We usually don't have snow for Christmas in NYC so it would be great if we had a White Christmas. :) |
I touched snow for the first time last year and I haven't done so since.
It's funny...I freeze up at 65 degrees. Enjoy the winter, folks! :D |

i'm actually hoping for snow.. even if it is just a tiny bit! Since I have moved to the northern part of texas, I have been FREEZING!!! I don't know how you northern people can live like that!!! i have been a human popscile since i got here and the weather dropped under 65 degrees!!! (For my sake, I don't think I will move any farther north !) i lived in south texas for most of my life and didn't get cold weather until december-ish... and it's been fairly cool/cold here since october! (since october, i have discovered the wonderful world of electric blankets!) a couple of weeks ago, I was on my way to class and it was 19 degrees outside (with the windchill :p ) and STILL didn't see any snow! |
its -15 F here right now (-26C) this is when it almost gets to cold to snow. we get the winds coming off of Hudsons Bay and the Arctic Ocean. Ottawa is the coldest capital city in the world, colder even then Moscow.

This is the real difference between north and south
Being a recently displaced Texan in Rhode Island, I can tell you exactly what the difference is. Economics.
Northern people are no more talented at driving in the weather. The thing is, up here the roads are maintained. They are salted and sanded to provide a workable driving surface. Since it is guaranteed to snow or ice, they have those trucks available to do the job, along with snow plows to clear the mess away when it piles up. Okay. In the south, it is veeeeerrrry rare to have a winter storm. So economically it would be stupid to have those resources available. Sure, they have some sand trucks to make things a little better mostly for the emergency vehicles, but salting is not done. So basically, in the south we take the gamble because it is more likely that we won't get weather that warrants use of those resources. So yeah, if Houston had the roads treated and icy slush plowed off to the side, perhaps it wouldn't look like people didn't know how to drive in the weather! We have had 2 snowstorms here in Providence so far this year. I only moved here in July, so I had my first winter driving experiences. With treated roads, I can tell you, it is WAY safer driving in winter weather than driving on the Houston freeways in the pouring rain...hydroplaning is no fun. |
Texas really isn't the south. :p

i'm a southern belle at heart. |
I guess I shouldn't mention that we have 75 degree temps down here... ? http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/ka...irolp_natu.gif
It would be nice to have to break out a jacket during this time of year.. BTW, I have only seen snow about 5 times in my 30+ years of life...and I'm not complaining! |
