When are the presentations???? I'm dying to know what school this is.... :D |
 That's great news! :) |
What fantastic news for both the sororities and fraternities!!! Good luck to everyone invited to present at carnation's school. Christin |
I am so excited that Tri Sigma is presenting!!!! I am a member of the only Sigma chapter in GA and we would love to help out a new colony!!! I wish I could be at those presentations... We're such a great national sisterhood, I would love to help spread it in GA!!!!! I also date a Chi Phi, they're great guys and I'm glad to see their brotherhood expanding! |
HOORAY! carnation, I am so pleased for you!!!!!!!!! How exciting for your college!!!!!!!!!! |
LOL!!! I just told a KD the news. She said, "Oh, KD HAS to get the older one. I want them for us. I'm leaving to see what I can do now!" But the younger one is only slightly smaller and has fantastic women too. Also, there are bunches of unaffiliated women who will want to pledge now that nationals are coming--it's the big topic of conversation on campus! |
how great!!! carnation, since they invited 4 sororities to present are they hoping to add a third chapter? i know you had mentioned before that there might be enough interest to start a 3rd group from the ground up. or are they just waiting to see how presentations go? |
There was a third sorority here until last year. They were old (about 90 years) and up until a few years ago, powerful. I'm not sure what zapped them but I think it was taking the wrong people for a couple of rushes--then, of course, they had a hard time taking in members. Because of the past hazing, there are also a lot of sophs, juniors, and seniors who never pledged. The hazing is over with forever but these women refused to join while it was going on--more power to them! I think that many would consider Greek life now. These include women who I'd be proud to put my pin on...sometimes I look out at my classes and think, "Now that one would really be an outstanding Greek...that other one would make a great president...etc." So yes, I think that there's definitely room for a third sorority that's as big as the other 2. I'll bet that when the nationals come, the excitement will spur interest in colonizing from the ground up! |

You sound so excited! I'm so happy for your campus! Good Luck with Presentations! |
Congratulations!! This is wonderful news! I have already posted on carnation's earlier thread the story of Valpo's seven sororities. Things have definitely changed for the better. Women are joining now that would not even considered it due to previous hazing during pledging. The change isn't easy. but it can happen. Each chapter will have its moments as will the greek advisor. Five years later, we are such a strong Greek commmunity. Valpo and John Caroll prove that smaller, religiously-affiliated schools can transition from local to inter/national successfully. Best of luck with the process! KD seems to be getting quite good at transitions of this type so I am not surprised to see them on the list. Each of the organizations presenting has so much to offer. I have met many women, collegians and alums, from each group, and I have so much respect for them. Have fun!! ValpoKD |

any news on when presentations are going to be? |
I'm told at the end of the month. A sorority member said that there will be a meeting next week regarding whether the present sororities will be assumed by 2 nationals or the nationals will start from scratch and the locals will be ended. No clue on which will happen...up to now, people always said that each local would convert to a national. |
Woohoo! There are signs all over campus inviting not only the members of the local sororities but also unaffiliated women to the national presentations at the end of the month. Still no clue on how they're going to form--whether 2 groups will assimilate 2 locals and a third will form independently--or the locals will dissolve and all-new groups will form. |
Who gets to decide if they'll be taken as groups or individuals? I'm just kinda curious:) but this all sounds so exciting! :) Tau Love Lil E |
Wish I could see all of that happening - please keep us updated. GREAT GREAT GREAT!!! |
Bump, cuz I'm curious as to how things are going?? When are/were presentations? Good turnout/signup??? |
I haven't talked to the Student Life Director since we got back but somewhere I heard that the presentations are supposed to start in a week. Seems like Gamma Phi's is supposed to be April 12-13 and I don't know about the rest. Lil E, it seems like the nationals would decide about the group thing? Although with the local numbers being at 100+ and 70+, maybe the nationals would have to be unhappy with several of the members to turn down the whole group and want to pick and choose.Does anyone know how this is usually done? Personally, I can only think of one local member I wouldn't want--the mean one who used to cleat my kids in softball. Otherwise, they're all great! Maybe everything will be finalized before we leave for the summer!:) |
Pros and Cons to both. If they break up the groups there could be resentment among sisters. Also there could be paranoia of sharing their locals secrets while bonding with thier new sisters. But if they don't break up the chapters, with the locals history of hazing, it could be hard to break their negative traditions. |

Breaking news! Kappa Delta presents tomorrow afternoon! Phi Mu presents Thursday afternoon! :D |
I'm going to try so hard to go, although I have to pick up my oldest son at that time and deposit the baby somewhere too. I'd like to get the other professors who are national Greeks to come wearing their pins, though none of us belong to the groups who are presenting. Well, the dean claims to be a KD but when a KD alum gave her the handshake or challenge or whatever, she said that the dean looked at her, puzzled. LOL!! I hope the dean isn't a perp! |

Yeah--but they were alone in her office! |

Gamma Phi, Phi Mu and Kappa Delta! How exciting for everyone! GOOD LUCK!!!!! I can't wait to learn what happens next! Christin |
So, Tri Sigma isn't presenting any longer??? :( |
As far as I know, Tri Sig is still being considered! There just haven't been any dates announced. |
I hope they like Phi Mu!!! Carnation, good luck to your college. I hope they find what they are looking for. |
Good Luck to all of the sororities that are presenting at Carnation's school! :) |
I can't wait to hear all about the presentations!! Finally some action on the rush thread! |
I had to leave before the presentations and worse yet, none of the local members I know are at home! I give up, I'm going to bed, and I'll just wait and grill everybody tomorrow! I can't wait to hear if they slipped the dean the handshake, hehe.:D |

Although I couldn't make it, I grabbed the first students I saw and here's what happened: KD did a great job! There were over a hundred women there and many more wanted to come but had labs and couldn't. They did, however, sign up at the Student Life Office. Most of the women there were already affiliated with one of the locals but I hear that many who are interested and couldn't come aren't Greek yet. I asked the girls if any of the members of the locals were rude--I was afraid that the little core they have who are resisting nationalization might be. They said that the girls who were anti-nationalization were asked by others in the sororities to stay away and they did. One girl said that a member of her sorority was kind of a jerk but it wasn't related to that--that she's just a jerk anyway! LOL!!! One local has had the colors and flower and 1 symbol of KD forever so members of the other local were trying to "get past" that and look at the aims, etc. of KD--not at the green and white! OK, Phi Mu tomorrow-- |
Yipee this is like rush all over again! Thanks for the update Carnation!! |
You're right, this is so exciting! I can't wait to hear how the Phi Mu presentation went! |
 Woo Hoo! :D |
Phi Mu's presentation was fantastic! Apparently, one of our locals has fallen in love with them and I warned them that the love affair will have to be mutual...I pray that it is! See, Phi Mu wasn't one of the first groups to respond to our notice to NPC. I emailed them and asked them if they realized that our college had briefly had one of their earliest chapters and I guess they'd overlooked that because they contacted us and said they would be coming! And it turns out that that was their Nu chapter!!!! So...I think that the other local is kind of partial to KD because they share so many things. There are, however, bunches of unaffiliated women who want to go national and I hear that there's definitely room for a thrid and maybe even fourth group! |
This sounds so great! :D How exciting for your school and students! |
YEAH!! That's so great! The potential for three new national sorority chapters! And for Phi Mu to have the resurrection of one of their oldest chapters! Hopefully everything will work out for both the national groups and the locals, as well as the women who want to start a new group!! I know we are all breathlessly waiting to hear more!! carnation, I am so proud to have you as my sister! You embody Panhellenic spirit and action! PPL! |
*~ How exciting!!! ~* Best of luck to all parties involved - the school, NPC sororities, the locals, and the ladies wishing to join a GLO!!! |
This is definitely neat! Thanks so much for sharing this exciting time with us! .....Kelly :) |
Another update! Tri Sig has backed out so we're back to three groups. The director says that after Gamma Phi's presentation, the 2 groups already here will vote on affiliation and then something will be done with the unaffiliated girls; I don't know how they'll go about that. Then the ball will be in the nationals' courts...hopefully each local group will be matched with the national they want. Maybe we'll know something before we leave for the summer! She expects that colonization will occur next year. |
