So I watched episode one. I feel worst for the girl at auburn, her mom was so mean :( I’m so happy she was able to COB. Show was certainly not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
|
Wait, I thought this was in real time? Auburn is still on Philanthropy Day.

Knowing Morgan is going to be featured I wonder how that episode is gonna go. |
Where did she COB?

Anyway, if they wrote "the sorority their mothers are in," a vast number of readers would be very confused about why so many girls going through recruitment have mothers who are currently collegiate members of sororities. |

Did they say which sorority Mom was in? Many of those groups have been around for so long that they have far more legacies than they could ever take. Like at least 3 times quota.

In last night's episode, it was explained that legacies used to have a leg up but, because so many legacies go through now, they'd have to fill the entire new member class with legacies, which is not feasible. They also mentioned that sororities have shied away from legacy preference in recent years. |
Well, the show was materially less fake than I expected, and I actually liked both girls and rooted for them. It's easy enough to ignore or FF through the silly interludes from that Tammy-Faye-wannabe influencer.

In that trailer, one mom said she remembered exactly who cut her (the mom) after first round. Did she ever own up? |
Quote:
No, she never owned up to the name of the chapter. They showed Auburn mom's bid day photo on screen and I recall that her AXiD bid day was in 1985. According to shadokat's thread, the AXiD chapter was chartered in 1980. |
Dang! It sure doesn't seem that long.
I need to find a way to see the show! |

I will say about bama rush, I’m more excited to see what houses the PNMs end up in rather than their outfits.
|
I was pleasantly surprised by the show and liked both girls going through. I was an active when my sister went through rush so was invested in the Ole Miss story. Luckily my sister ran home to my house. My hubby was a fraternity brother with Bill Alverson and I did let out a little scream when he was in one of the party pictures that they flashed on the screen.
|
It's been such a long time since I went through. I had a young friend go through at Ole Miss last fall. I was rooting for KKG, but she ended up pledging Tri Delta. With what I read, watch, and ponder, if I went in as prepared as I was 40+ years ago, I’m 100% dropped after day 1. They might not even let me rush! Times have even changed since my daughter went through at Alabama 19 years ago.
|
Okay I actually really liked this episode. I especially loved the girl from South Carolina, I’m so happy she was able to find her home!

Rebumping. I am enjoying this much more than should, it's a much better look at rush, emotions at all.
Also I've notice a lot of PNMs will post after rush and just combine their outfits into 1 video and show where they got a bid from. |
I didn't watch any of it, but what happened to the girls with the hicky mothers?

Were they happy with their bids?

I'll be darned, the show keeps not being garbage. The girls are sweet with great attitudes and the coaches are reining in the helicopter moms. Both of this week's Ole Miss PNMs are now sophomores in their respective houses (no spoilers!) and seem very happy.
|
I will admit I was not going to watch this show because I figured it was going to sort of show the worst of the process. Now I will profess, I didn't go through recruitment at a SEC school, but all of the PNMs they have featured have impressed me, it shows a very honest look about the ups and downs, the young women while some may have encountered cuts and sadness around those cuts, its prep for rejections that life will bring. And the students featured have really shown a lot of maturity in how they have picked themselves up and moved forward. Some of the moms in the episodes were a bit much...but I do like how the coach(es) keep the moms that need it reigned in.

Just saw an ad for “The Secrets of Sorority Rush”. Streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
I don’t have either of these streaming services but would be interested in hearing a review. |
I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I've enjoyed it. I had a feeling about the Gamma Phi result! Something early on made me think she'd go Gamma Phi Beta.

Why is it that Bama is the quintessential “most competitive” recruitment, when they allegedly matched 93% of the PNMs who attended round 1 in 2024?
From the eligibility page of the University of Alabama Panhellenic website: “For Fall 2024, 2,521 women registered for primary recruitment and 2,496 women participated in the first round of recruitment known as Open House. Of the 2,496 women in the Open House Pool, 172 women did not complete the process, of which 144 withdrew, 31 were released and 11 participated in bid matching, but did NOT maximize their options and did not receive a bid. For Fall 2024, 2,324 women received bids Open House Pool Match rate of 93%. The national average for women receiving a bid during primary recruitment is 78% of the Open House Pool.” If people regard Alabama as uber competitive because there’s emphasis on getting a bid from the “right” chapters, the numbers don’t really tell that story, because only ~6% of the PNM pool are taking themselves out of the process by either withdrawing or unsuccessfully SIPing. Unless PNMs are being heavily discouraged from SIP and just opt not to run if they don’t like their match? |

I watched the hulu documentary and it was actually pretty good too. They gave the girls vlog cameras and luckily said do not film in the houses, and it did touch on how more northern girls are going south for college and have to learn about how different southern rush is.
They followed several girls at the University of Oklahoma. Also the balloon designer is a Tri Delta!! |
