WOW
That last ad is wild. I'm not even really sure what I think about that one. However, I think the Gucci ad does bring up some interesting issues. While, this is the US and not Europe, our "hush-hush" views about sex may have created some serious social problems here at home. These attitudes that reject the beauty of a nude body or sex allow for negative attitudes that are psychologically harmful to surface. For instance, many people have said, and will still say, that the vagina is dirty or that it is wrong for a woman to enjoy sex. This leads to women partaking in unnecessary and many times unhealthy practices to "clean" themselves, or women who go their whole lives either sexually unfulfilled or ashamed of their sexual pleasures. Now most people on ths message board may not be facing that reality. I believe many women today are sexually secure and are unconcerned w/society's views. However, some women are still inhibited by these attitudes. Anyways, I know this is just 1 ad and probably not that important, but maybe if we were more accepting of sex and the human body it would reduce some of our sexual crimes, or abortions amongst young, unmarried women, or any of the other several issues that are facing US society.
Just My Opinion Folks, Marie |
So, this justifies that one should not be held to a higher standard even in advertising?
SOME ISHT should remain in Playboy, Playgirl, Penthouse and the like... Excuses, excuses.... |
I agree wholeheartedly with AKA2D'91! This is a bit much..

This isn't the Venus D'Milo, this is:
1. a pic of some girls pubic hair 2. a pic of some girl giving "oral pleasure" with the after effects dripping on her knee. Yes, I can see the artisitc beauty. If anything, if we want to talk about this in regards to our society, why are these ads depicting WOMEN in such positions. I don't see ads with men's pubic hair or with men giving a woman "pleasure" or with men in any type of demeaning position? Hmmm, I wonder why :o  |
Well, I haven't come to my final conclusion regarding the girl giving head, so I'm not taking a stance on that. However, as far as female nudity in advertising, I believe that the 2nd ad that was posted had a man butt-naked. Yet, I agree that women are far more exploited in the media than men, so this may be another example of that. There is no denying that there are many societal issues that involve women and sex, I just made the few points that immediatedly struck me as I was reading.

I am speechless(not like the girl in the pic though, my mouth is open from shock!) |
Geeze Louise...
It's suggestive advertising. Period. You can't actually SEE what they're doing so the mind wants to complete the picture. We as humans do it all the time. It's a great marketing tool. Aside from that, that photo was designed to get a rise out of people(bad pun, I know:)), to be controversial. Obviously it has done that.

That's horrible, and I consider myself a pretty left-leaning person. It goes beyond the limits of good taste, right into exploitation...

Next thing you know the Gap will use Monica's DNA stained blue dress in its ads. ;)

You know, if it wasn't for the fact that someone actually put the pics here, I seriously doubt that most of us (here on GC) would have even seen them. I may have seen them simply because of my career field and the pubications I have privy to. I see stuff like this all the time. Now if these particular pictures are in magazines that are in US circulation, which mags would they be in? Modern Bride? Yeah right. I would say the gucci ad maybe one of the top fashion mags like Harpers (i said maybe) or Vouge, more so Vouge International versions. The Puma ad, in a men's mag or a men's hip hop music mag. Some of these pictures may have been out in cirulation LONG before we see them. 2,3,4 years or more. |

Ack, I spoke too strongly. I didn't mean exploitation so much as I did just a general bad image of a woman in this ad, and it shows to me the firm's low opinion of women. I suspect that it's not even a real woman at all--who'd pose for this?
How could this encourage any one to buy Pumas?! |

hey - hang on - those Puma ads aint real
hello greekchat frequenters.
You may think what you like of Tom Fords ads ( the shaved gucci http://ad-rag.com/7441.php the nude man http://ad-rag.com/6124.php and the extremly pale sophie Dahl http://ad-rag.com/179.php ) but don't get all upset about them "puma ads" they aren't real and they never ran anywhere. after posting them here http://ad-rag.com/102946.php together with a very real bulgarian "flirt vodka" ad - Puma contacted us with this: http://ad-rag.com/103608.php just thought i'd let you know - and warn you a little. Puma has been busy sending cease and desist orders to those sites who host images of the ads depicted. cheerio :D (http://ad-rag.com 's host) |
