I'm still a baby (21:D ) but for me it's driving up and down the roads and from one state to another state for hours in my own car. I use to dream of what my own car would be like when I was in high school, so it's cool that now I know.

Having a great credit score:D

Being able to take out loans and get an apartment without having a co-signer and being able to pay for it out of my own money.

My mom not having to pay for anything for me;)

Wearing blazers and heels almost every day at work. I work at a law firm and I don't have to wear them but it makes me feel like I'm actually already an attorney:D

For some reason planning to go to law school and planning on getting a masters makes me feel grown. Just something about continuing my education that I find to be a sign of great maturity and wisdom. But lord knows I need to go back to grade school for spelling and grammer lol.:p

I got my first taste of what it feels like to really be grown, when I had car trouble and couldn't call my daddy to pay for it.:(

1. when the little boys at Radio Shack snickered at the record player & I was all "siced" to see one...

2. When I rocked my fake pony tail at work & it flew off in front of co-workers and I didn't take off for the rest of the week. I just picked that bad boy up and shoved it back in.

3. when my mother gave me my Christening gown and I couldn't imagine being that small and I started crying, knowing that I could never go back.

4. When I slapped down $800 to get my damn brakes fixed and I didn't even know where the money came from. God is good all the time...

CrimsonTide4 12-01-2005 10:04 AM

having boy company :o :p ;)

being the one to give my mother advice about certain things and she "hear" me

Having someone tell me I'm in my mid-20s and 30 is right around the corner. If you told me this when I was 14, 30 was ancient to me. :o

- grocery shopping
- taking my daughter to school and activities

My mother lives with my family due to me taking care of her because of illness. I feel "grown" during those times when I have to remind her of respecting the fact that she's in our home and the way that we run things in our home. For example, when she attempts defends my daughter when my husband or I chastise her. I'm like "mom, HELLO but we are the parents and you are going to have to respect our parenting practices!" Now, that makes me feel grown.

Also, I feel grown when I pay our mortgage payment every month. WHOA!!!!!

*Seeing forbidden treats like big lollipops and gumballs and knowing I've got my own money in my pocket and I can waste it on candy if I want.

*My mother came to visit me and was indulging in a bad habit that's gotten on my last nerve for the last 25 years. All of a sudden I had an epiphany and said, "This is my house, and you can't do that in my house." And she stopped!

Also,
-having a husband
-when I got pregnant and I was nervous like I was 17 and I was like, hey I am 27
-having kids
-being called ms. or ma'am....a few years ago I was on the bus and a high school student told another one "man let that lady sit down"

A couple of days ago, I was at my cousins' house for a family gathering. A close family friend who's only 11 months older than I am and I were attacking the plate of potatoes like nobody's business. We started talking about potatoes and she was saying how she doesn't cook them a lot and I told her my recipe that I always make. Then we just looked at each other and went "when did we get to the point in our lives when we exchange recipes?"

Ascension30 05-25-2006 04:47 PM

what makes me feel grown?

-The first time I went to a bachelorette party

-When my 11 year old cousin told me she goes on the internet and I found myself becoming increasingly bothered and worried thinking about what she sees and hears and who she talks to online

-When i hang out with my LSs who are 10-15 years older than me (until an old song comes on and they look at me like "you don't know nothin about this" lol)

BluBlaZon 05-25-2006 07:52 PM

I knew I was grown when..

I hosted my OWN toy party in my OWN apartment and catered it with my OWN food.

Being called by my family members to do stuff..like take cousin so and so here, bring this by, can you take care of this--the responsibility part

Seeing my name on everything--bills, bills, bills, insurance papers, and everything else yo mama or daddy took care of for you!

Oh the one thing that made me feel real grown---is when your mother or father or grandparent says--"Baby, you're GROWN, it is your decision"!!

PerfectVerse06 05-25-2006 08:31 PM

1) Realizing that the parties and clubs I used to get excited about going to have lost their luster and appeal to me. I don't feel like I have to go out every weekend like I did in undergrad.

2) Having the girls over for drinks and talking about life and listening to jazz music instead of throwing rowdy house parties where the music drowns out the conversation.

3) Getting my first cubicle at work LOL!! And I've decorated my cube quite nicely! :p

4) My 401K

5) Actually thinking about retirement instead of just focusing on the next year of my life.

6) Paying bills.

7) Living alone and not having any major problems that have doubted my ability to take care of myself.

8) Dating whomever I want (even if he's not take-home-to-mom material) just because. This was before I met Mr. Perfect, of course! :)

Rain Man 05-25-2006 09:09 PM

- The deed to my house

- The 3-4 (or more) noticeable strands of gray hair on my head

- Having body and facial hair

- Realizing that I am capable of making a baby--May 7, 1988 was a notable day in my life that I will never forget, second only to August 13, 1988.

- Not being able to do my famous Leslie Nielsen dance move at First Fridays anymore because I am gaining weight and when I do the move, it isn't nearly as fluid as it originally was.

- Going to parties and getting sleepy around midnight, as opposed to being able to party until 2, 4, and at one time 6 a.m. with no problem whatsoever.

- Having nude (or semi-nude) women in my bed and not having to worry about Moms coming in on us.

- Telling young folk about the good old days back in the 80s and what a glorious decade it was.

- Having a wallet full of money (my childhood, teen, and young adult years I often didn't have two nickels to rub together--shoot I am the original founder of Broke Phi Broke).

- My metabolism slowing down (as I kid I could eat a ton of junk food and not gain a single pound--and was extremely skinny to boot), now if I eat a single McDonald's $1 cheeseburger I gain a gut and a half.

StillSearching 05-26-2006 01:49 PM

I knew I was grown when:

-I went to college

-Moved to another city without having to lift a finger or pay for it

-Bought my first car

-Bought my first house

1. Not having to answer to anyone.

2. Coming and going as I please.

3. Having my own things in my own name such as insurance, apartment, etc.

4. Working a full-time job.

5. Buying alcohol, porn, blacks, and other things I couldn't before.

6. Having company when I please.

7. Getting in places that I couldn't before.

8. Cooking and cleaning for myself. Hell, doing everything for myself.

9. Talking to people on a whole new level such as teachers, older family members, etc.

My $100,000 law school debt makes me feel really, really, really grown!

Being exhausted and vomiting from dehydration and having my parents tell me I'm grown, go take care of myself:(.

i feel grown when i take care of my financial responsibilities
and when i get to decide what kind of cereal i want to buy, there should be a ban on puff wheat i hated that growing up!

IvySpice 05-31-2006 12:22 PM

I forgot to add -- having a secretary!! She pops into my office to ask if I need anything...and if I say no, she offers suggestions of things she could do (wash out a vase, bring me more pens, remind me about appointments). And she's got to be 25 years older than I am. It makes me feel like Melanie Griffith in "Working Girl." Corporate America has its up sides.

Watching the beginning of the end for my baby girl (puberty  ) :)

KAPPAtivating 06-01-2006 12:05 PM

1.Getting REAL taxes taken out of your checks.
2.The fact that I get sleepy around 10:00 every night (I used to could stay up all night).
3.If we are going out and we haven't made it out before 11:00, count me out--I'm going to sleep.
4.My baby sister just graduated High School
5.People refer to me as "Mr."
6.When I drink, I get sleepy, not crunk!

Girl, I feel ya.

Wanting to shave her legs, wear makeup and all.

And giggling when she says that ____ is kinda cute.

nikki1920 06-01-2006 01:30 PM

I felt grown up yesterday.

I took my 8 year old to the orthodontist.

Her dad and I then discussed the breakdown of payment, he's covering what my insurance won't. Then today I called the insurance to have them explain how much they would cover.

I felt grown.

I feel grown when my college roommates are planning a 30th b'day bash next month AND a end of the year trip to celebrate 30 years of life and almost 10 years of friendship.

DSTinguished1 06-01-2006 04:17 PM

I feel grown

1. When my mother discusses her love life with me (ewww) LOL

2. When I can discuss my love life with my mother :o

3. Being a supervisor

4. Taking care of my niece

5. Not caring about what people think of me.

6. Doing crazy things with my hair (mom would not let put scissors, color, or weave close to my head)

7. Budgeting and paying bills

8. Ditto to whoever said metabolism slowing down. Man I could out eat a grown man when I was younger and was still skinny as a toothpick. Now I sniff Krispy Kreme donuts and I developed pudges and curves all over :(
