Those themes sound great!
here is what we have done recently:
Margerittaville - simple
dirty doctors and naughty nurses
Fright Nite - halloween - i went as marge simpson - it was funny
toga
dazed and confused - 70's really
hollywood nights
cowboys and indians
revenge of the nerds
anything goes but clothes - this ones funny and you will get to see an eye full
Biling Bling Fling - the most fun, a member date were you 'blinged' yourself up. we had snoop on the back of the t-shirts - it was awesome.

Big shout out to my Sigma Kappa girls and the pike boys = Love Ya!

opaldragon 05-16-2005 07:17 PM

Ok, so these are all great themes, but what about activities for the socials? All that is being listed are themes for parties where you just go drink and hang out. And from my understanding, mixers/socials _HAVE_ to be dry per Risk Management and FIPG. So does anyone want to share any activities that could be used for socials/mixers?

The Doner Party (halloween)- (ie the people who did cannoblism in the the mountains)---- Everyone dresses up like death... blood and gory and then have like finger and eyeball food you see at Halloween...

Fantasy Party- Everyone dresses up as or in their sexual fantasy and hey, some might come true ;)

Drunkie679 06-09-2005 01:04 PM

TKE Long Beach

Some of our mixers had themes fromn freaks and geeks, sin city, ghetto glam, lifestyles of the rich and the famous, G.I. Boot Camp, Color me bad, and puck rock

exlurker 06-18-2005 08:39 PM

Just FYI about party and mixer themes, here's what the report of the consultant who was hired to evaluate Greek life at California State - Chico said:

" . . . social events that have themes such as 'Dirty Doctors and Naughty Nurses.' How doew that event show the public their [fraternities' / sororities'] core values? This is the worst kind of PR you can have . . . ."

I'm not personally against fun, but on many campuses it wouldn't hurt to at least consider the PR aspect of a party theme.

whittleschmeg 06-18-2005 10:22 PM

One of themes we do that does have activity is Beer Olympics. People dress like the 80's like short shorts high socks etc. and you have to do either physical activity like pushups with beer in your mouth or beer pong flip cup quarters the winner gets a bottle. Others are

Wedding tap : You have a shot for every stage dating engage married children and the worst shot divorce Socials randomly pick partners you can get divorced and date someone else

Handcuff : Either you stayed handcuffed all night or you have to do different things to get uncuffed

Heaven and Hell : YOu start in hell and different favors shots etc are done to get you into heaven

Partner tap : Famous couples throughout media or history

Toga Tap
Anything for money
Anything but clothes: we made clothes out of colored duct tape...the guys used boxes...trash bags etc....LOTS OF FUN

80's
SalVal: Go to the Salvation Army and get the most outrageous clothes not only is it fun and funny but you help a good cause

Graffiti
CEO's Office ho's

none of these themes work unless people dress up Anything but clothes is my favorite we did it for the first time this year and people get real real creative.

As for the comment about how this makes Greeks look...we deserve to have fun we do sooo much Community Service Phylanthropy campus activites that a tap shouldn't reflect on us we deserve a break too...obviously go out and represent your organization in a safe non-sloppy drunken fun presentable way

I too was just chosen to be Social Chair of my chapter for the 2006 year. I'm really excited - these themes sound great! Anyone have any other ideas I might be able to use?

sunnydebs 12-26-2005 11:29 PM

we had a few fun themes this year....dukes of hazzard, holidays, thank god i'm not. i think other cute themes would be camo, as well as one where you dress like supermodels. :)

wildcatsKSU 01-04-2006 01:16 AM

theme idea

I am sure this has been used before, but how about "Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes" or "Corporate Lives and Trophy Wives" or "Famous Couples"

All 3 ideas are fun, and you can come up with some pretty funny costumes. The last is great for a date party

alphatauomega02 02-14-2006 01:34 AM

Some we've had...

Of course over the years we've had the $5 Formal, etc...
Here's a few others:
Tie Dye Toga: Just a different spin on a toga
Wild Wild West: Rent out some western games, like the "bullride" on ropes and poles or go all out with a mechanical bull.
Dancing with the Stars: More of a formal event maybe, but get a ballroom dancing instructor from on campus to teach a few basic moves for the first 30 minutes, pick a partner, and have fun with it.
Freaks and Geeks: Dress up as either a freak or a geek.
Sportcenter: Favorite sports players or whatever....

Jrun5187 05-09-2006 01:01 AM

Another Idea that has not been said

I am a new social chair for my fraternity and we had a Black and White Social.

Everyone had to dress in black and white only. No exceptions. If your shoes were black with a little bit of other color in it, your attire was not acceptable.

You can mix it up and do a P. Diddy All White Party if you like.

ncsupikes 09-25-2006 04:21 AM

triple crown

We planned on having a triple crown sort of thing but never got around to the last event. You can't do these on the same night.

Tour de Franzia: teams of 4 (2 guys, 2 girls) race to finish a 5 liter box of wine. Bring a camera because the faces people make after trying to chug wine get pretty hilarious.

Kegtuky Derby: Teams race to finish a pony keg.

twinkle555 11-20-2006 11:42 PM

all these socials sound amazing!! i cant wait to bring them up (im the new social chair for the 2007 year). keep em comin!!

ZetaBaby87 11-25-2006 07:28 PM

Here are some ideas for mixers that my chapter has done...

*Rockstars and Groupies - everyone dressed up then we went to club for karaoke night.
*70s mixer - rented a disco bus then we all went to a skating rink... this was my favorite one, everyone had so much fun!
*I'm Glad I'm Not... - pretty self explanatory, just dress up as something or someone ur glad ur not
*Corporate Lives and Trophy Wives
*Teachers and Students
*Secs and Execs (secretaries and Executives)
*Who wants to marry a (insert name of fraternity here)

Hope that Helps! :)

twinkle555 11-26-2006 03:02 AM

those sound awesome..i especially like the "im glad im not..." one..thank youuu!!

ZetaBaby87 11-26-2006 07:09 PM

any new ideas

I'm the rush chair for 07 and after reading through all the posts, which started in 2000, I wondered if anyone has any recent ideas, or any clever names for parties that have already been posted.

For instance, the last day of school last semester my Fraternity through the party where everyone wears white and you are handed a highlighter when you enter. We also bought 30 blacklights, and put white paper all over and handed out different markers so people could write on those. The name of the party was Blackout, and the shirts looked like the Everlast logo(boxing).

Thanks for your help.

Well, my college has like recruitment themes and I am a recent freshman in the sorority and in the college. For my Bid Day we had like a Hawian theme, so I was thinking for our new members that we could use like a New York theme. I was thinking like a club scene, and put paper up with markers and club like music.

The only thing is, what kind of food/drinks would I use. We aren't allowed to drink. So does anyone have any ideas to help me?

Thanks for the responses!

For starters, you could stop calling it "Hawaiian". :)

Mardis Gras Mixer

Can someone give me some ideas of what to do at a Mardi Gras social. We thought it would be a good idea for this time of year and are leaning toward the 'masquerade' theme. But what are some games or something we can do for the entertainment of everyone.

Thanks!

SigKapNSK 04-20-2007 01:49 PM

the best party ive been to this year was the Walk of Shame party! the sigma pi's at our university threw it and we all had to dress how we would look the morning after. it was really fun. :)

sanjiyan69 04-26-2007 06:30 PM

Anything but Clothes party. Be creative. ductapes, beer cartons, you name it!

Pike_Cardinal 05-07-2007 01:44 AM

"Anything But Clothes" are always the most fun, EVERYBODY loves them and gets really involved. Its also cool because you never know if it was a last minute costume or planned out

I don't think she is calling the "New York" Party "Hawaiian". The Hawaiian party was from HER Bid Day... she is planning a new one now! And as for refreshments for this party, I may have a suggestion. How about "Mocktails"? Like use the same Juices that you would normally use in a mixed drink, just exclude the liquor. And maybe some of that Non-Alcoholic Champaigne or whatever. Just to look like sophisticated drinks you would have in a New York bar, but not reallly be alcoholic?

eveofelrond 08-02-2007 04:39 PM

The graffiti idea is a great one. My sorority does it every semester with one of the fraternities. It's a great way to break the ice. No small talk, just "hey, can I write something on you?"

fhchick22 08-02-2007 10:49 PM

This is kinda like the "walk of shame" theme but we once had an "after sex" theme and the girls dressed in a guys button-down and boxers and the guys wore sweatpants and a beater or something. It was so much fun!

vpboomer 08-03-2007 06:30 PM

So what are some events you can do at these socials i.e. games or other activities that go along with theme

tchi252 08-06-2007 11:01 AM

We do
pirates and princess
Docks and Jocks
Shady Cops and Bikini Tops
Anything But Clothes
Anything for a buck

sweetd31 08-09-2007 09:45 AM

tchi252,
What's the docks and jocks mixer/social like.... how do people usually dress up?

macallan25 08-09-2007 10:05 AM

Like Doctors and Athletes?

Just a guess......

mckimjm 08-13-2007 11:39 AM

For Docks and jocks the girls are usually nurses and/or cheerleaders and the guys are either doctors or athletes

ce1084 11-18-2007 03:04 PM

social idea

Another good social idea is to have everyone wear their favorite band t-shirt. Its a good idea since band shirts are so in right now, and its a good conversation starter. You'll find some really original shirts, and find ppl with your same music taste.
You just gotta think of a good name for it-- groupies, roadies, something like that.... use some imagination!

I'm tired of the "ho" parties. You know, Golf Pros and Tennis Hos, CEOs and Office Hos. Aside from it being such a cliche, why would sororities want to appear slutty so often?

Perhaps they don't take themselves as seriously as others.
