattle
  • Hardrock Cafe
  • Planet Hollywood
  • Fuddruckers

alphachiohmy 05-24-2003 11:24 PM

Chicagoan wanting to crash your thread after all the talk on SA... I will be in SA after Labor Day in Sept. if you guys will get together then. I am meeting an old "best friend" and were going to Padre Labor Day weekend but will be in SA for the rest of that week/weekend !

SATX*APhi 05-24-2003 11:29 PM

alphachiohmy, I will be living in SA at the time of your visit, and I am pretty sure lifesaver will be there, and perhaps Kitso. I'd love to meet up with you! Just let me/us know a few weeks before hand so that we can see what we can do. :)

alphachiohmy 05-25-2003 10:57 PM

will do!

Planet Hollywood has been closed. Its ok tho. Theres only so much Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwatrzangger I can handle.

Also for bars d/t, theres Swig, Zink, The Mark, etc.

I can always do Howl....

As for restuarunts - Rudys is always a good choice. I agreww with DeltaSig - Floore's Is great.

wreckingcrew 05-26-2003 02:55 AM

Do y'all really want to meet downtown? that might be a huge hassle. It may be easier to meet somewhere on the North side, like Rudy's (a personal fave) :D or maybe Crabby Jacks on 281.

That way we can all meet up and have a brew, then carpool down to the River if that's what y'all want to do. Also, lifesaver, i'd be down with going to any places you know of that AREN'T on the riverwalk. I mean, i'm sure most of us have been to the river and it might be cooler to check out some of the other hot spots SA has to offer.

So, San Antonio is Kitso's vote, preferring to meet somewhere other than the River and then make our way down there later.

Kitso
KS 361 days it has been since i said 'wait till next year' after the spurs got eliminated by the fakers last year....and now "next" year has arrived :D

AlphaSigOU 05-26-2003 02:58 AM

San Antone's my vote as well.

SATX*APhi 05-26-2003 03:12 AM

life, I guess it's been a while since I've been down that way. :D

It sounds like we have a few votes for Rudy's. I think Crabby Jacks would be cool though. They have music, no? Also, as for the after dinner spot, if we are going somewhere that is 21+, we need to make sure everyone is 21. If not, we need to see about somewhere else. I am thinking that everyone going is 21+ though.

wreckingcrew 05-26-2003 03:14 AM

Well, if we go the 27th we can celebrate me being 24 :D

Kitso
KS 361 * 3 = amount of days i've been legal to drink :D

That's our date. Friday, June 27. :D In San Antonio.

Dinner and after TBA.

adduncan 05-27-2003 09:11 AM

This all sounds great to me and my other half.

If we do SAT, my hat is in the ring for Mi Tierra for dinner.
We just sent my SIL and her husband there for the weekend, they came back new people. :D

Adrienne (PNAM-2003)
:D

wreckingcrew 05-31-2003 02:44 AM

Well all,

I'm BACK in the Alamo City!!! well, not the Alamo City, really Boerne, but it's close enough.

I expect to recieve some PMs from some of you SA residing folk shortly ;)

Kitso
KS 361 times i was like, wow, i can't believe i'm not living in CS anymore

Rhonda,

let me know also when you will be there-I could possibly go for the day.

Karen

aggieAXO 05-31-2003 09:45 AM

I am assuming Rudy's is Rudy's BBQue? I love their breakfast tacos and BBQ sause but as a vegetarian there would not be much for me to eat for dinner, How about Alamo Cafe on 281? or Olive Garden? I promise I won't be difficult-if ya'll want Rudy's I'll have their delicious potato salad (also my fav) and some beans/bread.

Does anyone know of a small restaurant that is not so trendy but is good so there won't be a huge crowd to tend with?

DeltaSig 05-31-2003 10:46 PM

YESSS!!

Hopefully, by the time everyone figues out what's going on. We'll have a place set, I still like the pat idea though. Been more concerned with the spurs lately than this bored but I'll be in touch more when the championship is over and our Championship banner is hanging in the SBC.

My vote as well. :D It's a pretty big place, too, so if we had to wait for a table, it wouldn't be a long wait. I could also get there early to put us down on the waiting list.

wreckingcrew 06-07-2003 11:54 AM

I just wanted to say that all of y'all that are thinking bout coming down need to definately find a way to get down here.

lifesaver, SATX and i have had a blast this last week hangin out and trying different bars all over SA.

Last night we even got a drunken phone call from AGDiva and KDatUTC while they were partyin it up on their way to Atlanta.

So, let's plan on meetin at Rudy's on the 27th. We can all meet up there and then drive into SA to Mi Tierra for dinner :D

Kitso

OK... so what's the word -- we on for the 27th? Getting close on a cutoff date for buying cheap plane tickets on SWA and making my 'freebie' reservation at the Hampton Inn Riverwalk. (Won two free nights at some travel show I went to a few months ago.)

Gonna hafta rush it to Love Field right outta work and check in to the hotel before hitting the party scene though.

Yeah, the date is the 27th of June. So, get your tickets!

A freebie reservation at the Hampton Inn Riverwalk? Sounds like we just got our meeting place and late-night party locale :D

lifesaver 06-10-2003 04:33 AM

looks like SATX*Aphi is the ccordinator, so I'll defer to her.

Whaich is my way of saying I dotn know what the hell is up till she tells me.

Its gonna be a blast. A year in the making.

SATX*APhi 06-10-2003 02:29 PM

Mi Tierra sounds good. :)

The address is 218 Produce Row. It would be best that you go to www.mapquest.com, click on directions at the top, and get accurate directions. I could copy and paste for you, but only you know best where you will be coming from. :)

I say we meet there about 7:00pm-ish.

Sound good to everyone?

SATX*APhi 06-16-2003 06:23 PM

So who is still down? We had lots of prospects at the beginning. I really hope I get to meet a few of you all. :D So who's down?
