Loving you Against my Will- Gary Allen Hurt - Johnny Cash Fancy - Reba McEntire You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This - Toby Keith |

You beat me to it. Of course it didn't mention divorce. I always get a funny feeling when someone asks about the "best ever" song in any genre -- because most of the answers are generally songs by current artists. There are a few exceptions above: Willie, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, etc. But what about some of the original Bluegrass stuff? What about original "rock-a-billy?" How about folk crossover?" Or some of the early Applachan music? How about Elvis? What about Patsy Cline or other from that era? (Oops, I see honnychile mentioned Patsy in rereading, but I think you understand the point.) Maybe I'd feel more comfortable if the question were, "What's your favorite country song?" or something like that. "Country" is really some of the only truly totally "American" music. As I think JAM was pointing out, the answer to this question is really almost impossible without years of study and encyclopedic knowledge of the artform. But, it's still fun to know what you all like. |
