Gamma Phi Beta from the past has given
A heritage that makes a fuller life. Gamma Phi Beta in the present bids Us strive for lasting values and ideals. Gamma Phi Beta in the days to come Will prove that fundamentals can endure. Therefore we shall embody in our lives The truths that make for finer womanhood. Once more we pledge a loyalty that means Adherence to all true and noble things; A learning that enriches all our days With magic gold that is forever ours; A labor that each hour will glorify The simple, common task, the common cause; A love that will be strong and great enough To encompass and to pity all the world. |
this is a cool thread.
Phi Kappa Psi Creed I believe that Phi Kappa Psi is a brotherhood of honorable men, courteous and cultured, who pledge throughout their lives to be generous, compassionate, and loyal comrades; I believe that I am honor bound to strive manfully for intellectual, moral, and spiritual excellence; to help and forgive my Brothers; to discharge promptly all just debts; to give aid and sympathy to all who are less fortunate; I believe that I am honor bound to strengthen my character and deepen my integrity; to counsel and guide my Brothers who stray from their obligations; to respect and emulate my Brothers who practice moderation in their manners and morals; to be ever mindful that loyalty to my Fraternity should not weaken loyalty to my college, but rather increase devotion to it, to my country, and to my God; I believe that to all I meet, wherever I go, I represent not only Phi Kappa Psi, but indeed the spirit of all fraternities; thus I must ever conduct myself so as to bring respect and honor not to myself alone, but also to my Fraternity; To the fulfillment of these beliefs, of these ideals, in the noble perfection of Phi Kappa Psi, I pledge my life and my sacred honor. |
My sister RedRoseSAI beat me to posting our symphony. It's one of my favourite parts of SAI, and those words are near and dear my heart always. For our 75th, we printed shirts with our Symphony on them, and I wear mine often in warm weather. I think our Chorale sums up much about us, too, so I'm taking the liberty of posting that as well:
Daughters of our great and singing nation Let your voices rise in exultation Music tells unspoken noble creeds Music beautifies the simplest deeds Sing we now to Sigma Alpha Iota. Sing the greatness of the soul and spirit Sing the joy of peace and friendship's merit Music is a kind and truthful speech In a language out of mere word's reach Sing we now to Sigma Alpha Iota. ~Emma |

Phi Sigma Kappa Creed
In the firm conviction that my Fraternity demands of me a life of Faith and Purpose I hereby solemnly declare My Faith in the wisdom and love of God; in the dignity and worth of my fellowmen; in the strength and beauty of true Fraternity; in the history and future of my Country; and in the traditions and program of my Alma Mater. Henceforward, therefore, it shall by My Purpose to remain forever true to this, my fraternity's faith in me and in turn to preserve and promote courageously and unselfishly the chosen ideals of our mutual affection and common endeavor. To this end I dedicate My Life to the maintenance of this Faith and the pursuit of this Purpose so that the ideals of Phi Sigma Kappa, being embodied in me, may be fulfilled in my Character and Conduct, and be known and honored by all men. By these things I stand. |
"Phi Kappa Tau, by admitting me to membership, has conferred upon me a mark of distinction in which I take just pride. I believe in the spirit of brotherhood for which it stands. I shall strive to attain its ideals, and by so doing to bring to it honor and credit. I shall be loyal to my college and my chapter and shall keep strong my ties to them that I may ever retain the spirit of youth. I shall be a good and loyal citizen. I shall try always to discharge the obligation to others which arises from the fact that I am a fraternity man."
Link to text on Phi Kappa Tau headquarters page. Fraternity life in college helped teach me what those words meant. As time goes on, I take them increasingly seriously, especially the last sentence. I firmly believe that Greek life includes not only a commitment to one's fraternal brothers or sisters, but also a commitment to everyone else we encounter and to the communities we are part of. |

These are greay words to live by
The Creed of Sigma Phi Epsilon
I believe in the American College Fraternity. I believe in Sigma Phi Epsilon. I believe in this Fraternity because it would have me strive in every way to live up to the high principles for which it stands. These are VIRTUE, DILIGENCE, AND BROTHERLY LOVE. I believe that the word VIRTUE is an inclusive term; that it is not enough that I be merely passively virtuous: I must be positive on virtue's behalf. Therefore, I will stand aggressively for honesty in all walks of life, and I will speak cleanly, play cleanly, and live cleanly. Whenever I can, I will oppose lawlessness and vice. I believe that unless I succeed in being DILIGENT, I cannot be a good fraternity member. Believing that my Fraternity can be no greater that any of its members, I shall strive to make it so high and so worthy that men will consider it an honor and privilege to belong to it and will strive to be admitted to it. I will not offer concessions to an individual to secure his affiliation, for thus making concessions makes the man more noteworthy than the Fraternity and hence only succeeds in lowering it in his estimation as well as mine. I believe that BROTHERLY LOVE must be given in order to be received, and that it cannot exist without triumph of the principles of VIRTUE and DILIGENCE, for these are essential parts of it. I believe that a man will be make better for having been a member of my Fraternity. I know that I cannot expect the neophyte to be a finished product. Rather I will try to discover whether or not the environment and contact with men of high ideals will make of him a good fraternity man. I believe that as a good fraternity member I must share a rich kinship of spirit with my brothers. Yet I realize that the members must be men of diversified abilities and talents. Among them are to be found the scholar, the athlete, the builder and craftsman, and the organization leader. But the scholar cannot make a fraternity. Nor can the athlete. Nor the craftsman. The good fraternity member must be par excellent in manhood. I believe that to be a good member I must be loyal to my Fraternity. In order to be loyal to it, I must love it. In order to love it, I must strive constantly to make it worthy of my love. To be loyal to my Fraternity, I must gain a knowledge of it so that I may understand it. I have an obligation to understand what brotherhood means. I believe that in any organized society group rights and privileges are based on individual rights and privileges; that in my Fraternity I possess the same rights and privileges and have the same duties as my fellow members. Therefore, I shall at all times respect duly the rights of others. I believe that obedience to the laws of my community and my country is essential to good citizenship; that the laws and rules of my Fraternity and my chapter are intended to regulate the actions of its members, one with another, and that without fidelity to those laws and rules I cannot be a good citizen and a worthy member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. I believe I should be generous with the faults of a brother, as I should wish him to be with mine. |
The Object of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia:
The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement of music in America and a loyalty to the Alma Mater. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia does not have an official creed as such. However, the quote below is familiar to all Sinfonians -- learned by probationary members (pledges) and quoted by brothers. One might say that it is an unofficial statement of our standards and goals. It came to us as the closing paragraph in a letter to the Brotherhood from Ossian E. Mills, "Father of Sinfonia" and Honorary Grand Supreme President for Life, in the 1912 FMA Annual. Many of us find it be a very meaningful standard. This it is to be a man of the highest type. To be and not seem; to do and not simply to talk; to have the right ideal, the true motive and patiently to transform conduct in accordance with it. So let it be for SINFONIA. |
I don't have the old book with me either...but i found the creed on the Iota Alpha's website...
The Phi Sigma Sigma Founder's Creed To you, Founders of Phi Sigma Sigma, who gave us being and meaning on the twenty-sixth of November, in the year 1913, we dedicate anew your fraternity in its present extent. To the brotherhood of man and to the alleviation of the world's pain, twin ideals which drew you together, we repledge ourselves with new fervor. Witness to your reverance of the goal you set for us, this day shall see a nationwide votary, when all chapters of Phi Sigma Sigma shall do homage unto you and shall devote themselves in act and in belief to the selfless giving which knows no creed |
