What about,

unsigma-like?

or if i hear another one of the DZO's use the word disrespectful i'm gonna drive to UB and truly show them disrespect :D

Respect is earned, not given.

Sorry, my lil Sorority Life rant :)

I know something else i don't want to hear, "mavs beat the spurs". If i don't hear that again for like 6 months, i'll be pretty happy.

Kitso
KS 361 times i've had "concerns" about the ladies of DZO

docetboy 05-28-2003 01:36 PM

Getting back on subject (I know...me!, staying on subject?)

These phrases I never want to hear again:

Congratulations - you're done.

and

Lick my balls - Swallow my load - and DIE!

SigkapAlumWSU 05-28-2003 02:46 PM

Winningest, as in "they are the winningest team this season." I hate it.

Also, I agree with "Diversity" My school uses it to describe everything and I'm just sick of hearing it used at all.

Hootie 05-28-2003 03:03 PM

From someone in retail:

I ask for the sale and.....

Them after two hours of wasting your time - "We're just looking"

or "We're only 18"
or "We're just pretending"
or "We don't have any money"
or "We already bought, we're just comparing"

Or "do you carry Tag watches?"

BLAH! GO AWAY STUPID PEOPLE!

valkyrie 05-28-2003 04:35 PM

I really, really, really hate the word sacks.

Peaches-n-Cream 05-28-2003 07:08 PM

My bad

You graduated from college. You did not graduate college.

AXJules 05-28-2003 07:52 PM

What exactly does "off the chain" mean??? I know what it means, but how in the hell did it become slang for awesome? I'm sooo sick of it.

ThetaLove 05-28-2003 08:04 PM

serial killer
murderer, etc.

on a lighter note, I HATE the work "boink."
Ughhhhh! I don't even know if I spelled that correctly, but I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about.

MTSUGURL 05-28-2003 08:19 PM

Said by the same guy in the same conversation:

"I love you so much. You're just like a sister to me."

"Your friend Mandi is hot!"

LOL that is the single worst verb I've ever heard, agreed. My friends love it.

sigtau305 05-28-2003 08:32 PM

"Man"

the most overused word. Ruben, Mr. "American Idol" has repeated the word so many times in one interview. I gotta pimp slap him for that.:o

ansturge 05-28-2003 09:37 PM

i remember from my cultural anthropology class that languages change 14% each century, SO all of these words that do not exist, will exist in another 97 years or so.....

New words are created all of the time -- think about how many words we use today that were made up by William Shakespeare.

adpiucf 05-29-2003 02:52 AM

The phrase "If you could do that, that would be great/I'd really appreciate it/etc."-- DUH! Of course it would be great and I'd appreciate it!!!!

You're and Your baffles me--- You ARE or possessive YOU-- why is that so hard?

The word "Incentivize"-- this isn't a word!!!! (And I am guilty of using it!)

"Consider this your home away from home" so cliche!

A Place to live, work and play.

Master-Plan

(Can you tell I work in marketing residential real estate?)

Ok, enough ranting... two days left until the weekend! :)

"ManAfacturer"---this one guy always pronounces it manAfacturer instead of the correct way, manUfacturer. It's spelled with a "u" for a reason, you freaking dumbass.

"top 10 list"

Ok, so I'm just sorting through this thread and that's freaking funny as hell, just thought i'd share :-)

David Lee Roth - "And I've always maintained since I wrote all the words, and all the lyrics"

Wow, he is talented. He wrote the lyrics and the words. LOL

And unfortunately, I'm still hearing that lovely phrase Shift Bid

AZpinkkittie 05-29-2003 12:11 PM

"own the issue"

Dude/Dudette (making it girly does not make it better)

Duh-can not stand it and my little sister says it all the time!!!

Aurora6 05-29-2003 01:57 PM

Hmmm....

Yeah, I got a few:

"Good Hair"
"Light Skind-ed" WTH?!
"Talk to the hand"
"Raise the Roof"
"You go girl"
...basically any OLD @rse slang that some people STILL use today. Let it go, you are not hip or cool!
"Hater" or any conjugation of Hate .....

33girl 03-02-2004 04:55 PM

Bumping this because I've got some more.

"Core values"

"Turnkey operation"

"decency on the airwaves"

"Trista"

DeltAlum 03-02-2004 05:04 PM

"Doable."

I hate it every time I say it.

Lil' Hannah 03-02-2004 05:16 PM

Re: Hmmm....

"heart" instead of love. I don't know if people have been using this a while anywhere else, but the girls in my chapter started saying it like 3 years ago, and I still hear people saying it (including said girls from chapter).

More sorority girl speak - "obvi" for obvious and "poss" for possible. Come on.

AOPIHottie 03-02-2004 05:29 PM

I am so sick of "cracker" to describe "white people" My asian ex-boyfriend used this word ALL the time, and when he finally used it to describe me.....See ya.......

I also hate when my boss says "cheese and rice" and "whats up Mary Mary?" I only have ONE name. Not 2. Please only use it one time, since I am the only mary there, I am pretty sure I hear it the FIRST time. Thanks.

and even though I used this word myself for awhile, I am getting tired of Hooker. The girls and I used that word for awhile and I am tired of it.

Last one, when people call people by thier LAST names-if there are more than one Josh at work, ok that was cool, we used last names, but when there is only one "Bob" we don't need to call him by his last name. Geez.

PhiPsiRuss 03-02-2004 05:41 PM

"represent" or "representing" to announce affiliation to a group that has nothing to do with that affiliation.

Like, "I'm here representing Jackson Heights." Great. Now shut up and go back to where you "represent."

James 03-02-2004 05:43 PM

Thats so "dope" . . .

it doesn't even sound cool . . .

preciousjeni 03-02-2004 05:57 PM

1) I CANNOT stand to hear people say, "If I would have known." For heaven's sake, that phrase doesn't exist in the English language. Say, "If I had known, I would/wouldn't have..."

2) I'm SO over that!

3) I had a teacher a while back that used to say "cit-it-sin" for the word "citizen." It drove me crazy!

4) I also hate when people mispronounce non-English words that have become common to English speakers. Ex: La Femme Nikita - ok, "Femme" is not "fehm" it is "fum." AND "laissez-faire" is not "lahzay-fair" it is "lehsay-fair"

5) I HATE the word "Whatever" when people are trying to refute something I've said. Why not just come back with an intelligent response????

6) Please learn the difference between "less" and "fewer." Grocery stores have it wrong!! Don't get sucked in!! "Less" is used for things you CAN'T count. "Fewer" is used for things you CAN count.
*10 Items or Less????? Can you count the Items that you're buying?? If so, then it's 10 Items or Fewer.
*But, you can't (well, wouldn't) count water, so you can have less water in your glass than your friend.

sairose 03-02-2004 06:13 PM

I HATE HATE HATE the word "sweet" as in, "that's a sweet car!" Sounds so dorky.

I also hate when people say, "My bad!"

Dionysus 03-02-2004 06:21 PM

Sell-out

She wanna be white

She wants to be black

I'm not tryin' hear you

"Kilt" for killed

Sho Is!

I reckon

Negro

I'm not ugar-coating

I'm telling you like it is

Substituting nouns with the word "thing" or "whatchumacalit". "T go over there and put that thing in the thing"

Coochie/Twat/Cunt/Pussy

I'm not a racist, my best friend is black!

Pooty

Is that weave in your hair?

Co-sign!! I spent about a year around a whole bunch of people who said "sweet" all the time. I can't STAND to hear it now!

decadence 03-02-2004 11:30 PM

"babyfather" "babymother"
This just annoys and I do not understand what is with this nonsense! :)

The father of a child is a FATHER, and the mother is a MOTHER! Parents, mother, father. Even young mother or single mother etc. Those are all proper words and terms.
And the worst I have heard more recently: "a 1 month old babyperson" when describing a kid. Wtf?! Babyperson?? BABY!!!

Cleansing breaths ;)

cutiepatootie 03-03-2004 12:14 AM

Referring to a previous post regarding shift bids as a word

You and I must worked for AOL at one point that was and will always be an evil evil word because i never got what i wanted when i worked for aol call center.

ADPiSAI 03-03-2004 12:49 AM

cool beans.

and after sitting on hold with my doctor's office for forever...
"Please stay on the line. Your call is very important to us."

DigitalAngel126 03-05-2004 01:26 AM

Okay...Maybe this an idiots-from-Indiana thing, but I HATE IT.  For some reason I hear SO many people saying "Flustrated"...Flustered + Frustrated = Flustrated?? I THINK NOT.

Also, I have a friend who is just an idiot and she pronounces "While" like "Why".... Are L's really that difficult?

Um, and DO NOT ask me "What's up with THAT??!". If you don't know, I probably don't know either, so don't ask me like it's some kind of seceret we're all keeping from YOU.

hottytoddy 03-05-2004 05:57 PM

alikat2 03-06-2004 12:28 AM

wardrobe malfunction

AGDee 03-06-2004 12:44 AM

Amazing.. everything can't be amazing or the word itself loses it's impact (same with awesome)

Absolutely.. it is simply used too often

Out of the box.. get a new corporate catch phrase already

Revisit.. we aren't going to revisit it, we're going to discuss it further, analyze it, investigate it, etc. I didn't "visit" it in the first place!

I'll absolutely revisit this thread when I'm not so amazingly tired and I can think out of the box.

I agree, I am getting tired of hearing this word. Like on the SoapCity commercial...annoying.

Also,

Crunch time
You go Girl
cool beans

krazy 03-08-2004 03:27 PM

My least favorite word is "Java"

If you call coffee "Java", you deserve a scaulding cup of it in the face...

Lady Pi Phi 03-08-2004 03:33 PM

Pollitically Motivated

When we're dealing with politics EVERYTHING is politically motivated.

ETA: Next person on GC to use the phrase politically motivated when discussing politics will getting a beating from my shoe!
