I'm getting her a Chi O one, and I can probably scrounge up a Pi Phi one too, but it would be tough. Anyway, all the info possible is good, and I'll keep you posted!

From what I have heard, rush at Duke is more relaxed.

I have a close friend from high school that just transferred to Appalachain State University and is rushing. Their rush is in late Janurary and they have: Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa, Kappa Delta, Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, and Delta Zeta. I have another friend that is already a Sig Kap there.

Elon and Wake Forest Universities also hold winter rush.

My friend who is a Kappa Delta at East Carolina University told me they have informal rush coming up in February.

And of course Washington and Lee rush starts Monday (January 6th!!!!!)

SnakeyKPledge 01-06-2003 06:38 PM

I'm a Sigma Kappa at Appalachian State...who is your friend? And we do have rush starting January the 26th, and bid day is the 1st of Feb.

KappaKittyCat 01-06-2003 07:13 PM

Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin) begins formal rush/recruitment next week. The sororities begin with an informational meeting on Thursday, January 9th. First set is Sunday the 12th, second set is Monday the 13th, and Preference is Thursday the 16th, with Bid Night on Friday the 17th. The fraternities have stuff going on during the week, too, and their Bid Day is Saturday the 18th. All-Greek bowling party is that night! Our groups are:

DG
KAQ
KKG
SAI

BQP
DTD
SFE
FDQ
FKT
FMA

uwgirl 01-06-2003 07:35 PM

I'm thinking of going through informal spring recruitment at UW-Madison, so I'm looking forward to that. It's at the end of January, just one week this time, I think. I'm not sure what sororities are doing it, but my friend in Alpha Phi said her sorority is doing it. If anyone finds out what sororities are doing informal recruitment at UW, let me know! :)

dixiesong3131 01-06-2003 07:39 PM

Baldwin-Wallace College

Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio has women's and men's rush in the spring since 2000, I believe. Spring rush was originally planned for a four year trial period, but there hasn't been any word on if the Greek Life Staff is planning on switch back to fall or not. The sorority members (Phi Mu, Alpha Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, Zeta Tau Alpha) like Spring Rush overall, but the frats are definitely missing Fall Recruitment(Pi Lambda Phi, Phi Kappa Tau, Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Lambda Chi Alpha). It's my first year on this side of rush so I am excited to see how everything goes down!

maggieaxid 01-06-2003 11:27 PM

breathesgelatin- you are right, elon holds spring rush the last week of january.....do you know anyone there??? i graduated there in 2000.

I believe Gamma Phi Beta is, I'm not sure, but I will check - and I just saw all the houses at Madison, they are gorgeous!

PhiMuJulia 01-06-2003 11:51 PM

No Spring rush at WCU, just COBs, thank god, I hate rush

tinydancer 01-06-2003 11:58 PM

Just for interest, why do you hate rush? OK I am just that nosey!
If you don't mind telling, that is.

breathesgelatin 01-07-2003 04:02 AM

SnakeyKPledge-- I PM'ed you.

maggieaxid-- I tried to PM you but your box was full! Then I decided that my message wasn't that private... :D so here 'tis:

Yes, I have a very close friend from high school that pledged Sigma Kappa at Elon last year. She has spoken very highly about all the groups there. I visited the school but at that time did not think the Greek system was something I was interested in. I would love to go back and see the chapters there now! :)

Ironically my friend at App and my friend at Elon were like best buds in high school... I thought it was so cute that they both fit with SK at their schools! They share even more now and still do stuff together all the time. :)

uwgirl 01-07-2003 04:50 AM

Hey, thanks for responding GeekyPenguin! I sent you a pm, so I'd love it if you let me know if GPhiB was doing spring recruitment!

GPhiBLtColonel 01-07-2003 05:54 AM

As far as I know....

...our Gamma chapter at UW Madison will not be doing COB since they made quota during Fall Rush. Sorry:(

Cele is correct. UWGirl, I'm sorry I didn't answer your PM, but my computer is not promoting the highest form of computerhood right now and after like 9 tries I gave up. I'll ask around with my Greek friends from Madison and see who else is - you can't go wrong with most of those sororities - and they all have such gorgeous homes! I was up there the other day getting some stuff from the bookstore and was so impressed with ours, as well as KKG and Pi Phi, but they're all incredible compared to my chapter's house. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes!

sugar and spice 01-07-2003 08:00 PM

On the subject of Wisconsin sorority houses . . .

I love the Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Kappa Gamma houses at Madison -- they are gorgeous. I like the Delta Gamma house a lot too. And the Chi Phi fraternity house is my absolute favorite on all of Greek row; it has been since I was tiny.

From what I remember from recruitment, almost all of the houses had equally beautiful interiors.

maggieaxid 01-07-2003 08:22 PM

breathes- what a small world! I probably wouldn't know your friend, bc i am slowly coming to the realization that i am getting old- granted i graduated in 2000. anywhoo, sigma kappa has a great chapter at elon, they colonized the fall of my sophmore year, so i had already become a sister of AZD. But a few of my good friends were SK's and they loved it!

Too bad Pi Phi wasn't at elon- I am a legacy, however when I was looking at schools, greek life wasn't at the top of my list either!

AOIIBrandi 01-08-2003 12:04 PM

Rollins College in Orlando starts rush January 26. Wish our girls luck. This will be AOII's first formal recruitment :)

ShyViolet 01-08-2003 07:29 PM

UAF!

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is having formal recruitment beginning the 21st of January. aurora_borealis, what sorority are you in at UAA?
I wish all of you having formal recruitment the best of luck and remember to have fun! :)

uwgirl 01-09-2003 03:47 PM

I contacted the panhel recruitment chair, and these are the sororitieis doing spring recruitment at University of Wisconsin- Madison:
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Sigma Delta Tau

MoxieGrrl 01-09-2003 06:26 PM

I'm so excited for all of you! Going through recruitment on either side is so exciting, and I wish everyone good luck. I must say....it is nice to see January roll around and not be planning all of the events. There are benefits to alum life ;)

Is recruitment over at Valpo? How did they do?

Those are some great choices, UWGirl! And sugar and spice is a DDD! :)

uwgirl 01-09-2003 07:21 PM

I know! I'm really excited about spring recruitment now, because one of the sororities that is doing spring recruitment was one that I really liked a lot when I went through fall recruitment. Wish me luck!!! :)

Not yet! I'm driving out tomorrow to assist the chapter with Theme Night (girls narrow to 4 of the 7 sororities), staying for Saturday's Preference Night (narrowed to 2 sororities), and Sunday is Bid Day. Dunno what I'll be doing on bid day, but I hope to get the names/hometowns/majors of the new alphas for the webpage, and take lots of photos for the page! It's set to go from 3-8 p.m. Sunday.

I'm sure we'll know more by Monday! : )

Thanks for posting those! (I wish they would update the Panhel website more than once every semester . . . grrrr.) I already knew about Alpha Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta, but there are more sororities doing spring recruitment than I thought, which is awesome. And you have an advantage since you went through recruitment in the fall, so you have an idea of where you want to go.

Of course I'm going to invite you to visit Tri Delta :) but let me know how it goes no matter where you end up going. I'm so excited for you -- although I'm sure rush on the other side is going to be fun for me too.

Recruitment was tiny-- 84 started recruitment going for seven sororities. Four made quota of eleven, one made ten, one made nine, and one made two.

Which sucks, because when I was there (and in a local), quota was twelve FRESHMEN and eight upperclassmen for a quota of TWENTY.

How can we get more people interested in formal, and not just COB?

Emory rush!

Hi! Emory University in Atlanta has spring recruitment. Here's the schedule:

Convocation: Jan 16 (Th)
Round 1: Jan 18
Round 2: Jan 21 (T)
Round 3: Jan 23 (Th)
Preferentials: Jan 24 (Fri)
Bid Day: Jan 25 (Sat)

We have:

Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Tri-Delt
Delta Phi Epsilon
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sigma Delta Tau
...and one more sorority that's brand new...it's an Asian interest sorority...but I can't think of the name. I'm not sure if they do formal recruitment or not.

I'm a PNM, and I'm really excited, but super nervous. I really don't know what to wear. I know the girls are really nice, but I'm so anxious to make a good impression!

ZetaGirl22 01-18-2003 11:12 PM

Hey-this message is in reply to Iowa's message a few pages back.......

I was a Zeta Tau Alpha at UMD and graduated last May. I have to say I had the time of my life there!!!!!!! A real plus of our greek system is that b/c it is so big, there really is a house for everyone. I wish your sister the best of luck, and just remember to tell her, rush at can be very overwhelming and tiring, so just remember to pace herself, and stick with it....she has everything to gain! MD greek life is SO fantastic.

EmorySarah 01-27-2003 12:21 AM

Yay!

:D I was just inducted as a pledge of the Delta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Delta Tau!!!! :D

Congratulations to your chapter! I heard that you guys ended up with the most new pledges on campus, which is awesome!

The best of luck to your new pledge class... I'm sure they're going to follow through with the tradition in excellence that Pike's established at UOP.

XOXO,
Annie.
