Phi Beta Fraternity: National Association for the Creative and Performing Arts Describe your badge and new member pin Our badge is a gold F super-imposed upon an engraved B. The phi can be plain gold or be set with pearls. Here are the three styles: http://www.phibeta.com/graphics/jewelry/badges.jpg The pledge pin is a small gold F Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc) Over the heart with no other badges/pins above it. (Below is okay, though). I've casually looked for something that states what *type* of clothing it can/cannot be worn with, but I haven't found anything. I've never seen anyone wear it when they weren't dressed up. Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? Technically, no. We can't. Although we used to and now it's highly encouraged by most chapters. Most of the new members wear them all of the time anyways, though. The biggest thing is they can't get "punished" for not having it on. Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc) Yep, chapter guards or officer guards. All of the members I've seen with guards have chapter guards and then officer dangles if those apply to them. I have a chapter guard, but no dangles. Can you use a badge buddy? This thread is the first I've heard of them. Some of my friends were recently joking about how many pins some of our more senior members (nationally) have. This might actually be useful for a few of them! :D Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? No. I think it would be really cool if you could make the pledge pins into a ring after you're initiated, but those are given back to the chapter. What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc) The other piece of official jewelry that anyone can order is our allied arts design. It can be a stickpin or pendant. I want to get the pendant, but haven't yet. Here's a pic: http://www.phibeta.com/graphics/jewe...d_arts_pin.jpg As far as recognition, we have:
I would love it if we had mothers/fathers pins. My mom especially wears pins all of the time, so I know she would be excited about it. There's probably more jewelry that I'm forgetting, but those are the big ones and most common. |
how can we insert pictures into our messages? I tried....:-(

Beta Theta Pi Describe your badge and new member pin Member badge: An eight sided grecian shield of gold and black enamel. At the top of the badge are three stars of gold. Below is a diamond surrounded by a laurel wreath of greenish gold. The Greek letters of Beta Theta and Pi follow, and at the bottom of in Greek is 1839 symbolizing the year of our founding. On the back, at the top is the chapter seal, below clasped hands, and then the owners name and initiation date. http://www.burrpatt.com/BetaThetaPi/...gewdiamond.jpg Pledge pin: Also an eight sided grecian shield. Made of white enamel, it has three stars of gold that extend from the upper left to the lower right. http://www.burrpatt.com/BetaThetaPi/...ipledgepin.jpg Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc) "The standard badge of the Fraternity is to be worn over the heart and in a manner befitting the honor and dignity to which the badge is entitled." I personally frown upon wearing it on a suit jacket, and also when not wearing a dress shirt, but I saw many alumni wearing it with polo shirts at convention... As for other pins, there seems to be no standard, some of our guys wear them below, others next to but the Beta badge is always made most prominent. Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? No they are to wear it in the same manner as the standard badge in our chapter. Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)Probably but I have never seen anyone do it, so status quo would dictate that it doesn't happen Can you use a badge buddy? Since I didn't know what it was until now, I go with no Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? Absolutely not. What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc) There is a specific badge worn by the chapter president. It is called the Kirby badge and is larger than the standard badge, and has more detail work along the border. There are also Mother's pins, a house mothers pin, and an official ring. |
are badge buddies worn on clothes, or just used to keep the stuff together?

Since there has been a request for more pictures, here is Alpha Gamma Delta's crown pearl badge:

2. By 'new member', I assume you mean pledge. Our Pledge Pin is a circle with the letter P, with 3 arms with our greek letters on them. Blue and gold. Our Service Pin is the basic pin of our Fraternity. Similiar to the pledge pin, but the center has the letter "S" in a circle. Our fraternity badge is more elaborate (and costly), so not everyone gets one. Its available in 'gold kase' and real gold, with and without pearls. 3. There is no rules about where the pin is worn. Near the heart is where most people wear it. On t-shirts some wear it on the collar, some lower down. On polos most wear on the collar, some lower down. Same with dress shirts and the like. 4. Within reason, most chapters require pledges to wear the pledge pin. All part of getting them in the habit of wearing their member's pin. 5. Chapter guards and dangles may be worn with the badge. No way to do so with the service pin. Some chapters also wear something behind the service pin. 6. Never seen anyone wear a 'badge buddy'. No prohibition against them. 7. No need. We have separate rings with our coat of arms, as well as pendants. Even see some wear the key as a pendant. 8. We also have a sweetheart pin, Life Member pin, Torchbearer pin, National Board Member pin, National President's badge (badge done in platinum with diamonds). Some chapters will have a badge for their president which may have diamonds instead of pearls. We have Distinguished Service Keys, but no award pins. Hope this helps |

Keep 'em coming... this is so interesting! :)
ktsnake, I'm still trying to scare up a picture of the AEPhi badge. If all else fails, I might have to plop my own badge down on my scanner :) One more question: Do you have any other "unusual" rules for wearing your badge? For example, a Sigma Kappa once told me that when a current or former national officer dies, they wear their badges upside down for a time (Sigma Kappas, please correct me if I'm wrong about that...) and isn't there a GLO that doesn't allow you to wear ribbons with your badge? |
If a sister dies, we wear our badges with a black ribbon tied around it to cover up the "Xi."
|
We also wear our badge upside down if an active sister of our chapter dies. We wear them for a week, I am not sure if it's national policy but our chapter also wears ribbons with with our colors underneath.

- Sigma Chi Delta Describe your badge and new member pin - We have a badge, formal pin, and a new member pin...our name badge is navy blue, has our letters ingraved in it, and our first name under it. Our formal pin is gold with our letters in a row from top to bottom, with a chain and a sapphire pin attached at the end of it. Our new member pin is made up of ribbons of our three colors, navy blue, forest green, and gold. Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc) - Our pins are worn over our heart. I think that if we wear both our name badge and our gold pin, we wear the gold pin set right above the badge. Some of our girls have Panhel and Order of Omega pins, and I'm not sure how they wear those. Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times? - We require our new members to wear their pins from 8 am - 5 pm and at all sorority events, such as meetings. Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc) - As I mentioned before, our pin comes with a chain and a sapphire pin attached. Can you use a badge buddy? - Umm...never heard of this! Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring? - I've never heard of anyone doing this, but I guess it could be done if you took it to the right jeweler. What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc - We have Mothers' and Dads' Weekend pins and lavaliers |

Here's How You Post a Picture
Find your badge on a website (Burrpat.com for example). Right click the image. Select "Properties". Select "Image URL" and highlight and copy it. Paste it into your text box. Put the code at the end of it.
For example: with insert the photo. |
almostaDGonce- Thanks for the info! I was wondering how to do that!
Here are pictures of our beautiful badges, since I don't think they were posted with all the other information. Official Badge: http://www.alphaphi.org/about_alpha_phi/images/pin.jpg New Member Pin: http://www.creighton.edu/AlphaPhi/im...lpledgepin.jpg Fifty Year Pin: The first fifty-year pins, silver circles with red stones, were presented at the 42nd Convention in 1958 to several alumnae who had given significant service to the Fraternity for fifty years or more. These pins are replicas of the pins presented to the six living founders at the Fraternity’s Fiftieth Anniversary Convention in 1922: http://www.creighton.edu/AlphaPhi/im...bol50yrpin.jpg (Today, special honor badges, replicas of the lazy Phi pin, are worn by international officers, and Educational Leadership Consultants. They are also worn by presidents of collegiate chapters while they serve as president: http://www.creighton.edu/AlphaPhi/im...bollazyphi.jpg |
One of my lovely sisters gave a great discription, but here's a pic -- not the greatest, but you can see the simple beauty to the Phi Mu badge
http://exit3.i-55.com/~quartersmith/DSCN1655.JPG I'd actually wanted to post a picture of a jeweled badge, but couldn't find a good one. Here's a photo I, um, borrowed off the Masters of Design webpage. http://www.mastersofdesign.com/image...eek/greek1.jpg annnnnnnnnnd here's a very small picture of our Phi (new member) pin: http://www.nwmissouri.edu/~M500103/phipin.gif |

When I was in college, several of my sisters wore their badges as pendants on chains. There was a ring into which the badge could be inserted. I never had that as it cost more than the badge itself. When our International Founders died, we wore black ribbons behind our badges for a week.
