I missed the music, Duran Duran, Go-Gos, Tears for Fears, Simple Mind, and all the pop music.

I missed the freedom of being a teenager. No worries and no cares.

Oh, yeah those were the good old days.

But I will never missed the Geri Curl

Dang, I miss the 80's..........I miss my sit and spin, my big wheel, my Strawberry Shortcake banana seat bike, my Simon Sez and my Rubix Cube............those where the days.......

Do any of you remember the Alphabet People in kindergarden? Mr. M with the munchie mouth? Miss A that always went Ah-Ah-Choo? (maybe that was just an Ohio thing...)

Honeykiss1974 03-12-2004 12:06 PM

Ahhhh, good ol' sit n spin. :)

Do they still make that?

Yes....my son received one for Christmas. It plays music as you spin. :D

Dedicated2Delta 03-12-2004 02:30 PM

Remember those old Barbie houses that had the furniture painted on the background and the elevator only worked when you pulled the string.

How many of you had a Glo worm? I had 2 of them.......loved those too!

Are you referring to The Letter People?

If so, I remember watching it as a kid on public TV on sick days/holidays after the game shows went off.

And yes, it was just an Ohio thing (produced by the Ohio Department of Education).

Speaking of the 80s, did anyone else spend their days off from school watching educational programming on TV? The majority was produced by the Agency for Instructional TV/Technology (AIT)

The shows I liked were:

Wordsmith
Write On
Well, Well, Well (w/Slim Goodbody)
Roomnastics
Studio M (produced by the Ohio Dept. of Education)
It Happened Here (another ODE show)
I Need to Read (ODE) To this day I still sing the theme song.
It Figures
Turnabout (loved the psychedelic opening and theme song)
Inside Out

Just to name a few...

living4christ 04-18-2004 09:50 PM

1. 21 Jump Street-When Johnny Depp still looked good!
2. Degrassi High- The original one that used to come on PSB.
3. 80's Hip Hop- No hoes and guns (or at least very little).
4. Cherelle/Pebbles/Tina Marie-Still my favorite female singers
5. She's Gotta Have It- the first Spike Lee joint!
6. The Jackson 5 cartoon-did this come out in the 80's??? Don't think so, maybe they were just repeats, but I loved that cartoon.
7. Crappy, low-budget music videos-Michael Jackson "Rock With You". . .but at least he was still cute in that one.
8. Speaking of Micheal, pleather pants and pleather red jackets like the one he wore in "Beat It":p
9. Oh, I almost forgot. . .Garbage Pail Kids!!!!!!! My mom hated the one with the booty face. hehehehehehehehehe:D

Does ANYBODY remember those hats, they were white bucket hats and it had your name spelled out how it sounded? (might have been a DC thing)

Jem and the Gemstones (she had the star earring that she touched and transformed and her enemy band was the Misfits)

Alvin and the Chipmunks (why did these animals go to school)

Falcon Crest

Moonlighting

The football game on the table that vibrated when you turned it on (that made a lot of noise)

Super Mario Brothers, the first one and Duck Hunt

Short mushroom with a long shag

S Curls

Beta

Okay, I have gone way back when you said GEM!!! I had all her dolls and dressed up like her for halloween. I was the first BLACK GEM!!! Well at least in the bronx.

And I do remember those hats. My aunt still has mine with my name on it.

I remember them, I had them all ! You're not alone.:D
________
Ford Duratec Engine

living4christ 04-19-2004 02:43 PM

Good! I'm not crazy then. I had all of them too and my mother just hated them. She thought they were sick, but she bought them for me anyway since they were so popular and all of my friends had them. Needless to say, once the booty faced girl (or guy, i can't remember) came out, she stopped buying them.:D

reddawn18 04-19-2004 03:39 PM

My brother loved them. I remember he had the Shoprits toy truck and plastered all on top of them. And hid the rest inside with his GI Joes. I think my mom stopped buying them when the Garbage Pail movie came out. And the little sexual play was done. ( the crossed her nipple in front of a "twelve" year old actor.) Needless to say, I was happy with my cabbage patches and my little pony.

CrimsonTide4 11-18-2005 10:25 AM

Steve Harvey had me reminiscing this morning on 2 things:

play clothes

and denim iron on patches (when you got a hole in your jeans, knees for me, and mom would get a patch and iron that mug right on, somewhat good as new, lol)

StarFish106 11-18-2005 11:48 AM

Does anyone remember Apple Slice soda? and Apple flavored kool aid? The soda looked like beer but it did have an artifical apple taste to it I kinda liked. I was mad when they stopped selling it.

I had the Barbie remote controlled car too! I also had the Barbie Plaza (older toy that i saw a commercial for it in B/W so that should tell you how old it was)

Did anyone get a doll called Pretty Curls? She came with setting lottion and you could put these teeny rollers in her thick hair (that never stayed). She was my second fave (and last doll) next to baby that away....they were so cute.

Speaking of the 80's...

Why did my Employer give all of us Company Slinkies(sp) and I have been playing with this thing all day?

What was the slinky theme song, my co-worker and I were trying to figure that out?

My error (albeit WAY after the fact).

The Letter People was not produced by the Ohio Dept. of Education, but actually produced by KETC TV 9 in St. Louis, MO (and Abrams & Co. Publishers).

For more info on The Letter People, please click HERE

For more info on any of those instructional TV shows we used to watch in class on filmstrips or at home on sick days, click HERE

OMG, Remember those Saturday morning ABC PSAs?

How many of you remember watching cartoons on ABC and saw those 60 second clips for:

The Bod Squad
Time for Timer
The Chopper
Dough Nuts
O.G. Readmore (in today's lingo sounds like a gangsta for literacy)
H.E.L.P (Dr. Henry's Emergency Lessons for People/Hip Harry Etiquette Lessons for People/High Class Hudson's Earning Lessons for People)

Well now you can see them again and reminisce away.

And oh yeah.....remember "One to Grow On?" they were the commercials on NBC saturday morning with folks from TV shows talking about morals and stuff.

I looooooved Saturday Morning Cartoons! And don't let them all premier the same day! I'd watch one channel all day and tape the other channel, only to watch it after lunch! I'd be watching cartoons until like 6pm!

I found a link that has virtually EVERY cartoon theme song, past and present, Saturday morning or weekday for your enjoyment.

I mean, after 25 years I could finally sing again the theme to the "Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam" which I thought was one of the BEST Saturday morning cartoons out there.

So here is the link. Sing along and enjoy!

You're quite welcome 9dstpm, and I was glad to do it.

BTW, did you check out the ToonTracker.com site for all the Saturday (and weekday) morning cartoon theme songs? If not, you should (see above link). ABC PSAs without the Saturday morning theme songs would be like cornflakes without the milk. ;)
